1 Striving to know, love, and serve God in all others. The message of the Kingdom that the disciples brought to the people is one of repentance. This is a difficult word for most of us. It demands that the grace we invest our lives in be costly to us as it was for God. If grace cost the Son of God his life, shouldn t it cost us the same? God does not accept half-measures. He, instead, demands all. The old self, the natural self must be thrown off for us to reach our God potential. A thistle cannot produce a fig nor can a field of grass produce wheat. For either of these things to happen, the nature of the thistle and the field have to change; the field must be plowed up and replaced with something that can nourish the life of the wheat. It is the same with us. The life we share is only ours inasmuch as it is His. There is no unity outside of this. Baptized in Christ; confirmed by the Spirit of Christ; nourished by Christ in Word and Sacrament in these profound ways we are his. This makes us one. We must throw off the old self, we must repent, to live his life and we do so, then, together. In the life we share many of us will resist this. Many of us will become comfortable with the way things are and forget that Christ is always demanding more, so that we can receive more and so our joy may be completed in his mercy and love. In order to receive the riches of the promises of Christ we must pay for them by dying over and over again to self that he may reign in his Kingdom in our hearts. Pastor Note: This week, we met with the designer for the painting of St. Mary s Church. We were given breathtakingly beautiful renderings of the possibilities. This designer named Troy Simmons is truly gifted at respecting the history of the church and the theology of worship. I look forward to sharing more with you soon. At this point the diocese is reviewing all this. Also, I m posting a link to an article on our Facebook and webpage that is the first of many regarding the placement of the tabernacle. These first articles are from the Bishop s office and were offered as resources to me and us. Please make note of paragraph 31 it explains to what we ought to show reverence during the liturgy. This is important we remember that the altar and the tabernacle are not fighting one another! If you are a liturgical minister of any kind this will be especially illuminating. Many thanks for all that you do to shine his light. You are blessed, wonderful, and beautiful people! Your servant in Our Blessed Lord, Fr. Michael St. Mary s Church 95 North Main Street Canandaigua, NY July 15, 2018 St. Bridget s Church 15 Church Street Bloomfield, NY 14469

Instead he provides them with the one essential Resource. He gives them his authority to preach repentance, to cast out demons, to cure the sick. He also gives them each other, for they are not sent out alone but in partnership two by two. The gift of his authority and the gift of one another is essentially the gift of Jesus himself. So gifted, disciples cannot fail. Connecting the Gospel to the First Reading: Amos was taken away from shepherding his flock and sent by God to prophesy. The Twelve were called and sent forth by Jesus to continue his mission of salvation. Both Amos and the Twelve were sent out on the authority of divine commission. So are we. to experience: We tend to live and work as if everything depends upon us. While we need to be realistic and practical about our role, we cannot lose sight of the One on whom we ultimately depend Jesus who sends us forth to continue his own saving mission. Readings for the Week of July 15, 2018 Sunday: Am 7:12-15/Ps 85:9-10, 11-12, [8]/Eph 1:3-14 or 1:3-10/Mk 6:7-13 Monday: Is 1:10-17/Ps 50:8-9, 16bc-17, 21 and 23 [23b]/ Mt 10:34--11:1 Tuesday: Is 7:1-9/Ps 48:2-3a, 3b-4, 5-6, 7-8 [cf. 9d]/Mt 11:20-24 Wednesday: Is 10:5-7, 13b-16/Ps 94:5-6, 7-8, 9-10, [14a]/Mt 11:25-27 Thursday: Is 26:7-9, 12, 16-19/Ps 102:13-14ab and 15, 16-18, [20b]/Mt 11:28-30 Friday: Is 38:1-6, 21-22, 7-8/Is 38:10, 11, 12abcd, 16 [cf. 17b]/Mt 12:1-8 Saturday: Mi 2:1-5/Ps 10:1-2, 3-4, 7-8, 14 [12b]/Mt 12:14-21 Next Sunday: Jer 23:1-6/Ps 23:1-3, 3-4, 5, 6 [1]/Eph 2:13-18/Mk 6:30-34 Sharing the Gospel In today's Gospel reading, Jesus prepared his disciples for a mission trip, where they would help the people in area towns and teach them about God. Before they left, Jesus asked his disciples to travel light-they were to bring no food or clothes or money. They could not survive without God's help. Jesus also asked them to heal people. They could not heal without God's power, either. God provided everything they needed for their mission trip. Prayer Dear God, help me always to remember that it is your power that turns people's lives around. Amen. St. Benedict Parish Service Camp 2018 Living Out Discipleship through Stewardship Stewardship refers to care. Discipleship refers to whom we belong. We are servants because we are His. This is the core of Christian life. Today is the first day of our weeklong Service Camp. Please keep the teens and the volunteers in your prayers as they spend this week serving God in others.

On Sunday, July 8 we celebrated our patronal Saint Benedict s feast day. We welcomed our new pastoral associate, Jeanette Williams Housecamp (pictured top left), enjoyed a great chicken barbeque, learned more about new ministries of Family Promise and Stephen Ministry, which will begin in the parish this fall, as well as received updates on our Kalama Project, Migrant Ministry, and Social Ministry. We enjoyed our guest, Rosalie Krajci, from Mount Savior Monastery in Elmira who provided insights on the Benedictine way of living. And a special display, The Ladder of Humility based on the Rule written by St. Benedict, drew much attention and interest.

The Knights of Columbus supports the annual U.S. Wounded Warriors to Lourdes ; a spiritual journey dedicated to individual healing and a more peaceful world. In collaboration with the Archdiocese for the Military Services, these warriors join thousands of international military pilgrims for the annual pilgrimage to the French Marian shrine to offer peace to wounded, ill and injured. In May, more than 200 active and retired U.S. military personnel took part in the annual journey. This year s journey was timed to coincide with the 60th annual International Military Pilgrimage (PMI), and this year marked the 100th anniversary of the conclusion of World War I. During that conflict, the Knights of Columbus established a system of Army Huts in America and Europe that provided social, recreational and spiritual resources for Allied servicemen, For more information about the mission of the Knights of Columbus, please see the Council s monthly newsletters on the parish website, or contact Brian Moser at (585) or bmoser2012@gmail.com.
