4 PROMISES Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord, Today s liturgy is full of promises. The reading from Genesis promises a final triumph over the power of sin and a return to a new creation. The reading from Second Corinthians promises that all who follow Christ will have to struggle. It also promises, however, that we can persevere if we but recognize that Christ is within us, renewing us daily, and giving us the courage and the strength we need to endure. The Gospel promises that doing God s will makes us family with Jesus, who forgives all sin and triumphs over evil. Today might be a good day for us to make some promises as well. We can promise to stop kidding ourselves about our own tendencies to selfishness and sin. We can promise ourselves to believe - really believe - that while we are not sinless, we are forgiven. We can promise ourselves to combat evil and sin by acting as sisters and brothers not only to the Lord, but to one another as well. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Inc. ACTIONS Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak. - St. Anthony of Padua VOLUNTEERS NEEDED SIGN-UP SHEET FOR FATHER NICK S ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION ~ JUNE 23 ~ MASS AT 4:30PM DINNER TO FOLLOW IN THE CCD HALL If you can help, sign-up sheets are located at the church entrances or fill out the form below and drop in the collection basket or give to Father Nick or Louise. 5 BUTLER CATHOLIC SCHOOL GRADUATION Butler Catholic School graduation Mass and dinner celebration were held this week, June 5, in our parish. We congratulate all BCS graduates, especially parish family member Bridget Feczko. We ask our Lord to bless you all as you go into the future with faith, hope, and love. DIVINE MERCY HOLY HOUR We will have a Divine Mercy Holy Hour on Friday, June 15, at 6:00pm. There will be time for private prayer, adoration, Divine Mercy chaplet, and benediction. Please join us! STATIONS OF THE CROSS ~ WIENER ROAST We will have outdoor Stations of the Cross at 6:30pm on Friday, June 29. Immediately following Stations we will have a wiener roast at the fire pit and pavilion. All are welcome! AMERICAN FLAG This flag, which we honor and under which we serve, is the emblem of our unity, our power, our thought and purpose as a nation. It has no other character than that which we give it from generation to generation. - Woodrow Wilson ON MISSION FOR THE CHURCH ALIVE! Whoever will do the will of God is My Brother and Sister and Mother - It should be no surprise that we refer to the relationships within our church or parish in terms of family. The roots of faith run deep and the bonds that we form with those we pray and serve with grow stronger with each encounter. Saint Paul reminds us in his letter to the Romans, The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:16-17). By virtue of our baptism we share in the life of God and are welcomed into his family, the Church. Yet, this relationship of love is not passive or stagnant. We are called to live to the fullest the life and purpose the Spirit inspires within us. As we seek to form new relationships both within and among our parishes as part of the On Mission for The Church Alive! Initiative, may our efforts bring about the strengthening of our faith family. As we grow in love for Jesus and each other may we vibrantly fulfill our mission as sons and daughters of God and seek to do his will. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org.
