4 WELCOME TO BUTLER, AND BEING WELCOMED TO BUTLER! I am writing this note to you after having completed our first week and weekend in Butler. Thank you for welcoming us, for participating in the liturgies, for beginning to adjust however you had to so that you could celebrate God s presence in and amongst us at Mass! Each priest experienced healthy Mass attendance and a welcoming spirit throughout the community. It seems like we are off to a nice start. With fewer Masses, we certainly expected the pews to be fuller, which we hoped would bring a more vibrant community worship of God in thanksgiving for his goodness. And while the pews were fuller, things were not overwhelming, i.e. Christmas Eve 4pm Mass! While Fr. John, Fr. Dan, and I continue to settle in at our residence at St. Michael the Archangel rectory, we are also setting up our offices at St. Paul Church. The best way to contact us is to call the St. Paul office, or send us an . Our addresses are listed in the bulletin. Fr. Will continues to live at the St. Fidelis rectory and work out of the St. Fidelis office. The best way to contact him is to call the St. Fidelis office, or send him an . Fr. Will, our community chaplain, is establishing his schedule. He is primarily responsible for ministering to the greater Butler nursing homes, county prison, and Butler Memorial Hospital. Fr. Will is scheduled to celebrate Masses per the following: The first and second Tuesday of every month at the prison at 9am The third Tuesday of every month at Concordia at the Orchard nursing home at 2pm Every Wednesday (with exceptions) at Sunnyview nursing home at 7:15pm The first Thursday of every month at the Arbors apartments at 9:30am The second Thursday of every month at Lowrie Place at 2pm The third Thursday of every month at New Haven nursing home at 2pm Please feel free to contact Fr. Will with any questions you may have regarding his ministry as chaplain. When considering the geographic scope which includes six churches (and many buildings), Mass attendance, volunteers and staff members, in addition to the hospital, prison and nursing homes, as well as Butler Catholic School, our Butler grouping is one of the ten, perhaps even one of the five largest and diverse parish groupings of the fifty-seven in the diocese. We will do our very best to serve you in all aspects of community life and more! Please review our upcoming All Saints Day and All Souls Day liturgies which will be listed in our bulletins this weekend as well as on church websites. Stay tuned for our Advent schedule. In the weeks to come, you will hear from each member of our clergy team via the bulletin. I am sure you will cross paths with each of us as we continue to visit and celebrate Masses throughout all of Butler. If you have not had a chance to read any of my previous bulletin notes, you can find them listed on the Butler City Parishes website, butlercitycatholicparishes.org. Yours in Christ, Fr. Kevin
5 ST. ANDREW 50/50 RAFFLE We are having a 50/50 raffle from now until November 30, our Patron Saint Andrew feast day. Tickets are in books of 5. Each ticket costs $5.00. If you could possibly help, we would like each family to take a couple of books to either buy or sell. All tickets must be returned to the Rectory Office by Tuesday, November 27, at 4:00pm. Please join this effort. ALL SAINTS DAY This Thursday, November 1, is All Saints Day, a holy day of obligation. Catholics are obliged to attend Mass. See Mass schedule for the Vigil Mass and All Saints Day Mass in this bulletin. SHAWL ~ CRAFT MINISTRY Our Shawl~Craft Ministry will meet from 10:00am-noon on Tuesday, November 13, in the CCD Hall. Come, join the fun of making teddy bears and shawls for our newly baptized babies, and shawls and tote bags for our shut-ins. All are welcome. ON MISSION FOR THE CHURCH ALIVE! Jesus Is Calling You - In today s Gospel, Jesus calls for the blind man, Bartimaeus, that he might come to him and be healed. Saint Mark relates to us very vividly that Bartimaeus, threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus, and that his sight was restored because of his faith and trust in God. Of course, we see many instances in the Gospels of Jesus calling out to others. Often times he calls people to follow him, like those who would be his apostles. At other times, like his encounter with Zacchaeus, he calls out so that he might stay with Zacchaeus and be of support in his life. In the Church, we most likely think of calling as one s vocation, listening for what purpose God has created us to know, love and serve him. Priests speak of their vocation, or calling, to holy orders and married couples talk of being called to love each other with a sacrificial, unbreakable and unconditional love. And within the call of our vocation, the Lord time and again calls out to us to invite us to share our gifts and abilities in a variety of ways for the good of others and of the Church. As our On Mission for The Church Alive! journey continues forward we are all invited to listen for the Lord calling us by name and seeking new and vibrant ways to respond in faith and generosity.
