5 After an August break, Church Council met at 7PM the third Monday of the month, September 18, and opened with a Reformation themed devotion and prayer by Pastor Watt. Officer/Staff Reports Secretary s Minutes: Approved as written. Want to know the details? The previous months minutes can always be found in the lower narthex. Council President Betsy Buckingham gave the Treasurer and Finance reports: Envelope giving was approx. $7,000 below budget for August and is approx. $29,000 below budget for the year. Too many summer vacations? Consider Simply Giving. Call the office to find out more. Overall Income vs Expenses is approx. $90,000 unfavorable, the vast majority of which is due to the cost of the outside painting. Beth Barbato, Childcare Director Eight children went off to Kindergarten at the end of August so the enrollment dropped to 35 children. Several new children are enrolling, but there are still plenty of spots available if you know of any young families in need of quality day care. Thank you to all of those who donated money or bought pizzas to fund the trip to Lake Tobias. The children had a great time and even got to ride on a shiny new school bus! Terry Hoover, Education, Youth and Family Ministry Sunday school and Sunday evening Confirmation classes have started. The National Youth Gathering in Houston is still on for next summer and two youts, Ben Thornsberry and Adeline Gerz, are planning on going. Buy some grocery cards and keep an eye out for upcoming fundraising events. 7 Children s church will resume on Sunday, October 1 at 10:45 in the parlor. This is for children Pre-K through sixth grade. We will have lessons, prayer, a message according to that days Gospel lesson, and learn a little about our liturgy. I will bring the kids up to the Nave after the sermon so that they can participate in Communion with their families. Of course, if the kids would like to stay for the entire worship service that s a great thing too. On September 10, our Sunday school kids made thank you cards for our local police and fire station. After the late service these cards, along with baskets of goodies, were taken by some of the kids and their families to the City Police located on King St. and the Rex Fire station located on Duke St. Both police and firefighters on duty were pleased and surprised by our thanks. As thanks, from the fire house, the kids and families were treated to a tour of the firehouse and its history. They were treated to one of the firefighters sliding down the pole. Our next service project will be on November 5. The kids and youth will make Christmas gifts for the children enrolled in our day care center. The next kids, youth, and family fellowship activities will be a trio to Flinchbaugh s Orchards on Saturday, October 7. Advent crafts and activities on Saturday, December 2 before Light Up York. Specifics on December s event will be coming soon. 7

Always check with the pastor/group, leader/chairperson/choir director/property dept./church office, or any contact person before coming to the church on a snow/bad weather day. For Sunday services, after assessing the Saturday weather conditions, Pastor Watt will determine if the church services are cancelled or delayed. This information will be relayed to WGAL 8 for display on the WGAL 8 website (WGAL.com) and/or possible television broadcast. This information will also be posted on the church website and the church s Facebook page. 9

14 The above rendering is a beautiful and exquisite design for the pipe organ at Christ Lutheran Church. Following in the tradition of David Tannenberg, and the church s historic 1804 instrument, the Peragallo Organ Company of Paterson, NJ artfully crafted a new instrument from the church s present 1971 Moller pipe organ. The new organ and its design complements the interior of the church. Once completely refurbished with new pipes, a broad tonal palate, and the use of the front chamber, (which now sits in silence), the instrument will lead worship and music for generations to come. As the current organ continues its decline in playability, your financial support of the Christ Lutheran Church Organ Fund will help maintain and restore the organ for generations to come. To date, the current balance in the fund is $78,907. Please visit the Organ Restoration Table in the Lower Narthex with additional information and to see the status of fundraising marked on the organ pipe! Additional brochures and large renderings of the instrument can be found around the church. All are welcome in the balcony to get a closer look at the pipe work inside the organ chambers. To see non-speaking pipes that have been removed, please visit the choir room. 14
