7 From the Editor s Desk Greetings in the name of Jesus! A wonderful New Year, 2018 has set its place in our hearts and with much expectations and prayers we welcome this New Year. In everyone s heart, each New Year has a special place. Amidst the mirth of the Christmas and the New Year which follows, certain things to be noted well- a few to acquire, a few from which we have to stand apart, and a few to think twice; that is the fact. I wish all the readers an amazing 2018, where you be able to experience the divine who abides with us in every single step. And, this edition of the Church Voice reaches you as a special one, a compilation of the highlights of the gone year 2017 which definitely will rejuvenate our memories and will let us to stop and think the ways which we have tread so far in our journey of faith. A review of 2017, which has many stories to tell and experiences to share, should be made and with an eye of optimism and courage and we look at 2018 with a handful of resolutions through which we believe, a change must occur let that be so! We live in a world, where peoples with various masks are many. Try to be genuine; wherever you are. The level of focus and discipline of life as a Christian has to be maintained well by each one of us; wherever our space is set. As a worshiping community, let us revisit our call and commitment, where I have fallen and where should I head to. We must have a commitment and concern towards the society where we live in. A good number of our brothers and sisters remain in pathetic situations of life. When Okhi had made a drastic disaster to the southern coast of India during November 2017, many had turned up meeting the victims with the basic necessities of life and being with them; praying for their dear and near ones to be back home, it still continues. This New Year must shatter our comfort zones and should trigger each one of us with the audacity of Jesus to make us those moments feel like worth the life lived. The vibes of temptations in different modes are always around. Keep yourself alert in everything you do, or chances will attest how fallible we are. Family has a harmony of heaven, but if we persistently makes it monotonous; gone, its beauty. In this era of smart sensors and emoticons, let us find some time to be available to those who care for us and desperately need us as we are. Children, be good to your parents and parents vice versa. Never the beauty of your family life be lost and the loss will definitely be irreplaceable. A life which stands firm in prayer, that is what we should strive for and should have a conscious mind which discerns the truth from the wrong and also the left from right. Let the New Year 2018 to which we have made the first step, continue to strengthen us to remain as a beacon of hope in a world which is obsessed with impressiveness and ego. Let us move unparalleled as one who can reflect the vision of life and activity of Christ, and thereby letting those who are around us to experience His unending grace. A change in our lives should be marked, a transition from what we are to what we should be, this year gives a call for that. A perfect blend of love and mercy, that should define, how humane we are. I appreciate each one who has their signature in bringing out a special edition of the Church voice. The editorial committee was diligently behind the release of this wonderful outcome, a big thanks to the Team Church Voice. Prayers and good wishes for a very blessed New Year God Bless Rev. Rohan P. 16 th year of publication 5

This year Women s Fellowship started with the candle lighting service, in January with Mrs. Lyda Jacob, Rtd. IAS officer as the chief guest. Dr. Ambily Paul from Agricultural University was invited on World Environment day and she took a very useful class on pesticide residues in food commodities. Family week was observed in a very good manner. During the week we visited the old age home, Sancta Maria near Plamood, had lunch with them and donated groceries. We also visited the houses of the sick and the elderly members of our church and a cottage prayer with communion service was conducted at the residence of Mrs. Violet Edwin, Watts Lane. On Family Sunday, our members gave messages in all services, and in the 8:30 am service, our members took the lead in the order of service also. The annual sale was conducted on November 12 th and our thanks to Mrs. Vimala James who inaugurated the sale. The proceeds of the sale would be utilized for constructing a small house for a young lady, deserted by her husband. Our excursion to Varkala was enjoyed by our members and the annual retreat was conducted at Vizhinjam. As in the previous years, we visited Kallar mission center and distributed 35 food kits worth Rs. 20,000. This year God blessed us abundantly and we could be able to give monetary assistance to many needy people, as education help, marriage help and medical help. Nearly one lakh was spent on charity. My sincere thanks to Mrs. Susheela Sugunan and Dr. Manju Renjith for taking regular Bible Study. Three regular members, Mrs. Joyce P. C., Mrs. Padmaleela and Mrs. Geetha J. Thomas were called to eternal rest this year. May their souls rest in peace. Let me conclude by thanking God almighty for the wonderful guidance. I thank all the members for their co-operation without whom the Women s Fellowship would not have functioned well. Secretary, Women s Fellowship CHURCH VOICE 8 January 2018

14 THE CLOCK TICKS ON D. L. Nesaraj Mohan s friends got annoyed with him for he did not turn up for hockey practice for the last 3 days. One of them said, he must be sick, while another doubted he may be out of station. Back at home, Mohan was not at all concerned about the hockey practice. His mind was occupied with the competitive examination taking place the following day, which could fetch him a coveted job. For the last one week he has not attended to any of his usual amusements, hobbies or pastimes. He was fully absorbed in his preparations for the ensuing exam. Nothing else mattered. At times, he was even oblivious of his hunger. All of us must have had similar situations in our lives some time or the other. When something really important has to be attended to, we discard all other matters. In other words, we attach priorities to all our activities in life, grading from the most important to the least important. In the event of a fire or flood, we try to salvage the most precious possessions, and discard things of lesser value. No man will think of his clothes or his certificates when his baby s life is at risk. While Mohan had one week s preparation time for obtaining his coveted job, we do not know how much time we are left with in this life, before the Lord comes with our rewards. We only know that it is imminent. Also, we are not sure when we will be removed from this world. If so, how much more diligent we should be in the utilization of our time! NUMBERING OUR DAYS Standing on the threshold of a new year, we presume we have a year s time ahead. But we suddenly realize that tomorrow is not guaranteed for us. Nor can we predict how many days of the 365 would be ours. A person who is uncertain about the time available to him would be keen to make the maximum benefit of each minute. That s why apostle Paul advises in Eph.5:15-16 to walk not as unwise, but as wise, making the best use of time because the days are evil. See how the psalmist prays in Psalm 90:12 - So teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom. It would be worthwhile for us to have a retrospection now. What have we done with the 365 days which we received as a gift from our Lord last year? Of the 8760 hours we had at our disposal, how many hours were wasted for unprofitable activities? It would be wise to CHURCH VOICE 12 January 2018

15 take stock of the situation so that we would not repeat the foolishness of the year gone by. How can we make the best use of our time? SETTING OUR PRIORITIES A wise man sets priorities in life. He utilizes the precious time at his disposal for pursuing his prioritized objectives. Shall we muse a while, what receives our first priority? Putting up hard work to secure a safe financial base? Developing our abilities to become a celebrity? Acquiring maximum knowledge to become a person of eminence? Securing a bright future for our children? Getting settled in a house of our own? None of these is bad or undesirable. And, there are also silly people for whom eating and drinking, dressing, looking beautiful, watching movies and television serials, etc. are so important that they spend much of their valuable time and money in pursuit of these interests. Let us realize that all these, irrespective of their gravity, are useful only for the short time we live on this earth. Compared to eternity, a hundred years of life on earth is nothing. As Moses says in Psalm 90:10, it is soon cut off, and we fly away. If so, shouldn t we give utmost importance for the preparation for eternal life rather than for this short and transitory life? Getting prepared for the eternal kingdom is not a one-time process, to be completed within a limited period after accepting Christ as our Saviour, and being complacent saying: I am prepared. On the contrary, it is a life-long process which demands our time every day. A born-again person is only a child in Spirit, who has to be nourished by spiritual milk so that he would grow up into salvation (1 Peter 2:2). Read Hebrews 5:13-14 where it says: But solid food is for the mature, for those who have the powers of discernment, trained by constant practice, to distinguish good from evil. To become skilled in the word of righteousness there is no other way than to prayerfully study the Word of God. So, in our daily routine, times. Life is beset with many problems and we have to obtain solutions from God through prayer. We can depend only on the wisdom of God. Also, we have to praise and thank God for all His gifts, guidance, protection, and providence each day. Hence, prayer time is inevitable in the preparation for eternity. So, personal prayer, family prayer, and Bible meditation should receive high priority in our daily routine. It would be relevant at this point, to look at a few lines of the hymn: Take time to be holy written by W.D. Longstaff, which, in itself, is a great sermon. (It would be profitable to learn the whole hymn by heart). Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord; Abide in Him always and feed on His Word... Take time to be holy, the world rushes on; Spend much time in secret with Jesus alone - By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be; Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see. Our time is also due for fellowship with believers, Gospel meetings, and corporate worship, which are essential for our spiritual growth and sustenance. Witnessing and evangelization is another priority of a Christian. Though we can do this in many ways such as preaching, singing, writing, acts of love and concern, etc., without devoting our time we cannot do these. We may wonder how we can find time for all these from the meagre 24 hours given each day! Apostle Paul has an answer. REDEEMING OUR TIME The King James version of the verses in Eph.5:15-16 reads: See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. How can we redeem the time? The word redeeming, is substituted with the words making the best use of in later versions. In fact, the KJV carries a deeper meaning. We know, the word redeem means, to claim back something lost, by paying a price. When Paul advises us to redeem the time, he wants us to take back that time, which we have assigned for some unimportant purposes like entertainment... Cont d on page th year of publication 13

21 GOSPEL PEACE* Dr. D. Stanley Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid...st. John, 14: 27 The Beginning: The advent of the Gospel Peace was declared by a host of angels from heaven to the shepherds minding their flock by night, soon after the birth of Jesus. Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace and good will towards men. (St. Luke, 2:14) Context: After following the Lord for over three-and-a-half years, witnessing his miracles and assimilating his teachings, the apostles face a situation where He would soon depart from them to be with the Father and sorrow filled their hearts (St. John 16: 5-7). Jesus spoke the above words to console and strengthen them. 1. Peace I leave with you.. It is obvious that it refers to peace in general. It is the worldly peace of mind and body, desired by one and all, arising from mutual love, affection and respect. It also derives from the satisfaction of fulfilling one s own duties and responsibilities to himself, to his family, to the society and to the country. Wishing each other holistic peace and well-being, is an age-old custom in many societies. Eg. Shalom (Jews), As -salamu Alayikum (Arabs) and Lafiya (Housas in Africa). 2...my peace I give unto you... It is a special kind of peace - His Peace. It is different from (1) above, because Jesus Himself calls it, my peace. Being the Prince of Peace and the Son of God, this peace, emanating from the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and the Holy Spirit) is brought down to the world by Jesus and was eventually sanctified by His precious blood shed for our salvation at Calvary not as the world giveth, give I unto you. This further emphasises the difference between His peace and the worldly peace. The presumed worldly peace is derived from pleasures of the flesh, power, riches, feeling of selfrighteousness, observance of false religious practices, paralysis of spiritual senses and so on. It is hypocritical and transient. But the peace of Jesus is lasting and eternal. 4. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid By saying this Jesus promises His disciples that His peace will bring solace and happiness to their hearts and minds. They will also experience the fellowship of the Holy Spirit and will be comforted. * A free adaptation and translation of an extract from Chapter 1, Part III of the Book, Gospel Peace (In Tamil), written by the author s grandfather, Dr. R. Asirvatham, Medical Missionary, Neyyoor, in th year of publication 19

25 HOW "CYBER-AGE'' AFFECTS OUR DAILY LIFE Miss Preeti Rachel Jasper A majority of us refer to the internet as a virtual space. Technology is a part of everyday life, technology makes things possible but it does not make it inevitable. We can make most of the positive opportunities that the cyber world offers, relying still more on the Holy Words from the Bible and placing God, the people around us and the nature in good relationship. We shall very quickly go through 3 of these relationships one by one. 1. Our Relationship with God In the Old Testament we find that God and humans maintained a very cordial and direct relationship. Ever since the beginning of time, since God created Adam and Eve, God tried to maintain a personal relationship with them. It is found in the Bible that God used to take a walk with them every evening (Genesis Chapter 3 verse 8 says they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. ) You see, Adam and Eve were given strict orders from God that they should not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. But, Eve was tempted by the devil to eat from the tree, and being human, she committed the first sin in the history of mankind, and she urged Adam to do the same, and suddenly they became conscious of the good and the bad. Thus in today s age, when the world is full of sin and wrong doings, temptations are right around the corner, it is very hard not to sin. But, when we sin we follow the footsteps of Adam and Eve, what do we do? We hide from God; we hide from Him hoping He wouldn t see us. But here is the thing, though our relationship with God may have changed, over time, His relationship with us is still the same, and it is so strong that we cannot hide from God. Maintaining a relationship with God is very important. He is waiting for us to open up our hearts for Him to enter into our hearts. He is calling your name hoping you would listen to Him. Let us think, to ourselves, are our headphones blocking out God s plea or the meek knock at the door of our heart? Are we spending most of the time surfing the Internet, instead of spending time with the Lord Jesus Christ? If so, it s high time we change the way we live. 2. Our Relationship with Each Other In Genesis Chapter 2, verse 18 it says, then the Lord said it is not good for the man to be alone, I will make him a helper as his partner. God does not want us to be alone, so He made each of us a partner, many friends, brothers and sisters and parents so that we would never have to be alone. In olden days, families were very closely knit to each other. In John chapter 15 verse 10, God wants you and I to love our neighbour as ourselves. Though, times have changed, God still wants us to live the life He has breathed into our nostrils, to love and to support. We live in a cyber-age where there are so many distracting entertainment media and we often forget to maintain our relationships with our fellow human beings. We are all so addicted to smartphones that even after we go to bed, we feel the need to scroll through our Instagram feed, chat on Facebook and watch videos on YouTube before we fall asleep. It s sad that we often forget to wish our family members goodnight after the family prayer. Today we wish our relative or friend with an /texting/posting on the facebook- even our neighbours. Just imagine that on our own birthday, we received a large number of such postings in our mobile or ipod, but our church Pastor or leader walks in to have a word of prayer, a neighbour walks in to say: Happy birthday or we receive a bunch of flowers from a far away 16 th year of publication 23

26 friend- do we not cherish these moments when we close our eyes to sleep on that night. And, I understand, we are all busy. But it does not mean you can stop loving your kin. God made other human beings for companionship. So, today when you go home, I want you to hug your mother, your father, your brothers and sisters, your children, and show and tell them you love them. Wait, there is more, we need to find the time to talk with them and laugh with them and cry with them. If you cannot live without social media, create a worship group on WhatsApp, a family prayer group on your phone. Just, do not forget to maintain a relationship with your family. Just food for your thoughts, would you not be happy when you receive a fragrant bouquet from a loved one or just a nice message from a friend? Yes, we would. We should think about it. 3. Our Relationship with Nature Psalm 23:1 He makes me lie down in green pastures. Psalm 96 verse Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult and everything in it! Then shall the trees of the forest sing for joy Job 12 : 7 & 8 But ask the beasts, and they will teach thee; the fowls of the air, and they will tell thee; or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee; and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. How long since anyone of us walked barefoot on wet grass? How long since we breathed fresh air or wet our feet by the beachside? The grass, the birds, the air and sea celebrate the glory of God. With time, we the younger generation have lost the time to hear the chirp of the birds once we open the curtains in the morning, we rarely can see the sparrows in our front yard or the electric wire, or the mynaa bird. Instead we switch on the alarm the previous night to wake up to the tune of the top 10 hits. Its time that each one of us start the day along with the noises of nature and sweet smell of flowers.coming to flowers, can we imagine a celebration of wedding without flowers. Its so amazing to see this holy church decorated with flowers on a wedding day! As people of Christian faith, we shall consciously be part of these celebrations- each one declares the Glory of God. There is evidence that the high tech cyber age developments are leaving behind toxic substances that invade our neighbourhood whether we are aware of it or not. This situation with cyber age wastes is not helping us follow the command of God to be a good steward of the planet earth. In Genesis chapter 2 verse 15 it says The God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and KEEP IT. So, let us make a commitment to be good stewards of the technological resources of the cyber age and keep our environment clean. This will honour God and at the same time help humans improve the quality of their surrounding environments and natural resources such as the water we drink and the air we breathe. In conclusion, let us not allow the cyber-age to take us away from God by alienating us from having a relationship with God, relationship with fellow humans and relationship with the nature. I would request each and every one here today to make a commitment to build our relationship with God, build our relationship with each other created by God, and build our relationship with the nature created by God. There is a One-Step process to get all these relationships straightened by giving the Lord Jesus Christ control over our relationships with God, relationships with fellow humans and relationships with the nature. Surrendering ourselves to the lordship of Jesus Christ by accepting Him as our saviour is the only way to keep us from perishing in this cyber-age, and establish a healthy relationship with God, His creations the mankind and the natural world. As the Bible says in John chapter 3 verses 16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that who so ever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. I earnestly pray that if anyone here today who does not know the Lord Jesus Christ as His or Her personal saviour will make Him Lord of his or her life before leaving this Sunday morning service. Only by establishing a relationship with God through His son Jesus Christ our efforts to establish healthy relationships with our God the father, our relationships with human beings you and I created by God and our relationship with God s creation the natural world will be successful. 34 THE BEAUTY OF FORGIVENESS Daniel Wellington Where can we find solitude? Where can we find a quiet place in the midst of the demands of this world? Jesus said, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place (Matt. 6:6). Sit quietly and remind yourself that you re in the presence of God. He is there with you, eager to meet with you. Many followers of Christ claim that they dedicate time for daily Bible reading and meditation, and find them to be essential in their walk of faith. This quiet time is a disconnection form external distractions in order to connect with God. Do they actually practise this? Jesus was once asked the question, Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? (Luke 18:18). The assumption is clear: Jesus is a good person; good people go to heaven; so how shall I be in the same group as He? Jesus reply is surprising why do you call me good? He asks. Good question. Why is He good? Jesus goes on to answer His own question No one is good but God alone. Now if we accept the common assumption that only the good go to heaven, and God alone is good, who on earth gets to go then? We know the answer is God alone. Then how can an earthling be deserving to go at all? It is not a question of being more good than bad just as to qualify for eternal life. Jesus defines goodness in terms of being like God. And on that basis, hardly anyone is to be found. However, the Gospel is good news. The Good News is that getting into heaven is first and foremost about forgiveness. Christians are assured entry to heaven not because they are just good, but because they have received forgiveness. Jesus came in to this world, primarily, to extend forgiveness to all of us for our sins. Good people will go to heaven. However, the path to goodness lies not in religious observances alone, but in being forgiven, and forgiving, granted to us by the strength of the Cross of Christ. You too will see the beauty of forgiveness in your heavenly Father s face when you cry out to Him, Father, I have sinned (Luke 15:18). Christians are forgiven for their sins, and are given goodness from Christ. God wants us all for Himself. He desires to be connected with us. He wants us to know CHURCH VOICE 32 January 2018

35 Him. How close are we to our spiritual family? Don t try to live the Christian life alone. Get involved with other believers. God has chosen us as His own, to be the members of his royal family and holy nation. We need each other in this Christian journey. We have all been like the son in the story of Prodigal Son, who had other plans for his life than what his father had for him. We have all run away from our heavenly Father (Rom.3: 10-12). But He welcomes us when we come to Him. Father, I have sinned (Luke 15:18). When God forgives, He removes the sin and restores the soul. Good stewards look for opportunities to pass along to others what they have received from the Lord. Those who are bent on doing evil would spare no efforts to oppress the righteous. Yet, as God s people, it is our duty and responsibility to pray for them for God s love, mercies and justice to prevail, and not ours, even as the Lord Jesus who prayed for the forgiveness of those who crucified Him. It is clearly taught through the solemn words of our savior that Christians who will not forgive others will not be heard when they ask for forgiveness. Unforgiveness in the heart of a Christian hinders the answer to his prayers. And David in that inspired fifty-first Psalm was led to write, My sin is ever before me. And the Savior in the Lord s Prayer teaches us, explicitly, that we ought to confess our sins daily, and ask for forgiveness. How blessed to be a peace-maker, with forgiveness toward brethren, even as God for Christ s sake hath forgiven you. Lord s Prayer is to be a daily prayer, for daily bread and daily needs, and to confess daily sins. And that indicates that every Christian, every day, ought to go about this important matter of seeing that all grudges are forgiven. But if you do not forgive, neither will you be forgiven. Therefore, we must forgive others and become transformed to be the children of God - cleansed and redeemed by the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. By God s grace, a Christian can so forgive that every memory brings not bitterness but a sweet sense of peace without any rancor whatsoever. Memorial Service of Mrs. Geetha J. Thomas organised by the Sub organisations of our Church 16 th year of publication 33

53 I WILL CLAIM THE PROMISES OF GOD Dr Segin Chandran K R Happy new year to all my loved ones at M.M Church. I write these words, as my mind urges me to tell you how blessed I am only because I am one among the chosen and blessed children of GOD. I am blessed, chosen, adopted, accepted, redeemed and forgiven. The Lord is a good refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him. There are times in our lives when we beghis pardon and ask for His mercy. Though we repeat our mistakes, our Heavenly Father is kind enough to shower his grace and blessings again and again without reluctance. A great promise from Lord Jesus Christ, we have heard these verses many times: and to grey hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save. Isaiah 46:4 Before we pray, we need to ask our self, Am I eligible to be called His child? The Bible clearly tell us how to be a good son or daughter of GOD: If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you John 15:7 16 th year of publication 51

54 Reading his words and remembering his promises will strengthen you and raise you to greater heights than you never dreamed of. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. Psalms 91:11 See what kind of love the Father has given to us that we should be called children of God; and so we are. 1 John 3:1 I will never leave you, nor forsake you. Hebrew 13:5 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 The Bible is packed with the promises of God. They are incredibly important for us as they help to keep us grounded and give us hope in troubled times. Let s go through a few of his promises to his children: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; and when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned; and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your savior. Isaiah 43:1-3 My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. 2.Corinthians 12:9 He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and a buckler. Psalms 91:4 God doesn t call the qualified. He qualifies the called. God reveals his plan for you and me. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. Psalms 91:15 Hope begins with a faithful God and His promises for today. Begin a relationship with Him. The stars may fall but God s promises will stand and be fulfilled. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. John 14:2 Let s wait for his arrival as he promised with cleansed minds and hearts. AMEN CHURCH VOICE 52 January 2018

55 NOEL FIESTA 2017 A FESTIVAL OF HAPPY HARVEST AND ABUNDANT THANKSGIVING A LOOK BACK Harvest festival is a celebration of food and crops grown on the homeland. The tradition of celebrating Harvest festival in our Church began as an Ingathering service sale on October 1 st, A long-established custom that has been passed on from generation to generation, the festival has grown through the years, but yet remains the most intimate and cherished gathering that happens once a year in our church during Christmas season. Harvest festival reminds the congregation of all the good things God gives them. It shows the love of Christ in action and how we can transform people s lives in many ways. The task of organising this year s harvest festival was a commitment obliged to carry out a course of action, to try harder and to look for solutions when faced with obstacles. But given the limitations of time and efforts taken for promotions, combined with the uncertainty of future, it was simply not feasible to do as desired. However, what a privilege the Lord had showered upon us to be a part of the grand celebration! The initial challenge was to find out a group of motivated leaders, who would give up their soul toward this goal, who has the ability to take decisions and to carry them out, who would recommend innovative ideas and improvements and willing to readily adapt to the changing demands. Apart from the Presbyters and office bearers, an Organising committee was established with Adv. Biju Immanuel, Mr. Edward John J., Dr. Justin Jose, Mr. Shajimon K.L. as Convenors; and Mr. Aji Vinodh Roy, Mr. Alen J. Thomas, Mr. Aneesh Kumar, Mrs. Angeline Joshua, Dr. Chandini Sam, Mrs. Grace Ammal V., Er. Joshua Jayaseelan, Er. Joy H. Jones, Mrs. Pearline Solomon, Mr. Pradeeep Ghosh, Mr. Rajiv A. Livingstone, Mr. Sajikumar Johnson, Er. Sally, Mrs. Santhi Nizzi Sunil and Mrs. Sophy Henselena as Joint Convenors. We met on several occasions to discuss and plan the event. The ultimate goal of the celebration was to encourage the participation of church members and to facilitate the smooth functioning of activity setting. We all wanted the 100 years tradition that we are really proud of to not only be continued but to be handed over to the younger generation with the utmost care and sanctity also. A beautiful Brochure was designed emphasizing the glimpses of yester years of harvest festival from church history, and it was decided to distribute with a special cash cover for donation, along with the Church Voice. Special announcements were made by the General Convenor on all services appealing for the active participation of the church members. The Secretaries of the sub organisations were given requests to put up stalls for the event. The preparations began by Harvest- Festival day eve, with prayers and blessings by Rev. Rohan and Mr. Issaac Joseph, a veteran organiser, all equipped to receive the articles for Lelam. Various articles brought by the church members for auction such as paintings, flowering plants, saplings, fruits, vegetables, 16 th year of publication 53

56 food items, dress materials, bags, selfharvested poultry and fish were very interesting. We witnessed the happiness, excitement, thankfulness and contentment of the underprivileged children at Wills Boarding Home when they were gifted with biriyani coupons and gift coupons by Dr. Albert Babuji Wills and Dr. Rani Albert. The eve was concluded by a fellowship dinner. On 9 th December 2017, at 9:00 a.m., the Harvest Festival was inaugurated by our Presbyter in charge Rev. D.Jacob. The first bid was initiated by Mr. Shaw Sumanam. WhatsApp bidding, which was introduced by Mr. Suresh Devarajan for facilitating the participation of out-of-station members, played a major role. Family stalls were put up by Dr. Priya Lal, Mrs. Helan Baby, Mrs. Vimala Alex, Mrs. Angel Justin Jose, Mrs. Pearline Soloman, Er. Asha Jose, Mrs. Grace Ammal, Mrs. Shanti Nizzi Sunil, Mrs. Lilly Bai, Er. Huygeen Alwyn & Dr. Chandini Sam. Mrs. Sophy Henselena, Mrs. Jothi Roberts, Dr. Geetha Robinson, Dr. Sheeja Bobby, Er. Jose H. Jones, Er. Jerry Daniel,Mr. Suresh Devarajan & Er. Priya Joy sponsored various stalls. Mrs. Sobha Pradeep, Mr. Pradeep Ghosh, Mr. Baburaj, Mrs. Leyn Glana, Mrs. Sheeja Anil, Mr. Anil Kumar, Mrs. Anitha Kingsley, Mrs.Jiji Johny & Mrs. Soumya Alex worked tirelessly to run the live stalls. The participation of the church members was beyond words. We all enjoyed the delicious homemade delicacies, Thattukada, Icecreams, kappa fish curry, live cutlets, live chicken fry, cakes and wine, sandwiches, payasam, ilayappam, cool drinks and the all-time favourite refreshing drinks Akkaani and Nonku. Children contributed by conducting the Cake and Pastry stall, Fancy stall and a game zone which attracted young members. Fresh farm-grown mushrooms and mushroom dishes were a rare attraction of the event. There was plenty to go round, and we enjoyed fellowship and friendship together. Cash coupon counters were managed by Prof. Jose Davidson, Mrs. Sophy Henselana, Dr. Chandini Sam, Adv. Sagunaraj and Mrs. Girly Ansalam. The biriyani arranged by convenor Mr. Edward John was extremely delicious, appealing and plentiful. The auction was led by Rev. Vijayadas, Er. Lal and Dr. Justin Jose. The Accounts team consisted of Er. Jose H. Jones, Er. Joy H. Jones, Adv. Biju Immanuel and Mr. Darwin. The Harvest festival continued to the following Sunday after the Malayalam service. A fellowship breakfast was arranged for the church members. A large number of people attended and actively participated in the Lelam. Live stalls were set up where people hustled and jostled joyfully. The Lelam continued till 3:00 p.m. Lucky dip contest was led by convenor Mr. Shajimon K. L. and the prizes were distributed by Jacob Achan. Rev. Jacob concluded the event with prayers and benediction. I thank God Almighty for enabling us to conduct the Harvest festival extremely well. I extend my humble gratitude towards all who supported and participated in making this a success. The sales helped us to collect Rs.3,80,000, which will be utilised for the treatment and follow up of patients suffering from stroke, arthritis, cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, etc. May God Almighty bless each one of us who participated in the harvest festival with immense and countless blessings.
