This morning we remember the Protestant Reformation that occurred 500 years ago. We remember this event with thanksgiving since the Reformers re-directed the church back to the gospel. Pastor Joe is leading this service with a specific focus on Solus Christus - "Christ Alone." Resonate will continue the good work of Home Missions and World Missions. For more than a century, these two agencies have been introducing people to Christ in North America and around the world. That means continuing partnerships with churches in the United States and Canada to plant churches, do campus ministry, train and equip pastors, and develop future leaders. November 4 - World Hunger Campaign - World Renew Next week is World Hunger Sunday - In communities where poverty is prevalent, men, women, and children often struggle to grow enough food, lack access to clean water, fight to rebuild after a disaster, and experience injustice. Through your Peter Fish contributions, you are helping those in need gain new skills and knowledge to improve their lives. November 11 - World Renew Disaster Relief When disasters strike, World Renew (Disaster Relief) responds to the urgent needs that arise. In North America, this often includes clearing debris, assessing needs, training local leaders, and repairing and rebuilding damaged homes. Internationally, it includes providing and distributing emergency food, water, shelter, and other supplies. It also often involves reconstruction of homes and livelihoods. World Renew s ability to respond to disaster is enhanced and greatly supported by a number of strategic partnerships and alliances. November18 - Ottawa Chr. Ref. Campus Chaplaincy The Ottawa Christian Reformed Campus Chaplaincy is working to establish a generous space for faith within the University of Ottawa. We are working to find the places where faith intersects with learning and do so through an open chaplaincy office, meeting with student groups for various events and topics, and showing up in classrooms and at events in order to bring a Christian faith presence and perspective into the life of the University. The hope and dream is to see an avenue of Christian worldview development among students that serves God and benefits the community life of the University. 5 Williamsburg Christian Reformed Church October 28, 2018 page 4 Pastor Josh Tuininga: Next Sunday, November 4, the congregation will vote after the morning worship service whether to call Pastor Josh Tuininga as a minister of the Word and Sacrament in our congregation. Signed proxy votes will be accepted and if 75% of the votes are in favour, a call will be extended to him. In your mailboxes you will find a summary of the discussion which was held with him and his wife last Saturday afternoon. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call a member of the Search Committee or a member of council. The Canadian National Gathering is a meeting of interested members of Canadian Christian Reformed Churches to strategically celebrate, discern and envision bold next steps for the CRC in Canada. This gathering takes place every three years and will take place in Edmonton from May Nominations from our council are due to the stated clerk of classis by Oct. 31, If this gathering interests you, please contact Jack VG asap. PARCELS FOR SEAFARERS: This is an very important part of the Ministry to Seafarers in Montreal. Bibles are distributed along with the parcels giving them an opportunity to explain why we celebrate Christmas and brings joy to the lives of the men who spend months on ships away from their families. A box of simple gifts has a great impact! Please leave your gifts in the front lobby and the deacons will arrange for them to be brought to Montreal in early December. To ensure that parcels are of similar value, we ask that you follow the following guidelines as closely as possible: Fill a shoe box (or similarly sized box - Kleenex boxes are good too) completely. It is better to have a small full box than a half empty big box. Enclose a Christmas card with a personal note and your name and address (if you re comfortable doing so). Some of those who receive these gifts like to acknowledge them. Parcel contents: Enclose one or more of the following: scarf, toque, gloves, socks, toothbrush and toothpaste, calendar, packaged candy, aftershave lotion, face cloth, playing cards, soap, nail clipper, picture frame (no glass), a small souvenir of Canada etc. (Please Note: Dollar store gloves and hats are totally acceptable - the seafarers don't wear them for work or play but rather when they are here, and other cold cities, they use them to just keep warm when off ship. Most seafarers find our climate VERY cold!) We no longer have a need of items for women. Mark your gift with a B or C in the top right-hand corner of each parcel: B = $15 - $20; C = $20 - $25. We ask you to do this so that we can give the richer gifts to the less fortunate seafarers. (We sometimes receive parcels that are poorly wrapped or that contain used items that should not be used as a gift. Please, give of your best, not of what you no longer want or need.)

6 page 5 Sermon Notes Williamsburg Christian Reformed Church October 28, 2018 GEMS, CADETS AND YOUTH Trick or Canning OCT. 31 Once again all GEMS, Cadets and youth are invited to bless our community with our annual Halloween Night food drive! We'll meet in Morrisburg at 5:30pm and team up with Dixons young people to go door to door and collect non-perishable food items until about 8pm. Last year we were able to collect over 3000lbs! If you have any questions, talk to Pastor Joe. Operation Christmas Child boxes are available in the church lobby. The shoe box gifts will be delivered to needy children in Central America, Western Africa, and Europe. The due date for filled boxes is Sunday, November 4. Thank you. Contact person: Margaret Westervelt Redeemer Christian High School will host our annual Grade 7&8 Day on Wednesday, November 7 from 10 a.m. to approximately 1:45 p.m. at the school. This day is designed to introduce senior elementary students to life at Redeemer. Your child will have a chance to experience some high school classes, participate in our Chapel, enjoy a complimentary pizza lunch, and have some fun getting to know us.
