Hymn 23: Great is Thy Faithfulness Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. We repeat the Apostles Creed as has been done in the western church since the first century as a confession of what we believe and as a means of remembering and transmitting essential doctrines. Although not written by the apostles, it is a summary based upon Scripture and was composed in response to heresies that arose. It is not given as a payment, but as a free will offering of a portion of our income in response to God s blessing in our lives. TIF uses the funds toward the operation of its ministry in reaching the world that has come to our doorstep. Scripture Reading 1 John 2:3 6 3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 Whoever says I know him but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. Knowing Him Yang He Hymn: Oh Great God (turn page) The Lord s Supper In the Lord s Supper, the bread represents the Body of Christ and our unity with all believers while the wine represents the blood of Christ that was shed for our salvation that we may have eternal life. The bread and wine of the Lord s Supper help us discern the spiritual blessings of redemption [being bought for the price of Jesus life] so that we are confirmed and strengthened in our faith. Only by having faith is one spiritually united to the grace of God offered. Those who do not have faith and have not received the initial sacrament of baptism should not partake of the Lord s Supper so that it is not a judgment upon them. Reflections on Urban Life, Health, and Community is the topic for today s Medical Campus Outreach lunch at 1 PM in Fellowship Hall. Dr. David Chen, a hospitalist in internal medicine and pediatrics in Delaware, will share about the experience of moving into (and out of) an inner city context from his perspective as a physician, Christian, minority person, and neighbor. An allchurch work project will be held on Saturday, February 25, 9 AM to noon. The purpose of this project will be to remove nonessential contents from 1716 and 1710 buildings. It is also an excellent way to meet your fellow church members in a different context. Light refreshments will be served. The Mason and Harrigan families as they grieve the death of Zoe Nora Mason, one of the infant twin daughters of Joel and Vanais (Harrigan) Mason. She died on Thursday, January 26. We host two free weekly English (ESL) programs, many weekly Bible studies, special fellowship groups, a Saturday fellowship dinner and study in University City, monthly Sunday potluck luncheons, monthly outings and activities, numerous special holiday dinners, an annual weekend spring retreat.
