BOX CELANESE ROAD ROCK HILL, SC Dear Church Family, Friends, we have walked that long journey within the liturgical year from Ash Wednesday through Lent, Holy Week and its daily events and come out on the other side of Easter, celebrating Jesus death and resurrection. We have heard again the stories of Jesus sightings to the disciples and last week we were reminded of Pentecost and the Birthday of the Church as the Holy Spirit was unleashed throughout the world. And perhaps we find ourselves asking the questions, Now What? and What s Happening Next? The season in the church that follows Pentecost is known as Ordinary Time. Interesting title for a church season, don t you think? There are no high and holy days in Ordinary time which I find somewhat puzzling. What are we to do during this time in the church year? Vacations and getting out of town, a slower pace for our days, schools are mostly vacant, many activities have dropped away for the summer so what is it we are to focus upon? I d like to suggest we focus on Jesus, no surprise coming from a minister, right? I ve not gone to meddling but rather suggesting that some of your ordinary time this summer might be spent upon claiming the identity of Jesus. We do think of Jesus as an exceptional, unusual person who lived long ago and whose life and words continue to inspire us. In the words of Henri Nouwen, we also might tend to avoid the realization that Jesus wants us to be like him! In many ways Jesus said that he came to reveal himself to us as the Beloved Child of God. At every step and crossroad he came and comes to remind us that we too are God s beloved children, loved with the same unconditional divine love. In 1 John 3:1 we are reminded to see what great love the Father has for us by calling us God s children. This is the greatest challenge of our spiritual lives: to claim the identity as God s children. Perhaps that is what we need to consider in this ordinary time: a not so ordinary truth; that we all are God s beloved children. Blessings and peace, DC Horne SESSIONAL INFORMATION Communion will be served on Sunday, June 3. The Session will meet on Monday, June 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Tom Worthy Classroom. Friends, we are shooting to have a called congregational meeting for Sunday, June 10, 2018 to approve the slate for persons to serve on the pastoral search committee. We need your suggestions for persons to serve.

2 Forms are located on the table in front of the pulpit and on the table in the Narthex. Additionally, a letter was mailed to each household. Please save the date of August 19, 2018 for a churchwide lunch and a way forward meeting with presbytery leadership. Prospect Church. Our new boy scout troop has started and moved back into the scout hut (boys 6th- 12th grade). The cub scouts, k-5th grades, will be meeting on a limited schedule over the summer. Any boys k-12th grade interested in joining our scouting program please contact Josh Bell

3 PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN NEWS Beulah Munn ( ) is updating the Presbyterian Women handbook. If you have changed your telephone number, address or know of any updates that need to be made please contact her or the church office. Beulah asks that CT members review their duties for any changes or additions so they also can be updated in the handbook. The Night Circle will meet on Monday, June 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the home of Barbara Lewis, 1239 Maddy Lane, Rock Hill, SC Martha Hinson will be the worship leader for the lesson. Light refreshments will be served. Come and enjoy the fellowship and bible study together. The Morning Circle will meet in the Parlor on Tuesday, June 12 at 10:00 a.m. Jan Goodman will have the devotion and Carolyn Garland will be the worship leader for the lesson. Everyone is invited to go out to lunch after the meeting. ladies attended this event. We were blessed by the talk given by his eldest daughter, Gigi Graham. Everyone enjoyed the luncheon and tour. A big thank you to everyone who helped remove and replace the banners in the sanctuary. Please consider placing flowers in the church in honor or memory of someone on the Sunday of your choice. The calendar is placed on the bulletin board in the hallway. If you prefer, you may make a contribution to the flower fund which will be used to purchase artificial flowers for arrangements. The week you are scheduled you will receive a reminder in the mail. Let s all help make our sanctuary beautiful on Sunday. The offering will be going to Safe Passage in Lancaster, York and Chester Counties in S.C. and Thornwell Home for children in South Carolina. Collection will be at both church doors following the worship service. Gifts of any amount will be appreciated. Joint Circle was held Sunday, May 20 at the church fellowship hall. There were 14 in attendance. $ was collected for the birthday offering. For our Spring Gathering we traveled to the Billy Graham Library for the annual tea. 16 MOC NEWS The MOC Breakfast is Sunday, June 17 at 8:45 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. All men are invited to attend. Cooks are: Josh Bell, Phillip Griffith, Grayson Goodman. The MOC will have a BBQ on Saturday, June 23 from 11-2 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall. We will be selling fresh smoked pork bbq, 1 lb. container $10, plate with ½ lb. bbq, beans, slaw and bread $8, sandwiches $4.50 each. All proceeds are used to
