Dear Friends, Had a great time at the beach. We left just before Little Debby hit the Gulf. (As I write this column, prayers for those whose lives have been disrupted.) We spent time on the beach each day with four little boys, quite a feat. Seemed like it took an hour to apply sunscreen to everyone. Two nights we treated ourselves to a babysitter, but mostly it was just the six of us, if I may use the phrase just the six of us! The amount of sand we tracked in our beach loft was impressive and taxed my nerves. Two of our boys liked the ocean waves, which were quite rough each day, and two were wary, preferring the task of building sand creations. In the photo to the right, I got all the boys to show off their new Crocs shoes at the Pier Park shopping and entertainment boardwalk. We let each boy buy a new pair, beacuse it d been a year. Time is not standing still. It s been exactly one year since I came to Trinity. And, I m about to have a birthday, again. Thank you for embracing me and my family this year, for letting me be your pastor, for trusting me at times this year to approach ministry in a new way, and as a group of Christians looking to the future rather than the past. Yes, we have a wonderful past, but I believe Trinity is headed toward a robust, exciting phase of ministry in Little Rock s Midtown. And that s because of your commitment and love of Christ and his Church and a willingness to reach out to nominally and non-religious persons. Because time passes so quickly, please remember to worship with us online while you are away at tumclr.org (hit the live streaming tab) at our homepage. I worshipped with Trinity both Sundays I was gone and was proud of our ability to offer this new, unique ministry, and the team who makes it possible. The second reminder is to keep up your pledge and giving. Summer is the weakest giving time for any church because everyone is on vacation and busy. Give ahead to Trinity by sending a check or with the rest of your online banking commitments. In both these ways, you can still share your prayers, presence, and gifts even while you are having a great summer! And I know you won t want to miss two of the coming sermon series titled, Jesus on Broadway, followed by When Christians Tackle Fishing. Peace, Rev. Betsy (a.k.a. a tired beach momma!)
2 Church Administrator Leaving Position Laura Hofman, a devoted member of Trinity and our church administrator, was offered an opportunity in her field that she could not resist. Sadly, Laura has given her notice and will be leaving us August 1. Laura has been extremely helpful in my first year at Trinity. June 27, 2012 Worship Opportunities 9:00 am & 11:00 am Solid Grounds 9:00 am Martin Fellowship Hall Trinity Connect Café 10:15 am Trinity Foyer Sunday School 10:00 am Upcoming Sermon Series Jesus on Broadway July 15 -July 29 When Christians Tackle Fishing August 5 August 26 As a lay person and as staff, Laura has assisted with countless ministries from altar guild, memorials, worship, acolytes, assisting the pastor and other staff, coordinating volunteers, relating to Finance and Trustees teams, chaplains and pastoral care, flower ministry, bookkeeping, scheduling and calendars, building use and upkeep. Indeed, there is no way to replace Laura, and thankfully, she will still call Trinity her home church! We will keep the congregation updated on developments in this area of ministry as Staff Parish Relations Team works to find someone who will fit Trinity's needs and future in these areas. And, we will find a Sunday when we can "celebrate" Promotion Day in our Sunday morning Christian education program and Father s Day were celebrated with a Popsicles for Pops event. Our friends from Frosty Treats served up popsicles and ice cream to help with our special day. What a cool way to begin a hot summertime morning! Laura's contributions as a staff person, even while knowing she will be an active member and we won't have to say goodbye! Rev. Betsy The Trinity Nursery is available during both worship services for children from birth to first grade. We would be glad to answer any questions you might have or hear any suggestions you want to offer. We have recently added rocking chairs in the foyer to be used by mothers who need to take their babies out of the sanctuary. Parking lot greeters are needed. We want to exhibit radical hospitality even before people enter our building. judy@tumclr.org and volunteer for one Sunday each month. Thanks to everyone who participated in the Brady Spirit Night at Chick-Fil-A. It has taken some time but we finally learned that over $160 was raised for the Brady PTA that night. That is a great deal of money for our Partner in Education. The parents, staff and children appreciate those Trinity folks who ate chicken that night! Information to come about TABB, Trinity Assists Brady Bulldogs! In the next newsletter supply lists and uniform needs for Brady elementary will be available. Coupon Exchange In an effort to help out our young families, we are beginning a coupon exchange. If you see diaper or baby wipe coupons, and you have no use for them please cut them out and bring them to the office. Employment Support Group will meet at The House in Hillcrest on North Palm beginning July 15, 5:30-7 p.m.

4 Note from Rev. Betsy: If you want the church to register you, please check here and return your check for Super Early Bird ($175) by July 5 or Early Bird ($195) by Sept. 1. Hotel accommodations are separate, but we can reserve rooms and pay later. Lunch meals included. You will not receive the Super Early Bird price if we don't receive your check and form by July 5. If you can, please register online and pay there. Go to li.cor.org, and complete the information under Standard (type) registration. We have provided the additional group information you will need to register online. I would appreciate it if you would attend workshops pertinent to your area(s) of ministry. We will share all information after we return. If you need a scholarship, you should contact Judy at judy@tumclr.org immediately so that the church can be good stewards with our resources and get the best price. We will need your form back to Judy in the office asap and will then make a payment on your behalf. Questions: Rev. 5 Interactive games, story time and feature-length movies, painting, crafts, and tie-dying t-shirts have all been some of the curriculum during our Tuesday and Thursday PlayDate activities! Beth Finney and Maggie Moore have created great fun experiences for children ages 2-8 throughout the month of June in Martin Hall. On many occasions, we have even had visits from Beth s rescue dog, Darcy, who joined in as a willing participant in the games. This week concludes our month-long event with a Thursday afternoon filled with outdoor water fun including a water slip-and-slide in the courtyard! Plans are for more PlayDates throughout the year when 4 day weekends occur and during seasonal breaks at the schoolhouse! OPERATION OVERBOARD VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Are you ready to dive-in for some great fun? Operation Overboard: Dare to Go Deep with God!, Trinity s 2012 VBS, is preparing to launch our deep-sea submarines and travel underwater for some great adventures and experience the Good News from Jesus. Pull on your wet suits and slip on your goggles and flippers and join us Monday, July 16 th -Friday, July 20 th from 8:30 to 11:30 am each morning. We want YOU and your friends to be part of our dive team! Register on line at tumclr.org or grab a seashell and give us a call at Ocho, the Octopus A WORD FROM YOUR CHURCH TREASURER So it s summertime! Time to head to the beach, or the mountains, or the lake, or maybe you are having a stay-cation where you are just staying home this summer! Regardless of what your summer plans are, does your mortgage company or utility company say hey, don t worry about paying us this month, we know you are out of town; no big deal, just pay when you get back. No, at least MY mortgage company or utility company doesn t tell me that, and I bet yours doesn t either. We all have bills to pay whether we are home or away. Well, I know you ll be surprised to hear this, but the Church has the same bills you do. We have a mortgage, utilities, payroll and much more! If you are away from Church some these summer months, we hope you ll remember to keep up with your Church giving. So far this summer we are in good financial shape, because you are continuing with your tithes and offerings, even though you may be out of town. I m here to tell you to keep up the good work! Your church staff, finance committee, and others very much appreciate your help and support. I hope you are having a great summer wherever you are!
