1 TAWAS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Volume 44 Issue 10 October 2017 Autumn has arrived! The trees are changing color, the days are shorter, and the hint of cooler weather is now apparent. I hope that you enjoyed our Summer and the wonderful memories that you made. Although we are disappointed that our summer is over, with the Fall season comes many opportunities within our community of faith. October 1st will conclude our annual Stewardship Campaign. During that worship service you will have the opportunity to pledge your financial commitment for This commitment is strictly voluntary, but it helps our Finance Committee to plan the church budget for the coming year. How will you give of your time, talent, and resources for the coming year? Over the past four Sundays we considered the question, Why do we give to God? I believe that in Christ we have found a relationship, a reality, a faith, and a purpose that are so precious, that our desire to give back to God comes as a natural result. Because of Jesus Christ we now have hope, promise, and peace in our lives. Our lives have been made new, different, and transformed by the reality of Jesus. 2 Corinthians 5: 17 proclaims, So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old as passed away; see, everything has become new! (NRSV) With grateful hearts, we can give to our Lord and Savior. What Time or Talent Can You Share For God s Benefit? Teach or Lead a Small Group Study or Activity Join a Church Choir Serve in Mission United Methodist Women United Methodist Men Serve on a Church Committee Volunteer to Serve: Usher Church Nursery Greeting Maintenance Projects Church Related Activities Within our church there are many ways that we can give to God our time, talents, and resources. Let us give with a grateful heart to the One who has given us so much! God Bless! Pastor Dan

3 TAWAS UNITED METHODIST WOMEN Do you feel the chill in the air or notice the dew on the ground in the morning? Yes, Fall is about here again. We are so lucky to be living here where we can see all the glory of God's creation. Of course, with Fall comes the Bazaar on October 21st. We hope you have been at work creating lots of things to sell. We will have vendors but also our own tables too. Our October meeting will be working on pricing things. Our UMW meeting will be Tuesday, October 10th at 1 pm. We are also still having the LUNCH BUNCH on the last Wednesday at 12 noon at the East Tawas Big Boy. We would love to have everyone come. Pastor Dan also talked about our drive to help UMCOR with monetary help for the recent hurricanes in Florida and Texas. There is a flyer in the Gathering Space at the Church. We have placed envelopes for you to use to make any donations to this cause. Remember 100 per cent of your donation goes directly to help the victims. A big thank you to all that came to or donated to our Baby Shower for the Layette Ministry. We enjoyed fellowship, played a couple of games and had a lovely cake. A nice evening was had by all. We had a tour of our library, Candy Thomas gave a great tour and made us aware of all that is available right in our own Church Library. She also spoke about the UMW reading program. Big thanks from us to Candy for bringing us all information. We will potentially greet 15 new members and will receive an additional 3 members through transfer. On Sunday October 29th., I encourage you to welcome these new members to our congregation. Do you know that plans are being made to beautify our Church? Jamie McArdle (a landscape architect) is planning to hold two workshops to receive your ideas on how we can best utilize and beautify our church property. This will be a long term project, but we can now take advantage of this great opportunity! Watch for your opportunity to share in these workshops. Do you know that you as a church member and Christian have the opportunity and a responsibility to serve God? Soon the Nominations Committee will be seeking to fill leadership positions in our church for the upcoming year. How will you choose to use your time and talents for the Lord? If there is an area in which you would like to serve in leadership, please contact Pastor Dan or the Church Office. Do you know that there are phones in our two kitchens? Unfortunately, they utilize the same phone line that is used for our Sunday Broadcast. During Sunday morning worship, please Do Not Use The Phones in the two kitchens. Thank you! Do you know that on November 5th we will share in a worship service to remember and celebrate the lives of our members and loved ones who have recently passed away? 10 YOUTH NEWS! We are excited to get our programming up & running. We will continue Sunday School at it's new time, 11:15-12:00. A big thank you goes out to Pam Lynch for her faithfulness in teaching our children. Junior Church is back for kids through the fourth grade. Another big thanks to Anna Dalman for heading this up. She keeps our volunteers on a rotating schedule. I appreciate all her volunteers & hopefully in our next BEACON I can mention them by name. Spectacular Saturday kicked off with a fun time of fellowship, good food (grilled by our famous chef, Pastor Dan), games & sharing our news for the coming year. Because our God is so faithful we are expanding our group to three groups. Spectacular Saturday 1 will be ages 4 through third grade. Spectacular Saturday 2 will be grades 4th through 6th. Seventh grade & up will move to our Youth Group! How exciting is that? Youth group won't be the same day as Spectacular Saturday. The day & time is yet to be announced. We also will be welcoming new members in October. Our youth have been attending confirmation classes lead by Pastor Dan and Heather Hasty. What a thrill to see our youth anxious to make this commitment to God. What a blessing they are to our Church! Please pray for all these programs, their leaders & most importantly our youth. Blessings, Nancy
