1 TAWAS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Volume 44 Issue 11 November 2017 What a wonderful Autumn season that we have enjoyed! As I write this message, the colors are brilliant, the leaves are beginning to fall, and the weather is unseasonably warm. I hope that you are enjoying the wonder of this season, unfortunately I fear that the weather is about to change in a way that most of us are not looking forward to. Whatever the season, it is great to live in this community! As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, (yes, there is a special holiday between Halloween and Christmas), let us turn our thoughts to giving thanks to God for all that God provides for us. We are fortunate to live in a community where we can witness the wonder of God s creation around us, we can reach our potential in life, we can live in peace, and we are surrounded by some of the greatest neighbors possible. As a Christian, I am grateful for the three P s that God provides for our lives. God gives each of us Purpose. As God s people we can make a difference in the lives of those living in the community around us. As individuals we could continually chase after the temporary, but as God s people we are called to share the wonder of Christ and to improve the quality of life for those in need. For the meaningful purposes that God calls us to, we can be thankful! God is Present. We are not alone, God s Spirit or presence dwells within us. In times of need, God is either standing with us or in some cases carrying us through the struggles of life. When we are afraid, concerned, or anxious, God will not forsake us. During times of celebration, God is there to cheer with us. When we seek to serve God, God s Spirit is with us to empower, encourage, and to sustain us. God knew us before we were born, therefore, God will be with us through every aspect of life. For God as our constant companion, we can be thankful! God gives us Peace. In Christ we have hope, promise, and assurance. We live in an uncertain world. With our faith in Christ we need not worry about the future, our God is in control. For the peace of mind that God offers, we can be thankful! God Bless Pastor Dan

8 GIFT CARD PROGRAM Do you use gift or money cards? Our program offers the same 350 different gift/ money cards with 745 various denominations or methods to obtain money value to these cards. You can purchase directly from us or we can set up a family account which allows you to reload various cards you purchase from us. If you have reloadable cards you can add money to these cards and they are then available with the new value within 3-4 hours and you do not have to wait for us to get new ones for you. These are the same cards you can purchase at Walmart, Neiman s or Rite-Aid stores. If you buy these cards from us, we then earn various percentage rebates for our church to help fund special programs in our church. We want to thank everyone who desires to help us with this gift card program. Thank you to all who purchased pies. For every two pies that were sold, we were able to help buy shoes or boots for a student in our area. The Shoe Project has truly been a blessing to our school community for many years. Thank you for your support. Operation Christmas Child boxes are due to the Church on Sunday, November 12th. Please be sure to have the label on the box (a girl/boy and the age) and rubber band the box together--please do not tape the box closed. Please do not put toothpaste or candy in the box as the guidelines have changed a bit due to customs. The Missions Memorial Tree Lighting will be on Monday, December 4th at 6:30. 10 YOUTH NEWS! Our programs are up & running! I want to thank the following volunteers: for Sunday School; Pam Lynch, Morgan Anderson & Theresa Wilt. Morgan & Theresa will be substitute teachers when Pam needs them. For junior church: Anna Dalman, Sharon Schlagel & Jane Millard. We are looking for 1 more person to get in the rotation. You are all a blessing to our Church. By the time you read this we will have 7 new members that are youth. They have been coming to classes with Pastor Dan and are stepping up to a commitment to our Church. Congratulations to all of you. It's a true sign of God working in our Church. Our Spectacular Saturday group went to a corn maze/pumpkin patch for our October meeting. I challenged them to compare the corn maze to the people that followed Moses into the desert, not knowing where they were going to end up! It was a great time. I'm adding something new to our news every month. I'm going to ask one of our youth a question & share their answer. This month I asked Colton Hasty what Thanksgiving means to him. His answer was "It's about Spirit, God, and love". Colton is a 3rd grader at Richardson Elementary school in Oscoda. Think about that as you enjoy Thanksgiving this year! Blessings, Nancy
