3 Williamsburg Christian Reformed Church April 29, 2018 page 2 Sunday Evening Church History Discussion Tonight we will be looking at the Road to the Reformation. Naturally, the Reformation didn't just happen overnight. There were many people prior to Martin Luther who sought to reform the church of the unbiblical practices such as indulgences (buying your ticket into heaven). We are forever indebted to men like John Wycliffe and John Hus, so these are two of the people we'll be learning more about tonight. Prayer Ministry: Prayer requests for the congregational prayer can be passed on to the pastor through phone call, or text, as well as coming to the Council room just before the service. A prayer team continues to meet in the prayer room before the service. Prayer Items: We pray for -those who are affected by the tragic event in Toronto -countries like Nicaragua, Syria and Uganda with civil strife -favorable weather for the crops to get planted -the search committee as they do their work In our Classis we pray for: Ministry to Seafarers, Montreal, Chaplin MichelleDePooter In South Dundas we pray for: Iroquois - Matilda United Church Pastoral Charge Rev. Their vision is to see girls around the world actively and enthusiastically expressing love for God and others - girls equipped, motivated, and passionately engaged in living out their faiths. GEMS girls clubs are offered in local churches and Christian organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada, and their mission is to bring girls everywhere into a living, dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ. May 6 - Diaconal Ministries - Operation Manna working under the banner of diaconal Ministries Canada, provides funding and consultation in support of local community ministries. It provides funds and services to churches and organizations that are active in sustainable community development. This development includes youth centres, job-readiness training, community outreach coordinators, crisis pregnancy centres, and collective kitchens. May 13 - Back to God Hour Ministries For more than 70 years, Back to God Ministries International has claimed media to fulfill Christ s Great Commission to preach the Gospel and disciple believers. As the media ministry of the Christian Reformed Church of North America, Back to God Ministries Internation May 20 - Resonate Gobal Mission / Pentecost Formed by the joining of Christian Reformed Home Missions and Christian Reformed World Missions, Resonate Global Mission, trains missional leaders, guides new churches, and forges partnerships to proclaim and live out the good news of Jesus Christ worldwide. Resonate will continue the good work of Home Missions and World Missions. For more than a century, these two agencies have been introducing people to Christ in North America and around the world. That means continuing partnerships with churches in the United States and Canada to plant churches, do campus ministry, train and equip pastors, and develop future leaders. Additionally, it means sending missionaries overseas, proclaiming the Gospel, and forging lasting partnerships.

4 page 3 Williamsburg Christian Reformed Church April 29, 2018 Results of Officebearer Elections The following individuals were elected as officebearers as a result of the voting that occurred after the morning service on April 22, 2018: To the office of Elder: Harold Douma, Dan Schuler, and Ype VanderVeen. To the office of Deacon: Ed DeJong Council Notes (April 2018) - A letter was received from the Byker family expressing respect and understanding for how our church council handled Corrie Byker's funeral and the request to have John Noordhof officiate. - Recently, an article in the Banner discussed the question of whether a minister should be paid over and above their salary to perform a funeral. Council decided to clarify its position on this in our funeral policy. Given that many of the fees associated with a funeral are payable directly to the funeral home, council requested that the Marsden McLaughlin Funeral Home in Williamsburg not list a minister s fee as an expense for members of Williamsburg CRC. Even though an honorarium may be offered to the minister, it is strictly at the discretion of the family. However, the family should provide an honorarium to the musician, sound coordinator, and video coordinator (whoever is volunteering at the service). - The Search Committee provided an update that they have been very encouraged by the search process so far. To date, there have been 14 candidates under review. Several names for consideration were recommended to us. Several more names reached out directly to our church. After much discussion, that list has been refined to three possible candidates. The committee will be making visits to each of these candidates soon. We pray that God will continue to bless the process as we try to find the individual he has in mind for us. - Council formally accepted the membership transfer request of Steven Doesburg from Community CRC (Dixon's Corners) to Williamsburg CRC. - The CRC in Canada has recently been promoting the use of The Bridge App, specifically designed by the CRC for Canadian churches. Council is looking into it. If you would like to know more, check out: R Faith in Christ is not just a one-time choice but a lifetime challenge. This year the youth group will be organizing a yard sale at the church (8am-2pm) and so anyone who would like to donate items (including baked goods) please contact Pastor Joe (call, or text ). They will need to be at the church by Friday night. All profits that are raised will go towards our weekend youth (All Ontario Youth Convention and Fall Retreat).
