Giving Tuesday This November 29th, our Valley will be taking part in an International Day of Giving called Giving Tuesday. Launched in 2012, Giving Tuesday (sometimes called #GivingTuesday) has gone viral as a day set aside for charitable giving. Giving Tuesday is celebrated at the beginning of the holiday season on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The date comes right after the two biggest consumer shopping days of the year: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday is designed as a day NOT to spend money on shopping but, instead, to donate money and/or volunteer to assist others by helping a worthwhile charity and what could be more worthwhile than the great work we accomplish right here in Fresno at our Childhood Language Disorders Center? All donations raised by the Fresno Valley on Giving Tuesday will benefit our local children.
From the Commander of the Council of Kadosh The month of November is very important to the members of the Scottish Rite Bodies; in that we will be going through the process of nominating and then electing new officers for the four Lodges. These officers elect will be charged with the responsibility of overseeing the business and providing the leadership for the lodges for the upcoming Masonic year. Again, I am continuing to communicate the degrees of the Council of Kadosh in this month s article. The Council of Kadosh degrees are those degrees inclusive of the Nineteenth Degree, through the Thirtieth Degree. These degrees are philosophical and chivalric. This month, I will cover the Twenty-Eighth Degree, Knight of the Sun or Prince Adept. The Ill. Albert Pike, 33º, goes to profound and expansive effort to justify one of his most profound conclusions when he states, "God, therefore, is the Masonic creed, is Infinite Truth, Infinite Beauty, Infinite Goodness. He is the Holy of Holies, as Author of the Moral law, as the Principle of Liberty, of Justice, and of Charity, Dispenser of Reward and Punishment. Such a God is not an abstract God; but an intelligent and freeperson, who has made us in His image, from Whom we receive the law that presides over our destiny, and Whose judgment we await. This Degree is a comprehensive study of all religions and the findings of history s great Philosophers. He covers the subject in infinite detail in this degree s coverage by his writings. The Ill. Henry C. Clausen tells us that, Our love for God can be made manifest in our love of Truth, Justice, and Nobility of Soul. Once you have grasped and believe this concept of faith in an All Powerful Creator, you have a shield which forever will deflect fear. Masonry inculcates Page 4
its beliefs that there is but One God, Creator and Preserver of the Universe under eternal laws; that He breathed into man the breath of life and immortality; that man can do evil or choose good and is responsible for his acts and subject to punishment for his sins; that all wrong and suffering are temporary discords of the great harmony that will ring out in final harmonic chord of truth, love, peace, and happiness. These are some of the lessons taught by the Twenty- Eighth Degree, Knight of the Sun or Prince Adept. The information was gained from and refers to Page in the Ill. Clausen s, 33º COMMENTARIES and to pages in the Ill. Pike s, 33º MORALS AND DOGMA. As greater insight and understanding of the intent and objectives of Scottish Rite Masonry is needed, I suggest that each review these teachings from time to time and refresh our dedication to the principles of our order. Bernard Hollenbeck, 33 Commander of Kadosh From the Master of Kadosh Consistory Brethren, This year is winding down for the 2016 Scottish Rite officers. The new slate of officers will be installed on December 4 th at 1:00 p.m. Let s get out and support our new officers! Now is the time for Brothers to get very INVOLVED in Fresno Scottish Rite. We need everyone to be an active member! LET S ALL PARTICIPATE! Hope to see you all at the Children s Christmas Party on December 3rd at Scottish Rite. Dale Hammel, 32 Master of Kadosh Page 5
Children s Holiday Party Santa will be gathering Holiday wishes and handing out Stockings! There will be Crafts and Snacks and plenty of Photo-opps! Join the fun at Fresno Scottish Rite Center Upstairs in the dining room Saturday December 3, 2016 from 1 to 3 pm 1455 L Street Fresno, CA Page 6
From the Board Chairman As we approach the end of the year and our Christmas party for the Children of the Language Center Clinic, I would like to thank those who have helped with our fund raising activities through the years. We are always looking for those who would like to be involved in helping in one way or the other in the center. We are looking for people who would like to be members of the Childhood Language Clinic Board. We meet once a month to review how things are going with Tom Tatum, our Language Center Director, and see what is happening in the Language Center Foundation. In the first part of the year we will have a meeting in the Language Clinic to have Tom discuss what is happening in the center and how he works with the children. He also lets us give a try at some therapies. We will also be looking at what we can add to the next year s fund raising. When you hear some of the stories of how the children have been helped, you are glad you could help. Please give it some thought. It does not take a great deal of your time and is very rewarding. This next year will be our 25th year. Our Silver Jubilee Year! Jim Wilson, 32 KCCH Chairman Childhood Language Disorders Center Page 7
