1 C L C 29 S. George Street, York, Pa A FEBRUARY 18, 2018 To receive updates, send an request to: office@christlutheranyork.com W N Today is the first Sunday in Lent. We hear Mark 1:9-15: The temptation of Jesus in the wilderness for forty days. A new feature of worship is including someone s favorite hymn during Sunday morning services. This is one way for us to share more with one another what our faith means to us. Today s hymn of the day, A Mighty Fortress, was chosen by Roger Patches. Roger states, It expresses the Christian faith very well, and both words and music were wri en by Martin Luther. The distribution hymn, My Faith Looks Up to Thee, was chosen by Be e Hombach. Be e writes, It was my mother s favorite hymn and her spirit is with me when we sing it. Z L C The demolition of the Zion Lutheran Church property is scheduled to begin soon. Please note that during this time access to the church will be limited as part of South Court Avenue will be closed to traffic. Access to the parking lot will be available via King Street only.
2 S S The Adult Sunday School class has begun a new series on the general topic of health, illness, and faith. It will be made up of a combination of guest speakers, viewing of selected DVDs, and class discussion. The study uses statements from the crowd, Caiaphas, Pilate, Peter, the chief priests, and the centurion to let us see the point of view of these different witnesses. 7:00 pm - Service with readings, hymns, and Holy Eucharist (Chapel) Please sign up for the soup and supper by indicating your name and number of people a ending on the back of your a endance card, or by calling the church office during the week. 2
3 W W P Again this year, the church office/staff, Child Care and the Tutoring Program will follow the York City Schools Cancellation Policy (Monday thru Friday). If the York City Schools have a delay, cancellation or early dismissal due to snow/bad weather, then the office/staff, child care and tutoring will do the same. On snow/bad weather days, the property department will be at the church to supervise the snow removal contractor and to do sidewalk clearing/salt application. Any evening services/ activities that are on the calendar when a snow/bad weather day occurs, could possibly be cancelled or delayed. Always check with the pastor/group leader/chairperson/choir director/ property dept./church office or any contact person before coming to the church on a snow/bad weather day. For Sunday services, after assessing the Saturday weather conditions, Pastor Wa will determine if the church services are cancelled or delayed. This information will be relayed to WGAL 8 for display on the WGAL 8 website (WGAL.com). This information will also be posted on the church website and the church Facebook page. N Y G Invest in our Youth! As a National Youth Gathering fundraiser, we are asking you to buy stock in the two youth, Ben and Adeline, who are a ending. Pick an envelope from the board in the Lower Narthex, put your investment in it, and then, place it in the offering plate. Each envelope has an amount on it, so pick the one that is best for you. If you do not see an amount that you feel is good for you, pick an envelope with a? on it and make your own investment amount. The envelopes will be available February 18 through March 4. The total amount for both Ben and Adeline to a end Houston is $2700. They have just another $1000 to raise in order to experience this great event. If you have any questions contact me, Terry Hoover, or one of the parents, Jen Gerz and Alison Thornsberry. Thank you ahead of time. 3
