Anyone interested in learning more about what it means to become a Catholic Christian, should contact the parish office. Baptism The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated at scheduled Liturgies. Parishioners who are expecting a child should contact the office at least two months in advance, or as soon as possible to make arrangements and meet with the Baptismal Preparation Team. Reconciliation Also known as penance or confession, the Sacrament of Penance is regularly available every Saturday at 3:30pm in the church. Individual appointments may also be made with one of the priests. The Sacrament of Penance is celebrated communally during the seasons of Advent and Lent. Marriage Engaged parishioners who are interested in being married at St. Timothy Parish must contact one of the priests at least six months in advance. Call the office regarding Marriage Preparation classes. Sacrament of the Sick Praying for healing in body, mind and soul has always been a part of the Church s ministry to those who are ill. Anyone who is seriously ill or anticipating hospitalization, may celebrate the Sacrament on Saturdays following the 9am Mass, or upon request. Devotion/Prayer Groups Rosary is said Monday through Saturday prior to morning Mass. Guild of St. Timothy The Guild normally meets the first Tuesday of the month, Oct. -May. Rosary begins at 7:30pm (Church); Program at 8pm in the Church Hall. New Jerusalem Charismatic Prayer Group meets on Thursday from 7:30-9pm. All are welcome!

TIMOTHY PARISH NORWOOD, WALPOLE, WESTWOOD FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT NOVEMBER 29, 2009 PARISH NURSE NEWS Visits to the Sick and Homebound If you or a family member are unable to come to church, due to illness, disability or aging, and would like to have a visitor from St. Timothy s, please call the Parish Nurse Office. Visitors are available to come to your home or nursing home, to bring the Eucharist, and be a connection to St. Timothy s. Alzheimer s Caregiver Support Group The Alzheimer s Caregiver Support Group is open to people caring for a loved one with Alzheimer s Disease or a related dementia. By sharing information and supporting each other, many caregivers feel empowered and less burdened by their caregiving responsibilities. The December meetings will be on: Tuesday, Dec. 8 th from 10:00am- 11:30am Tuesday, Dec. 15 th from 6:30pm- 8:00pm Meetings are held in Ruocco Rooms 5 and 6. Please call the Parish Nurse Office if you plan to attend, , ext. 34. Blood Pressure Clinic The monthly blood pressure clinic will be held next weekend on Friday, Dec. 4 th and Sunday, Dec. 6 th after all the morning Masses. GIVING TREE PROJECT Our Annual Giving Tree Project will run from November 15th to December 13th. The Giving Tree is to assist people or families who are in need. If you know someone with a particular need, please call Kathy at or Betty at , so that we may include them. Please place gifts under the tree in our Gathering Space beginning November 29th. Spiritual Life Center Event There is a wonderful event coming up at Betania II Spiritual Life Center, Medway, MA on Saturday, December 5th from 12noon until 2:30pm. It is called PREPARING FOR THE BIRTH OF JESUS. This is a family event and there is no charge, although preregistration is required. Christmas Wreath Sale Boy Scout Troop 49 will hold their annual Christmas Wreath Sale after all Masses on Nov 28th and 29th at St. Catherine s & St. Timothy s. Wreaths are $14.00 each and all proceeds go directly to the troop to help defray costs. ST FRANCIS HOUSE CLOTHING DRIVE Francis House Clothing Drive will take place November 29-December 4. Clothes will be picked up on Dec. 4th by 10am. Please leave clothes in bags, or hangers, at the back of the church hall. An Evening With John Polce You are invited to an evening of song and prayer with John Polce, a Christian musician and song writer, on Thursday, December 3rd at 7:30pm at St. Timothy s Parish Hall. What a great way to prepare for Christmas! All are welcome. High School Placement Test Marian High School, Framingham will administer the High School Placement Test on Saturday, December 12 from 8:00am - 11:00am. Students in the 8 th grade can be registered for this test on Mondays-Fridays between 8:00am - 3:00pm. Any questions, call Ext Advent Bible Retreat On December 1-3 at St. Margaret Mary Parish in Westwood, prepare to welcome Jesus more fully into your life on the Feast of Christmas. You will meet some of the key figures of the Advent Season. The Retreat is offered two times each day, 10am-12pm and a repeat session from 7 to 9pm. The facilitator is David Thorp. 4 November 29, 2009 Epiphany Celebration Our 3 rd annual Epiphany Celebration will take place on Friday, January 8, We are looking for sheep, angels, entourage followers, and actors of all ages, as well as behind the scenes help! Rehearsals will be on Sunday afternoons December 6, 13, and 20 th and January 3 rd from 2:00-3:30 pm. Sign up sheets are available in the back of the Church, or us at music@sttim.net. This is a wonderful intergenerational parish-wide celebration. Come and be a part of the fun! Elizabeth Seton Academy Mark your calendars for the Elizabeth Seton Academy Christmas Party on December 4, Joining us this year will be the Phyllis Fallon and Friends jazz band and the new ESA choir. 5 November 29, 2009 Celebrating Advent Advent has a twofold character: as a season to prepare for Christmas when Christ s first coming to us is remembered; as a season when that remembrance directs the mind and heart to wait Christ s Second Coming at the end of time. Advent is thus a period for devout and joyful expectation. General Norms for the Liturgical Year, #39 During the season of Advent, we are called to remember that Christ, the Light of the World, became Man and that he will come again at the end of the World. Our liturgy reflects this mood of quiet expectation in several ways: purple is used for vestments; decorations are minimal; the lighting is darker due to the length and darkness of our days; the Gloria is not sung or recited. As we recall Christ s coming in history and await with joy his second coming, we are also called to remember that Christ is not absent from us at this time. Christ is Emmanuel, God with us, today and always. This Advent we offer to you a few tools to help you celebrate the season more fully throughout the week. The use of the Advent Wreath is one way we recall the theme of light and hope in this season and it is well suited to use in the home as part of the family s evening meal prayer. Advent Candles will be available for purchase this week after all Masses. The proceeds of the sale of these candles will offset the cost of the 60 Thanksgiving baskets that our parish will provide to families in need this year. Advent Wreath prayer sheets for use in the home will be provided to all at no cost. In addition, we have a limited number of Little Blue Books available at no cost. These prayer books offer a brief reflection based on Scripture for each day of Advent and are a wonderful resource to help you enter into the prayer of this season as we prepare our hearts to celebrate fully the feast of Christmas. The advent candles, advent wreath prayer sheets, and the Advent Little Blue Books will all be available in the gathering space as you leave Mass this weekend.
