A year in our lives is closing, and another year in the rest of our lives is dawning. The New Year is a time to reﬂect on the past year as we look forward to the coming one.

Knowing the presence God in our lives enables us to face the future with courage and faith. What kind of year has it been for you? Has it been a year to cherish or a year to quickly forget?

And with that, many of us make New Year s resolutions; or promises to ourselves, or to God, that we will personally be different in new year.

The memory of the meaning of this Christmas Season endures through the New Year s celebration. After celebrating Christmas Day, we look to the end of this year and the beginning of a new year. The end of every episode of life evokes reﬂective thought on our part. What joys or pains may this year hold for each of us? Knowing the presence God in our lives enables us to face the future with courage and faith. What kind of year has it been for you? Has it been a year to cherish or a year to quickly forget? Whatever the old year brought us, the New Year ﬁlls us with hope. A hope, that will bring a change for us, a chance for a fresh new start-a new beginning. And with that, many of us make New Year s resolutions; or promises to ourselves, or to God, that we will personally be different in new year. It is my hope that amongst new year s resolutions we will remember Christ and our personal relationship with Him. of habit and in general no one likes or accepts change easily. Change can affect us, physically, emotionally, and spiritually throughout the course of our lives. However, when we encounter changes we must keep in mind that throughout our lives we always experience change. To keep us on track through these different and sometimes difﬁcult stages of change, we must always remember we posses one constant our lives; that we are Christians called to live Christcentered lives. Let us remind ourselves that the Child of Bethlehem is with us, as we carry on our combat of faith and hope. The eternal message of the church is Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb. 13:8). The saints of our church have proven this time and time again for two thousand years. Through Christ, they endured persecution, torture and change, yet they remained faithful in their lives. As we are exposed to challenges and changes in our lives we must unceasingly seek the Lord s guidance through prayer, worship, service, and fellowship, thus following the examples given to us by the saints of our Church. It is only with Christ at the centre of our lives that we can overcome the changes that lay ahead in the New Year and grow His Church. He was ordained as deacon by Kadavil Paulose Mar Athanasios and in 1908 at Jerusalem he was elevated to the monastic order of Ramban. He was consecrated as Metropolitan Oughen Mar Timotheos on 15 May 1927 at Jerusalem. He was appointed as the fourth Metropolitan of Kandanad. He has left his imprint in several offices that he held during his life. He was principal of the Orthodox Theological Seminary, and the Metropolitan of Kandanad and Thumpamon dioseses. On 17 May 1962, when the Malankara Association met at Niranam, he was chosen as the Catholicate of the East. It was on 22 May 1964 at M.D. Seminary, Kottayam that he was installed formally as the fourth Catholicos. As he was very old, he relinquished his position as Malankara Metropolitan to his successor on 24 September Having achieved expectional scholarship in Malayalam and Syriac languages, he translated into Malayalam the Pemkisa Namaskaram Prumiyonukal, Valiya Nombilae Namaskaram, Pattamkoda Shushrusha Kramangal and Pallikoodasha Kramangal. He also composed the Hood-omakal for Holy Synods and the State after death. He passed away on 8 December 1975 at Develokam Aramana and was laid to rest near the Aramana Chapel. HH Baselius Geevarghese I His Holiness Baselios Geevarghese I, second Catholicos of the East in Malankara His Holiness was born in 1870 as the second son of Karuchira Paulose. He was ordained as Koruya on 13 June 1885, as deacon in 1892, on 16 August 1896 as priest and on 23 August as Ramban(Monk) by Metropolitan Kadavil Paulose Mar Athanasios. He served as Manager in Thrikunnath Seminary, Aluva from 1908 to On February 1913, he was consecrated as Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Philexinos. He was the Metropolitan of Kottayam and Angamaly diocese. He made Vallikattu Dayara his administrative headquarters. On 30 April 1925 at Niranam, the Holy Synod installed him as the Catholicos of the East. Through prayer and fasting he achieved spiritual strength, which helped him to guide the Malankara Church into green pastures. He passed away on 17 December 1928 at Neyyoor Hospital. He was laid to rest on the northern side of Vallikattu Dayara. His death anniversary is on 17th December. 7
