R P G M L, K I H T, K S T W G 30 S O T T B Bartimaeus caused a stir. Normally he sat by the side of the road being a good blind beggar. But one day Jesus passed nearby. Bartimaeus jumped up and called out to Jesus. We can imagine him turning toward the direction of the commotion and noise. Bartimaeus probably had his arms outstretched as he shouted out to the son of David. The people who knew him were embarrassed by his outburst. They tried to hush him up and get him to sit back down by the roadside. Their actions spoke volumes: Bartimaeus, you re not fit for Jesus. But it was okay for them and other sighted people to follow Jesus. In today s readings, we learn that true blindness is not a condition of our eyes but of our hearts. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. (Diary of St. Faustina 1487) This invitation was given to St. Faustina by Jesus. He invites us to talk with Him in detail about everything that weighs heavily upon our heart too. Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father s house there are many dwelling places.i am going to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. John 14:1-3 Dear Parishioners, Next Sunday, November 1 st, we will celebrate All Saints Day. We will be welcoming guests and visitors to our parish for a special Memorial Mass at our 12 noon liturgy. During this Mass, we will be praying, by name, for the deceased relatives and friends of those who requested that we remember them in our prayers. This annual feast day provides us with the opportunity to pray for and remember our deceased in a special way. We will have candles displayed in our sanctuary with the names of our loved ones inscribed on them. We invite family members to take their loved one s candle home with them, following this 12 noon liturgy. As in past years, we will also have our Book of Remembrance displayed near our Holy Family statue. In this special book are the names of our faithful departed husbands, wives, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, parents, relatives and friends who have been called to their eternal home. Everyone is invited to enroll the names of those you love, whom we commend to God s mercy, so that together we can pray for them. On Monday, November 2 nd, we will celebrate the feast of All Souls. On that holy day, and throughout the month of November, we will keep the Book of Remembrance on display in front of our Holy Family statue. As many of you know, St. Joseph is the patron saint of a happy death. At both of our morning Masses (6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.), we will include the intercessions listed there in our prayers for our deceased family members and friends. God s blessings to you and your family, For information contact: Ricardo and Teresita La O at (636)

They are a set of meditations, prayers, and mental exercises organized into four weeks (stages of the journey). Many Catholics choose to go through a retreat in daily life, a program of daily prayer and spiritual direction. An important part of the Spiritual Exercises is the Examen, a prayerful reflection on the events of the day. Have you considered this important form of spirituality? S. E L W L R R L M C S P. O M, O.F.M. C. A B ( ) When we encounter the suffering of another, let us reach out and embrace them in love, allowing God to work through us. This might mean slowing down and taking the time to listen. It might mean providing respite care or preparing meals for a family facing serious illness. It might mean simply being present and available. And of course, it always means prayer--bringing their needs before the Father and asking him to work in their lives. Experiencing suffering or watching another suffer is one of the hardest human experiences. Fear of the unknown can lead us into the temptation of taking control in ways that offend our dignity and disregard the reverence due to each person. But we are not alone. Christ experienced suffering more deeply than we can comprehend, and our own suffering can be meaningful when we unite it with his. Especially in the midst of trials, we are invited to hold fast to the hope of the Resurrection. God is with us every step of the way, giving us the grace we need. In times of suffering, let us have the courage to accept help that others genuinely want to give, and give the help that others need. We were made to love and be loved; we are meant to depend on one another, serving each other in humility and walking together in times of suffering. Our relationships are meant to help us grow in perfect love. Let us learn to let go of our own standards of perfection and instead learn more deeply how to live according to God s standards. He does not call us to perfect efficiency or material success; he calls us to selfsacrificial love. He invites us to embrace each life for as long as it is given our own lives and the lives of those he has placed in our paths. Every life is worth living. PRAYER SHAWLS. G ' Prayer Shawls are wraps that have been knitted, crocheted or cut out of fleece with love and prayers by dedicated parishioners. These wraps are blessed and intended for adults, children or infants needing to know the warmth, comfort and love provided by God and prayers of parishioners. The individual does not need to be a parishioner or Catholic. One can pick up a blessed Prayer Shawl at the rectory on week days during business hours or they can be found in the usher's closet in church during the weekend Masses. There is no fee, but monetary or yarn donations are welcome! The Ministry could use more people who enjoy knitting, crocheting or cutting fleece to help make Prayer Shawls. If interested, please call Laurie , or Sharon Wrapped in God s Love

For information go to F A C Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, In the United States today, numerous Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests past age 70 benefit from the Retirement Fund for Religious collection. Donations to this special collection provide funding that helps religious communities care for senior members and plan for longterm retirement needs. On the weekend of November 1, all parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Louis will take up the annual collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious, an opportunity for you to acknowledge the thousands of senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests for their faithful service. Whether or not we realize it, we are all beneficiaries of the tremendous contributions these women and men have made to the Church in the United States. Through hard work, prayer, and sacrifice, they built Catholic schools and hospitals, initiated programs to promote social justice, and ministered to the neediest among us. Today, many religious communities struggle to care for their elderly members. Elder sisters, brothers, and religious order priests dedicated their lives to service and prayer, and some lack adequate retirement savings. Increasing health-care costs and decreased income make it difficult to provide necessary medical care, costly medications and basic services. Would you please consider making a contribution to the Retirement Fund for Religious? In addition, let us join together in grateful prayer for the generous religious who have served the Church in the United States. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. B P Today there is oftentimes a misconception of what the Sacrament of Confirmation is actually for or how it affects our lives. In this talk, Dr. Brant Pitre invites us to better understand the tremendous graces and calling received through this sacrament. He points to various passages in scripture which provide a historical foundation and, through bold witness, challenges us to willingly surrender our lives to Christ. Dr. Grant Pitre is a professor of Sacred Scripture at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, LA. Absolutely the best explanation of the Sacrament of Confirmation I have ever heard! Julie, Sterling, VA C T M A B B J P Are annulments just a Catholic version of divorce? Nothing could be further from the truth. The differences are profound, and much of the confusion springs from a misunderstanding about marriage itself. Bishop Perry explains the key principles of the Sacrament of Marriage and applies them to divorce and annulments. This presentation answers the most commonly asked questions on this topic. I rate this a 10 out of 10! It helped me to understand the value of the Sacrament of Marriage and the consideration for annulments. Karl, Denver, CO M, W, M L B D. E S In today s culture we re constantly bombarded with a secular notion of love and intimacy, instead of the kind of love that God intended for his children. In this presentation, Dr. Edward Sri explains how Saint John Paul II s teachings of the Theology of the Body can help us prepare for our future marriage by showing us how to live as selfless, authentic men and women. Anyone who believes that God is calling them to the Sacrament of Marriage definitely needs to listen to this talk. Jake, North Aurora, IL Humorous, insightful, and timeless! Nancy, Warroad, MN
