What a great blessing our mothers have been and con nue to be for us; even those who have died con nue to pray for us from their place in heaven. There really are no words that adequately describe all that our moms represent for us: steadiness, compassion, pa ence, longsuffering and self-sacrificing love. It is no accident that we Chris ans have long called the Church our Holy Mother, with Mary as the supreme example of what that love and devo on looks like. This past Friday, our grade school children in the day school held a May Crowning. At that me, we symbolically crowned our statue of Mary and serenaded her with some of our favorite Marian hymns. Praying the rosary is an especially worthy pursuit during this month of May, and perhaps the glorious mysteries which focus both on Jesus' mighty saving deeds and Mary's holy honor are most appropriate. My own mom had a deep devo on to Mary and taught me some of my favorite prayers to Mary. One prayer that many in our parish pray at night before turning off the lights and slipping off into res ul sleep is the Salve Regina. This is s ll a great prayer for moms to teach their children. Salve Regina Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us; and a er this our exile, show us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. God s blessings to you and your family!

The ins tute is named in honor of Paul VI who led the church in the challenging task of implemen ng the renewal of the Second Va can Council and of preserving the faith handed down from the Apostles. OFFER A PRAYER SHAWL! Prayer Shawls are wraps that have been kni ed, crocheted or cut out of fleece with love and prayers by dedicated parishioners. These wraps are blessed and intended for adults, children or infants needing to know the warmth, comfort and love provided by God and prayers of parishioners. The individual does not need to be a parishioner or Catholic. One can pick up a blessed Prayer Shawl at the rectory during the weekday business hours or found in the Adora on Chapel 24/7 or the usher's closet in church during the weekend Masses. 7 S M 11 Y H I The 11 th year began with another training class. Sam Cohen, Debbie Dean, Cara Henke, Terri Morrison, Amy Muscarella, Nancy McCormac, Michael McCormac and Maureen Rumping will receive 50 hours of training before being commissioned May 6th. Stephen Ministers provide quality one-to-one ministry as trained, caring parish members reaching out to others in me of need. They engage in a caregiving rela onship that focuses on the unique needs of one person and lasts as long as the need exists. They receive support, guidance, and supervision from Stephen Leaders and from each other in order to maintain effec ve Chris an care to others. Everybody is broken in one way or another. Losses, crises, and other painful life events show our brokenness and drive us to Jesus for healing and hope. In His cross, Jesus bore our griefs and carried our sorrows. In Him, we find the healing we need. Stephen Ministers bring hur ng people to Jesus cross, there to find healing and hope.
