1 THE CHAPTER DEAN S MESSAGE Every June since 1969, the Lancaster Chapter of the American Guild of Organists has provided a Summer organ concert for the citizens of the greater Lancaster area. These concerts are held in a church within the Lancaster city area containing a significant organ. Members of the Lancaster Chapter participate in this final event of our chapter s program year. This year, our concert will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, June 14 at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 501 East Orange Street, Lancaster. A customary free-will offering is received at the Summer concert to benefit the Lunt McConnell Scholarship Fund supporting young musicians who apply for scholarships to study the organ. Featured on this year s lineup of performers: Paul Reese, Organist, St. John s Episcopal Church, Lancaster, PA Dr. Rob Horton, Organist/Choirmaster, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster, PA Mark Herr, Chapter Dean and Organist, Myerstown UCC, Myerstown, PA John Hamilton, active violinist in the Lancaster area Dr. Karl E. Moyer, Retired Millersville University professor Margaret Marsch, Organist, Lancaster Church of the Brethren Genevieve Hash, young organists and 2018 Scholarship recipient, and Dr. Ross Ellison, Millersville University Music professor and area guest organist. All who attend will find plenty of off-street parking around St. Anthony of Padua Church, located at East Orange and North Ann 1
2 Streets. There is easy curb-side drop off and an elevator entrance within the parking area at the church. New to the eyes and ears of most chapter members, this organ is a fine instrument recently refurbished by the Peragallo Organ Company, of Paterson, New Jersey. It is a three-manual, 34-rank organ built in the style of the early 20th century American Romance instrument. The combined beauty of the church and excellent acoustics of the space promise a wonderful evening of music by composers including Bach, Rheinberger, Dupré, Duruflé, Elgar, and Holst. A highlight of the evening concert will be Rob Horton one of three finalists in the improvisation contest at the National AGO 2018 Summer convention crafting improvisation on a tune given to him before his performance.
