2 Dear Church, First of all, I want to thank you for your initial response to the Heating System Capital Campaign letter that was sent out a few weeks ago. Replacing the heating system in the church building is an enormous project. I appreciate the generosity of those who have already returned pledge cards. Some have even begun to give, either with their pledge card or through the Sunday offering. Thank you for your gifts and your commitment to this project. If you have not turned in your pledge card, I ask that you prayerfully consider giving toward the project. We rely on God s provision and your generosity to see this project through. Second, I want to encourage you to join us in church for The Cross-Shaped Family sermon series. The series started in mid-october and runs through the end of November. We may already be a couple weeks in, but it is never too late to join. This series is important because it addresses the reality of family life. Family is hard. It can be both the greatest source of joy and the greatest source of pain in our lives. Family is worth it, because God transforms our families through the power of the Gospel. Even if your family is broken, or if it has never been better, God wants to point our families to the power of the cross. God can and does forgive our sin, heal our brokenness, and redeem our relationships. Ultimately, our families point us to the greater reality of how we relate to God and his church. Whether you are a husband, wife, parent, child, grandparent, single, or widowed, we all have something to learn because we are all part of the family of God. I went into this new year of youth ministry not knowing what to expect. We had just revamped our youth ministry, and I wasn t sure how all of the new changes would unfold. I ll be honest I was nervous and apprehensive going into this year. I wanted so badly for the things that God had led us through during the long revamping process to work. And let me tell you, God has been working! God has been working in incredible ways in our youth group, our students and our leaders. We have an exciting new leadership team that formed at the end of this month in our youth ministry! We now have a Student Leadership Team. The team is made up of high school students that want to lead their peers and learn about Godly leadership. Our team consists of Tori Lammers, Carly Fledderjohann, Sam Anspach, Morgan Leffel, Erica Weadock, Gavin Reineke, and Haley Fledderjohann. Our goal for this team is to help our students take ownership of our youth ministry at First Church. These students are going to be helping lead their peers! We met for the first time this past month and they have amazing ideas for our youth ministry. This group will be in charge of different areas in our youth group from helping plan events, praying for their peers and being a voice for our students. They were so excited to get started that they asked to do a student led Halloween Party as their first big event to plan. How cool is that?! I am so excited to see how God uses this group to reach their peers. Please be praying for this new leadership team as they learn about Christ-centered leadership and lead their peers. There is no youth group on November 21 and no high school bible study on November 25. Enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with your family! Blessings. Tory Sr. High Youth & Parent Meeting Summer Trip There will be a meeting on Wednesday, November 7 from 7:30 to 8 pm for any Sr. High students who are interested in the 2019 Summer Trip. This trip is open to youth currently in grades 9-12 during the 18/19 school year.

5 Building Projects & Repairs Asbestos removal and air quality testing are all complete. The trustees will be meeting with Smith Boughan on Wednesday, October 31 to begin development of the Request for Proposal materials so we can put the heating system project out for bid. The wood roll up door in the social room is still broken and may not be easily fixable. Those doors are at least 80+ years old (maybe older) and two different garage door companies have been here to look at them. Neither have ever seen a system like ours before nor do they see a way to fix it without major expense (tearing out the wall surrounding the door). As far as we are able to research - the company that made them is no longer in business. If you saw water flowing through the parking lot several weeks ago, no, we didn't have a leak anywhere. The state is requiring us to permanently plug our old well. It's a natural artesian well so it was recommended that we see if we can reduce the pressure to make the process easier. We removed some old cabinets elsewhere and are repurposing them into a new welcome / info center. It will be over by the custodians office and will be a central location for information and signing up for events etc... Agape Thanksgiving Dinner Food Drive Operation Christmas Child Agape Ministries in St. Mary s provides food assistance to families and individuals in need all year and Thanksgiving is no different. This year, Agape hopes to distribute 200 Thanksgiving boxes. These boxes provide everything needed to make a Thanksgiving dinner at home. In support of this effort, First Church of New Knoxville is looking for local businesses and churches to supply the contents of the boxes. (Turkeys are being supplied by Kuck s Turkey Farm) We are asking for local churches and individuals to supply all the fixings for the meal. Agape provided a list of items that they plan to put in the boxes. Instant Potatoes Canned Sweet Potatoes Canned Potatoes Egg Noodles Stuffing Mix Cranberry Sauce Gravy Mix Broth Items can be dropped off at First Church of New Knoxville or directly to Agape Ministries in St. Marys by Sunday, November 11. Monetary gifts can be given directly to Agape to help cover the cost of perishable items such as salad and pies. Your gifts will go a long way to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for local families. It s that time of year again! Grab an empty shoebox and reach out to needy children in desperate situations around the world. The shoe box you fill may be the only Christmas present many of the children will receive. Information is also added to each shoe box by Samaritans Purse sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ! This is not just a Sunday school project. Everyone is encouraged to take part and fill a shoe box. Brochures with box labels are at the entrances and on the info table by the custodians office. The final deadline to drop off a box is Sunday, November 18 at 11:30 am. Changes for this year The cost to ship each box is $9. If you are able to cover the cost of shipping that is a blessing and we thank you. Instructions for that are on the label. If you are not able to make up a box but would like to cover the cost of postage for a box that would be a blessing also! Just mark your check or envelope Christmas child box postage and drop it in the offering plate. Any donations received over that needed to cover the cost of a box will go directly to Samaritan s Purse.
6 Dear Church Family, thank you all so much for your prayers for my sister Kathy. Prayers are what have pulled her through these trying days. With heartfelt gratitude, Jane Novean Dear First Church, many thanks for remembering us with a rose in honor of our 50th wedding anniversary. Also thank you so much to those who sent cards. Bruce & Ellen Eschmeyer Dear Friends, I would like to thank my family for having a 90th birthday party with all the fixings for my family and friends. Also for showing a film of photos from all those 90 years. Thank you to all who attended the party, sent cards, greeted me in church or at the post office and called me at home. This made for a not soon to be forgotten 90th birthday! Thank you and God bless you all. Sincerely, Irene K. Howe. Dear Church family, Thank you so much for the gift on Pastor Appreciation Sunday. It is an honor and privilege to serve as your pastor. My family and I are beyond blessed to be a part of First Church and the New Knoxville community. I am particularly thankful that you value us as a family. We look forward to spending a day away together as a family at the Newport Aquarium. I look forward to many more years serving alongside you as we work to advance the Kingdom of God in this community and around the world. Thank you, Pastor Joel, Alie, JoJo, and Myles Dear Church, Thank you so much for the pastors appreciation gift you gave to Jake and I. We cannot wait to use the gift for a date night! We are so blessed to be a part of an amazing church family. It is a joy and honor to be serving the Lord alongside of you. Thank you for your constant support and prayer. We love you all! Love, Tory & Jake Breitigan Dear First Church, thank you for the beautiful rose that we received for our 60th wedding anniversary, we enjoyed it all week. Thank you also for the many cards we received from so many of you. Don & Carol Heidt Dear First Church, thank you so much for the rose on the Altar for our 51st wedding anniversary. It is a blessing to be married this many years and we appreciated all the good wishes. Thank you. Roger and Sandy Hoelscher Dear First Church, we are writing to acknowledge and thank you for your generous contribution of $1,500 for our ministry to retired missionaries. NTM Homes cares for missionaries who spend their careers serving but were not able to save for retirement. Times have changed and pensions are not offered. Thank you for meeting our needs so we can in turn serve those who have served. Serving together with you, Jim & Carol Sheffield. First Church, We want to thank you for your gracious gift to our ministry with Generation LINK in Clemson, SC. God is at work as we seek to make disciples in Clemson and we are constantly seeing him provide for us. The day before the gift you sent came, we were told we were short the exact amount given to receive our paycheck. God continually provides according to his timing. We miss you all, look forward to seeing you soon, and are praying for you! John and Courtney Henschen On All Saints Sunday we remember those who have entered into Christ s care in the last year.
