2 From Our Pastor... Celebrate Your Catholic Faith and Traditions! Next Sunday, June 18, to highlight our feast of Corpus Christi (Body and Blood of Christ) I am encouraging you to join us for our annual Eucharistic Procession. In light of our 150th Anniversary we want this procession to be extra special so here are a few highlights: I know it will also be Father s Day but I hope you carve out an hour (11:45-12:45) to join us for a very special procession this year down Lincoln Avenue in O Fallon, for a one-mile prayerful walk to our old church (Third and Oak Streets in O'Fallon) for Benediction. For those not able to do the walk, you can meet us there for the prayer. Why this tradition? Begun in the 13th Century, as we solemnly process the Eucharist from inside to outside, it helps us move from an insider mentality to an awareness that Christ is for everyone. The procession represents a public blessing for our city. The procession speaks of the possibility of change, of transformation in Christ, for ourselves, our Church, our world. The Eucharistic procession helps us recognize who we are as a Catholic community, and points us toward solidarity with others: Those who recognize Jesus in the sacred Host, recognize him in their suffering brother or sister. Walking with Jesus in this procession, we can see ourselves as members of his Body, but we can also look at the world through the loving eyes of Jesus Christ. This is a feast of who we ARE. The procession will immediately follow the 10:30 Mass so you can either come to that Mass or meet us in front of the church at 11:45. Thanks for loving the traditions of our Catholic Faith and joining in this special procession for our 150th anniversary! The Peace of the Holy Spirit be with you! Fr. Voca on Corner Did you know... that our sister parish, Our Lord of Esquipulas in Guastatoya, Guatemala is almost perfectly due south of us? At about 1650 miles away, it is also about the same distance from us as Los Angeles (1605 miles) and is closer that San Francisco (1760 miles). Men who enter a seminary are ordinary individuals who are discerning God s will for them in a Christ-centered way. There are four main areas of formation that seminarians focus on to become more balanced young men in an effort to be more like Jesus, the High Priest: Apostolic, Spiritual, Intellectual, and Character. There are many questions one might ask about seminarians as to what is their daily schedule. Like ordinary men, seminarians work hard, but also know how to have fun. They have hopes and fears; however, on their journey they seek out what will bring them the most authentic happiness and joy in life. They have the witness and the support of their brother seminarians to help them along the way. They strive to become centered on Christ and achieve balance in all areas of life. Tower Topics, Conception Seminary, Spring Edition, 2016 Pgs Webinars by Our Sunday Visitor: THE EVER-PRESENT GOD: Where Does the Bible Come From? June 14 from 11 a.m. 12 (Eastern) Presented by Fr. Pacwa, internationally acclaimed biblical scholar, TV personality and author, as he explains the origin of the texts comprising the Holy Bible, detailing the historical development of the canon of Scripture and providing valuable information about the seven deuterocanonical books known to Protestants as the Apocrypha. By putting the Bible in its proper historical context, Fr. Pacwa expertly guides the listener into a deeper understanding of the factors motivating the Church s decision on which books it considered Divinely inspired. THINGS TO THINK ABOUT WHEN PLANNING A CATHOLIC FUNERAL June 17 from 10:30 11 a.m. (Eastern Time) Presented by Michael Heinlein Perhaps we have not paid much attention to the reality that we will likely have to plan a loved one s funeral someday. The rites of the Catholic funeral liturgy are important to be familiar with, especially because they express our beliefs about death and eternal life, our hope of the resurrection of the body our charity for the deceased, especially in our prayers for him or her, and much more. Learn more about these rites and get prepared for the decisions that will need to be made when planning a Catholic funeral. His story is a common one for people fleeing violence.
