4 From the Venerable Master, Lodge of Perfection Brethren, This month brings the opportunity to invite new Master Masons to join the University of Freemasonry. 6 Fresno Scottish Rite From the Council of Kadosh, Commander Brethren, At the March Stated Meeting we were again reminded of the importance of "Remembrance and Renewal" as we reviewed the past year and look forward to next year. With the reading of departed Brethren who have passed on during the last Masonic year, we remember the sacrifices of our Lord and Savior as well as his Resurrection and the hardships of the Jewish people. I would like to thank the cast and Scottish Rite Bodies leadership who made this moving event possible. I continue to communicate the degrees of the Council of Kadosh in this month s article. The Council of Kadosh degrees are those degrees inclusive of the Nineteenth Degree, through the Thirtieth Degree. These degrees are philosophical and chivalric. This month, I will cover the Twenty-First Degree, Noachite, or Prussian Knight. The Ill. Albert Pike, 33º, suggests that, "You are especially charged in the Degree to be modest and humble, and not vain-glorious nor filled with self-conceit. Be not wiser in your own opinion than the Deity, nor find fault with His works, nor endeavor to improve upon what He has done...". The Degree as Ill. Pike writes, requires the Mason to follow what been known for years as the "Golden Rule". When I read his words I thought that they must have been written to explain the current media and political environment. I feel strongly, that if you had only time to read a small bit of historical explanation, this would be very fine use of the time. The Ill. Pike seems to be telling us that "Human Nature" has not changed very much over the last several hundreds of years. Again this month I say, it would be (continued on following page) Page 6 Fresno Scottish Rite
7 (continued from previous page) most informative for the Brethren to review this section of his book for much more information. As Masons we must always strive for the attainment of the principals that we express for example, when we recite the Lord s Prayer, Do unto others as you would have then do unto you and Forgive others. These principles are as old as civilization and a hallmark of almost all religions. Similarly, the Ill. Henry C. Clausen suggested that, "Arrogance is a crime and humility is a virtue. Modesty with our superiors is a duty, with our equals, a courtesy; and with our subordinates, nobility. If you look for the high and mighty you will find them mostly in common man. Examples of arrogance are in publicly proclaiming the errors and faults of other men, in smearing and debunking those who deserve lasting fame and admiration. "The true Freemason rejects man's arrogance, defamation and cowardice as unworthy of a loyal Knight. Ill. Clausen explains the historical relationship of the Prussian Knights in history. Our journey in self-improvement through the ideals set forth in our Scottish Rite Degrees must include those conveyed in this degree. They are stimulating and will cause serious self-reflection These are some of the lessons taught by the Twenty-First Degree, Noachite, or Prussian Knight. The information was gained from and refers to Page in the Ill. Clausen, 33º COMMENTARIES and to pages in the Ill. Pike s, 33º MORALS AND DOGMA. As greater insight and understanding of the intent and objectives of Scottish Rite Masonry is needed, I suggest that each review these teachings from time to time and refresh our dedication to the principles of our order. Bernie Hollenbeck, 33 Commander of Kadosh Page 7
8 From the Master of Kadosh, Consistory Brethren, My article last month dealt with the idea of all of us getting out, talking to, and trying to bring in new members. Well our Spring Class now has three potential new members. We need a stronger effort to attract new candidates. We probably won't have a class for just three candidates. Please contact the eligible members of your Blue Lodge and give them a petition for Scottish Rite. We need more participation from all of our membership in Scottish Rite activities. Whether it is attending our stated meetings, coming to special nights like our "Remembrance and Renewal" or helping with special activities such as the "Fishing Derby" or "Dinner Auction." We need everyone s help and participation. So, let s pick ourselves up, wipe the dust off, and start this April 1st with a real Scottish Rite Effort. I think you will be pleased with the results of your efforts. Dale Hammel, 32 Master of Kadosh Friends of the Center are hosting the 6th Annual Trap Shoot Saturday April 16, 2016 Kingsburg Gun Club Please contact the Scottish Rite Office (559) for more details All proceeds for this event benefit the Children s Language Clinic Rite Care

10 Greetings Brethren, Our Clinic Board meeting was held on March 22, 2016 at Scottish Rite Center. Tom Tatum the Clinic director gave his report for February's activities at the clinic. February was a four-week month so things were consistent, ten children were evaluated, and four were discharged. There are 20 children on the waiting list making it very difficult and a long wait. Young children could get in sooner, but would have to miss school. The fund raising events were discussed: 1. The Fishing Derby is June 25 at Shaver Lake. The entry fee is $40.00 for Adults and $20.00 for Kids. Lunch is included. Entry forms will be in the bulletin and in stores. 2. The Dinner Auction is August 6 at Sunnyside Country Club. The price of the dinner is $60.00 for the dinner including the wine tasting. Silent auction items and live auction items are being gathered. If anyone has items for the auction please contact Vince Carter or the office. The Dessert Auction will be featured again this year so please start thinking about what you would like to bring this year. The Board is looking for people who would like to help with the Auction or the Derby. Please let me know if you would like to help; telephone (559) It s easy and it is fun. Fraternally Jim Wilson II, 32 KCCH Clinic Board Chairman
