4 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED To Serve God 34 th Annual Special Needs Day Sat. June 22, 2013 Rain or Shine For the past thirty-three years St. Timothy Parish has hosted an annual Special Needs Day to honor persons with disabilities. This day brings together those with special needs, their families, chaperones and parishioners to spend time enjoying each other in faith and fellowship. St. Timothy has always been blessed with help from many volunteers and contributors to make this day a success. Please consider offering your time, talent or treasure for this fun-filled event devoted to celebrating our guests with special needs. Sign ups are in the Church foyer area (gathering space). For questions: specialneedsday@gmail.com or call: Attention Altar Servers, Children s Choir and Youth Ensemble Members Our annual outing to Canobie Lake Park will be on Sunday, June 23, We will leave from church at 11am and return by 7pm. An informational flyer and permission form were recently ed to all members. If you did not receive the information, please contact Colleen or Bonnie in the office. All those wishing to attend the trip on June 23 must return their permission form and payment by Monday, June 10. We hope many of you will be able to join us! Calling ALL Students in Religious Education or YFM: We need your help! As part of our Mass on June 15 celebrating the 50 th anniversary of our parish, we would like to invite as many students as possible to write a prayer intention to be included at that Mass. Intentions will be written on pieces of ribbon and then tied together to represent all of the prayers of the children of the parish. We would encourage children to write prayers that thank God for some blessing they have received as a result of being members of this parish, or some blessing that they would like to ask God to grant to our parish as we continue on our journey of faith together. Materials will be available in the gathering space and in the Church Hall after Mass during this weekend June 8/9 or during the week in the parish office. We hope that many, many students will participate in this project! Any questions? Contact Colleen Campion, Kathy MacKenzie or Leah Ramsdell in the Church office. A Message From Our Pastor Dear friends- These last two weeks are very busy as we prepare for the closing Mass for our 50 th year anniversary. As you know, that Mass will be celebrated by Cardinal O Malley with a number of the priests who served here at St. Timothy s in the past as con-celebrants. The Mass will be at 4:30 on Saturday June 15 followed by a reception on the church lawn. It should be a wonderful occasion and a great finish to what has been a wonderful year of celebration made possible by the hard work of so many wonderful volunteers. Please plan to be with us so that we can end this year of celebration on a high note. For the past 33 years our parish has held a Special Needs Day. This is a day to honor individuals with disabilities, to host them on our beautiful parish grounds, and to provide a little respite for their family members and care givers. If you speak with anyone We are excited to host this year's walk at a NEW, spacious location featuring covered picnic areas and a nice view! who has volunteered to help with this day, I m confident that they would tell you that they received much more in return than they gave. This year our day will be held on Saturday, June 22. On the large bulletin board in the gathering space here in church you will find a list of ways you can be of help. As they say, many hands make light work, so the more individuals who give of their time, treasure, or talent the more successful this day is. If you have questions about the day you are welcome to specialneedsday@gmail.com or call Linda at After over twenty years of working here at the parish (and putting up with me for more than 13 years), Kathy Tinson has decided to take a well earned retirement. So many of you know Kathy as that friendly voice on the phone when you call the office or the person who sets up Masses, puts together the bulletin, takes care of registrations for Religious Education classes, among so many other activities far too numerous to spell out in detail. As far as I am concerned, one of the most important features of a person who occupies Kathy s position the first person you come into contact with when you are new to the parish-needs to be a welcoming presence. We thank Kathy for being that presence and we wish her well as retirement gives her the chance to spend more time with her family and pursue other interests. Kathy s last official day will be June 28 th, but she has promised to come in one day each week while we transition to a new parish secretary. Since Kathy and her husband Sid are parishioners, we will continue to see them at church and other parish functions, but we do wish them all the best in this new phase of their lives. Please join us for a day of great food, socializing, information sharing and raising awareness about epilepsy!! To register as an individual or a team, please visit Fr. Culloty
5 St. Timothy Book Group Summer often provides more time for relaxing hobbies such as reading. In case you are looking for some good books to read, here is the list of books our group will be reading through the summer and into the Fall. June 24: Defending Jacob by William Landay July 29: The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver August 26; All Standing: The Remarkable Story of the Jeanie Johnston: The Legendary Irish Famine Ship by Kathryn Miles (It wins the prize for the longest title of any books our group has read!) September 30: The Parish Wife: A Novel by Paula McLain Our book group meetings are always on a drop-in basis, so all parishioners who have read the book are invited and encouraged to attend. We are always happy to see new faces and hear new perspectives! Join us! Saturday, June 15 6th Annual Moyamoya Fundraiser One of our young parishioners, Justin Doo who is a Walpole resident, was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease ( MMD ) in March 2007 when he was just seven years old, following periods of increasingly severe headaches and numbness in his tongue, arms and legs. MMD is a progressive narrowing of the arteries to the brain, which restricts blood flow to the brain, oftentimes resulting in TIAs (transient ischemic attacks or mini-strokes) or even worse, a stroke. This rare disease affects only one in 2,000,000 people, with symptoms usually occurring at around age seven. The only option is brain surgery, which Justin bravely endured for eight hours in April 2007 at Children s Hospital-Boston at the hands of Dr. Michael Scott. Dr. Scott is one of the few doctors in the world who is most knowledgeable regarding this rare disease. In support of Justin and MMD, his family will be holding their 6 th annual MMD fundraiser to raise funds for vital research of disease. The event will take place on Saturday, June 15 at 3 Muskett Lane, Walpole, from 9-3 and will include a car wash, obstacle course, dunk tank and raffle. The 2 nd annual 3v3 Basketball Tournament for kids in grades 3-8 (time is depending on grade) and adults (7pm-10pm). Please visit their website for more information. All money raised will be donated for MMD research conducted at Boston Children s Hospital. The money raised will help Justin and others like him who will always have MMD. Raising awareness of MMD and fundraising is all the family can do to help their son. Justin and his family understand all too well the value of life and how one day, everything can change with a phone call. Congratulations Graduates!! To all our College and High School Graduates, congratulations and best of luck! The Triumph Movie is Coming to Norwood! On June 24th at the Norwood Theatre, the Triumph Movie will be shown.
