2 Guest Preachers Dr. Harold T. Bryson will be filling our pulpit on April 30 and the last three Sundays in May. Dr. Bryson has been the Visiting Senior Professor of Religion at Carson-Newman University since Prior to that, he served as Interim Pastor of 41 churches from 1976 until the present. Dr. Bryson has a Doctor of Theology degree, a Master of Theology degree, and a Bachelor of Divinity Degree with Greek and Hebrew, all from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mississippi College and has done additional study at Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Dr. Bryson is married to Jane Lockett Bryson, is the father of two daughters and two sons, and has three grandsons and two granddaughters. He is a member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden in Knoxville, Tennessee. Dr. Bryson is a noted lecturer and author and enjoys traveling and fishing. We look forward to the messages that he will bring us in April and May. Dr. Timothy D. Holder will be preaching on May 7. He is a Professor of History at Walters State, the author of books on US Presidents and military-science fiction, and a part time preacher. He has preached to congregations in four denominations. His wife, Dr. Angela Holder, is a Professor of Music at Carson-Newman. The Senior Adult Ministry Sponsors a Presentation by Gene & Pat Wilder on Their Travels to Singapore, Bali, New Zealand, and Australia Thursday, April 27, 1:30 p.m. Light Refreshments Will Be Served For years, Gene and Pat Wilder dreamed of taking their "Trip of a Lifetime," an extended trip to Australia. As they edged closer to their retirement, they began saving their nickels and pennies to make it happen. Their dream became a reality in the fall of 2016, as they left Jefferson City on October 20 and set out for an adventure that didn't bring them home until December 6. Their adventure took them to Singapore, Bali, Australia and New Zealand. As they trekked across the South Pacific they saw beautiful scenery, spent an unforgettable night battling 30 foot waves on the Tasman Sea, and made several new friends among the locals. They even had a run in with the Australian police. On Thursday, April 27, at 1:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, they look forward to sharing their pictures and stories with you. Children s Choir Musical Life Is Good! Sunday, April 30, 6 p.m. Church Sanctuary Even when bad things happen, Life is always Good when you have God by your side! This is a musical presented by the Young Musicians choir, grades 1-6. A cookie reception will follow on the front porch. (dress rehearsal on Saturday morning, April 29, from 10:00-12:00 in the sanctuary) Book Give-Away The books that have been in the pastor s study are available for you to look through. If you see books that you would like to keep, please do so. The books are located on tables outside the choir room.

Church Family, Thank you so much for the many expressions of sympathy for the recent passing of our beloved father, grandfather and father-in-law Alvin Trentham. Your prayers, calls, cards, visits and food helped us through this very tough time. It means so much to be part of such a caring group of people. Special thanks to Becky Stout, Bill Rosser and our deacon Jim Wilson for visiting with us in the hospital during his illness. In Christian love, Gary and Susie Trentham Family Congratulations! To Sarah & Trey Coyle on the birth of Adeline Grace on April 13. Adeline weighed 8 lbs. 7 oz. and is 20 1/2 inches. Proud grandparents are Bari & Rob Wilson, Debbie Coyle, and Fred Coyle. Proud great-grandparents are Dorothy Maddox, Martha Wilson, and Bruce Coyle. Christian Sympathy To Lu Hinchey and family in the death of her uncle, John Burchfield. Appalachian Outreach Work Week, June Please contact Ken Morton at or at kpmorton@bellsouth.net by May 14 if you would be interested in ministering during Appalachian Outreach Work Week, June We need to know your interest and skills by May 14 so Appalachian Outreach can match us to the right project for us, but we can still accept some volunteers right up to the work week. If you can only work one day, you can still help. Please respond as soon as possible if you even think you might be interested or if you have questions. Typical jobs include bath/kitchen repair, replacing floors or walls, painting, flooring, plumbing, cleaning, exterior maintenance, and yard work. We also need some listening ear people to just sit and visit with residents because they sometimes have relational, emotional, or spiritual needs that transcend the condition of their dwellings. Finally, help is needed with meal preparation for the workers: breakfast Monday through Friday and dinner Monday through Thursday. There will be a covered dish dinner on that Wednesday. Contact Betty Aldredge at to help with the meals.

6 Appalachian Outreach Summer Missionary Care Packages The Appalachian Outreach student summer missionaries serve in the Jefferson City area for ten weeks during the summer. They work long hours and receive very little compensation for their efforts. They recognize it as a calling and do so without hesitation. In addition to the living stipend they receive, we would like to provide them with a care package. This is our way of saying Thank You. Based on conversations with former summer missionaries, the following listed items are needed. Thank you for helping us make these young adults feel special. AO is asking that you collect these items and they will assemble the baskets. Please pray for endurance, compassion and for a focus on the Lord as they live out Matthew 25: Items need to be placed in the box at the elevator entrance by May 7. snack items laundry detergent sun screen bottled water bug spray body wash gift cards Reaching Out (Jesus) often comes across as anti-poor, anti-environment, anti-gay, anti-intellectual, anti-immigrant, and anti-science.
