Isaiah 41:10 Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. Dear Friends, In 1896 Martin Dalton was sentenced to life in prison for murder. After serving 34 years he was paroled. Dalton was stunned and frightened by the changes that had occurred in the world during his incarceration; so much so, he persuaded the state to revoke his parole. He died 30 years later, still in prison. Humans often react to change similarly. We are overwhelmed by it. Even by the possibility of it. Big or small, change threatens our balance, comfort and security. We too, have handy walls to hide behind. We cope by becoming self-appointed guardians of what is -- clinging furiously to old ways, even when trying something new is what we really want. Some deal with the anxiety by burying ourselves in work or sedating ourselves with food, drugs or drink. Others retreat into a well of bitterness, working to lure others into their web of negativity. Misery does loves company after all. Whatever way we choose to express it, the source is always the same: Fear. When you find yourself feeling threatened by the possibility of change, remember who you are and to Whom you belong. Ours is a God who never changes. When we find our security in Him instead of what is comfortable and familiar around us, no change however big or threatening will harm us. The God who lives within and walks beside us will work with and through us, so we may find His will and bring His goodness into each situation. Blessings,

BOOKS FOR BRADY A Huge Success! Trinity s Third Annual Books for Brady Campaign was a huge success. This initiative provided a new book for Christmas for each child at Brady. January 18, 2011 Worship Opportunities 8:30 am & 10:45 am Solid Grounds 9:00 am Sunday School 9:30 am January 23 Isaiah 9:1-4 Psalm 27:1, 4-9 I Corinthians 1:10-18 Matthew 4:12-23 January 30 Micah 6:1-8 Psalm 15 I Corinthians 1:18 2:5 Matthew 5:1-12 February 6 Isaiah 58:1-9a Psalm 112:1-10 I Corinthians 2:1-12 Matthew 5:13-20 We provided over 500 books, exceeding our goal of 350 books! Your contributions of new children s books or funds for the purchase of books made this possible. Each child chose a book from those we delivered with the help of the teachers and reading coaches. The extra books will be used by the reading coaches throughout the school year as resource materials and incentives for the students. THANK YOU to all who contributed and made this project such a success. This is very beneficial to the students and is greatly appreciated by the teachers and staff at Brady. The Crossroads Class ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Another year and another Annual Ham Smoke Fundraiser for the youth group has come and gone. I want to say thank you to the Trinity Holy Smokers for once again blessing the youth with their hard work and time given to help us have another successful year!! Special thanks to: Alan Rail, Andrew Crone, Bill Craig, Blake Peters, Charles Crone, David Gee, Eddy Peters, George Gann, Gordon Kumpuris, Jay Bolling, Jeff Barber, John Hoffman, John Bassett, Jon Tyler, Laurie Barber, Lyle Jackson, Macon Speed, Mark Murphy, Mark Speed, Mike McWilliams, Nick Barsotti, Patti Martin, Paul Faubel, Randy Stocks, Steve Bonds, Steve Faubel (the main ringleader!..extra thanks there!), Tandy Miller, and Lauren Miller. Also, a thank you to Wal-Mart on Cantrell, Kroger on Markham, and Ray Hudson with River Valley Marina! To all listed, thank you for working so hard to make this the success it was! This project is literally months in the making and on the actual ham smoke weekend, some men come help work for a couple hours and some work over 24 hours straight it s an amazing project to be a part of! Also, a HUGE thank you to YOU!! Our church family and friends, because of your support the youth were able to raise $7,000 that will go towards trips, retreats, and missions throughout the year. I can t stress enough our appreciation, as this fundraiser helps our youth raise funds, some who otherwise would have a hard time affording some of the things we do and it helps us fund some great projects. So, again, THANK YOU, for another successful year of ham smoke fundraising! Sincerely, Jay and your Trinity Youth Group!

HEARTS FOR CINCINNATI The Boanerges/Earthen Vessel Sunday School Class will be selling Valentines in the hallway outside the church office on February 6 and 13th. The proceeds will benefit the victims of the tornado in Cincinnati, AR. Remember your family members, Sunday School teachers, and pastors this Valentines Day! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gals, A NOTE OF APPRECIATION TO THE FLOWER MINISTRY TEAM I appreciate ever more now that ever before the effort you all put into arranging and delivering the flowers to those of us who have had a set back in our lives. Thanks a lot, I love you all, Nell Hurley Methodism 101 A new Methodism 101 class is starting on February 13 th through March 6 th, Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30. This class is for people who want to learn more about United Methodist doctrine and polity and those who feel the need for a refresher course. Join Mike McWilliams in the chapel for four weeks and learn about our church, globally and locally. We strongly urge our new members to take this informative class and learn more about our denomination. Taylor Building Heating Unit As most of you know the heater for the Taylor Building is out. This unit was installed by our previous heat and air contractor and has not performed as intended. Our current heat and air contractor, Middleton, has spent some time investigating the reason this unit only lasted 5 years and has tried to get the repair/replacement covered under warranty. Unfortunately, the unit is out of warranty. The good news is that these units are not terribly expensive. The bad news is that the replacement parts or unit will have to be built prior to installation. The current estimate for repair or replacement is four weeks. The church staff will continue to make arrangements for alternative meeting places for all classes that meet in the Taylor Building. We are sorry for this inconvenience. Please see George Gann or Jim Brumback for questions or concerns. One of the many ways we celebrate the Christmas season at Trinity is with the appearance of our "live" Holy family within our Nativity settings. Viewing Baby Jesus in the arms of His mother Mary as she sits next to Joseph brings the Christmas Bible story alive for our little children. Each year, the Trinity staff along with our wonderful Trinity Preschool present "Journey to Bethlehem" to the children of the Preschool and their invited grandparents and other special guests. Members of our staff; Hostess Dr. Robin, Shepherds Judy, Tammy, and Paul; Angel Laura; and Wise Men Candace, Jay, and David, all join together to tell their part of the Christmas story. This year, the Holy Family was portrayed by Justin and Kara Darling with their daughter Bowen as Baby Jesus. At our traditional Christmas Eve service, Shepherd Paul told the story of the birth of the Baby Jesus to the children during Children's Moments. At this service, the Holy Family was portrayed by Steve and Jessica Beckett with their son Bryce as Baby Jesus. Colin Norman, son of John and Laurie Norman, portrayed the angel Gabriel, the angel who brought the Good News of the baby's birth to Mary and Joseph. Mr. Paul TUESDAY BIBLE STUDY TO BEGIN The Tuesday Morning Bible Study will begin the spring study at 9:00 am, Tuesday, January 25. We will read Strong Was Her Faith: Women of the New Testament by Dr. J. Ellsworth Kalas. Books will be available at the first meeting for a cost of approximately $ Everyone is welcome to join the group.

A Message from Jacquie Winters As I prepare to move to Chattanooga next month and leave a ministry that has meant so much to me, I wanted to share something that has been in my heart for awhile... A few weeks after I had officially joined Trinity United Methodist, more than 15 years ago, I was walking to my car, softly singing to myself one of the beautiful hymns of the morning s worship. Suzie Warren was walking behind me, overheard my song, and suggested that I I attend the choir practice that following Wednesday evening. I had experience as a teenager singing in my church s choir, but it had been many years ago. I did attend the practice that evening, and I ve been singing with the choir ever since. So, you see, I had never really known Trinity without singing in the choir. Last year, for family reasons, I decided to take a year off from choir, sit with my family and experience the choir and worship from the congregation s perspective. I realized during that year that my honoring of God in my life and all He s done for me, needs to include using the gift He gave me for singing and for leading the congregation from the choir loft. I ve been on a personal journey to discover my gifts and to set a purposeful plan for this last third of my like to include using them as I believe God intended them to be used. When I was in the congregation, enjoying the beautiful music and singing along, it felt very personal for me. It was as if I was somehow keeping something for myself that was really meant to be shared joyfully with the world around me, with fellow Christians and those seeking Christ. So after my year off, I was very happy to be back with my choir family, back to the routine of our Wednesday evenings, and back to spreading God s love and joy through our music. If you ve ever considered singing with the choir, I would encourage you to give some prayerful thought to whether that little voice nudging you might be God s gentle push, His loving hand reaching out and asking you to step forward and help us lead the worship service. Imagine His joy when you accept that invitation. Jacquie Winters SIGN UP FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE A WEDNESDAY FAMILY NIGHT DINNER We need your help. Lay Chaplain Program Trinity has a strong Chaplain Program consisting of lay members who visit our homebound, nursing home patients and some hospital visits. As Candace makes the transition from her role in pastoral care at Trinity, Mitch LaGrone has agreed to step in and make sure that the program is effectively administered after her departure. This is a vital ministry at Trinity and we would like to urge people who feel called to help in this program to contact Mitch at for more information. Chaplains are the visible face of the church to people who are hurting, lonely or unable to come to church. A few hours per month out of your time can make the world of difference to those who feel cut off from the church.

Miracle Team News The Miracle Team is happy to welcome four new members: Kelly Greenlee, Lyle Jackson, Adam Kirby, and Larry Winters. Unfortunately for us, Larry will be moving out of state in February! Brady Elementary Bulldogs donated $115 collected through Casual Friday collections. The Miracle Team matched that with $115, for a total contribution of $230 to Rice Depot. The Christmas luncheon held in Martin Hall for Methodist Family Health Arkansas CARES families was a big success. Food was great. Children had photos taken with Santa. We had live music and children received gift bags and hats and mittens donated by Trinity Nursery School. Brady elementary students made placemats and other decorations. All seemed to enjoy themselves. Thanks to everyone for making this another successful, fun event. One mother said with tears, this is the most fun I ve seen my children have. Due to generosity of our Trinity Family, Salvation Army efforts were well served in December. We again staffed the Angel Tree Park Plaza location, worked in the Warehouse, and donated $1,291 cash to Salvation Army thanks to December Communion Rail Offering, an ear-marked donation, and collections by the elementary youth. Thanks again to everyone! Major Taylor will be coming to Trinity in the Spring. Details to follow. Trinity will continue providing Our House dinner on second Sunday nights. A sign-up sheet is available in the Narthex. Don t miss this fun service opportunity. Trinity nurses will begin volunteering at Oak Forest Health Clinic in If you or a nurse friend is interested, contact Cindy Crone at or Cynthia.Crone@Arkansas.gov. We will have a rotation very similar to Our House service. It s time to begin collecting treasures for Trinity s Annual Rummage Sale on March 26th. This is how we fund much of our annual service. The Scout Room under Martin Hall will be available beginning February 15 for storage of clean and gently used items in working order. Anyone interested in helping should contact Cindy Crone. There are diverse needs that include planning, trucks, items pick-up, pricing and set up, day-of-sale work. We are exploring needs in Cincinnati following the New Year s Eve tornado there. February s Communion Rail offering will go to assist. We will inform you as plans develop. Continued service at Lonoke s St. James UMC will occur in the spring. Stay tuned! It s already time to think about our Lenten Offering for Please nominate local organizations that you believe to be in need of funding and/or service support. Nomination forms are available at the Welcome Center, in the church office or by contacting Cindy Cynthia.Crone@arkansas.gov. Nominations need to be received by February 1. Advent wreaths, Advent calendars, and Nativities all set the atmosphere for each of our rotational rooms. An ever-growing large Nativity featuring our newly handcrafted stable structure and Bible scripture verses and lessons ranging from Christmas storytelling to Nativity printmaking were all part of the rotation. This rotation, beginning with an Advent opening ceremony on November 21st, revolved around the four main themes of the season~hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. We also celebrated the Christ candle and Epiphany. Concluding this rotation on January 9th, we even read a story about a fourth Wise Man who desired to bring a blue sapphire, a red ruby, and a smooth, white pearl to the newborn baby Jesus. Nativity Activity pads greeted the children each Sunday as they arrived and a set of six collectible ornaments, each with a Christmas symbolic theme, were presented to all citizens. Twentysix children received awards for their attendance during this rotation: 1st grade~hope Burnett, Joe Carter, Audrey Hampson, Trey Lazzari, and Jake Muse; 2nd grade~carter Collins, Arden Elliott, and Kirby Keel; 3rd grade~callie Epps, Elizabeth Hofman, Emma Jackson, Sean Oury, and Simon Trussell; 4th grade~haley Burnett, Anna Hampson, Anna Harris, Hunter Hopkins, Sidney Hyatt, Ty Lazzari, Benjamin Trussell, and Ashlyn Tunnell; and 5th grade~henry Dudley, Grant Elliott, Maddie Frazier, Julia Greer, and Ryan Norman. We want to thank our wonderful leaders who see the important ministry of our Village: Tina Collins, Alecia Castleberry, Dana Harris, Wes and Suzanne Trussell, Vada Berger and Robert Dudley, Astrid Elliott, Alison Chambers, Beth and Mike Tunnell, Laurie Norman, Mimi Hyatt, Carson and Kathy Hampson, and Pam and Ben Gilbert. In the local church budget we see an amazing diversity of destinations for our gifts, from the most mundane concerns of plant maintenance to the proclamation of the Gospel in our community and around the world. Through the process of planning and projecting, we do our best to see that we underwrite our ministries in order that our highest priorities may be realized in action. We are also reminded that all we are, and whatever we do together, for better or worse, is a powerful example for those around us. We want to insure that what we model as a community validates and strengthens the message we proclaim.
