2 March 27, 2016 St. Andrew Church Page Two DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY Next Sunday is Divine Mercy Sunday. Jesus said, On that day the very depths of My tender Mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. We will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Divine Mercy Devotions, and Benediction at 3:00pm on Sunday, April 3. BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY Sister Michelle Farabaugh OSB, retired Psychiatric Social Worker, is leading a Bereavement Ministry in our CCD Hall for those suffering the loss of a loved one. The second session will be held on Wednesday, April 13, at 2PM. Missed the first session? To join, call the parish office at to register. FAMILY ROSARY BASKET The Legion of Mary has a Family Rosary Basket to be used to promote families praying the rosary together. Included in the basket are rosaries, medals, scapulars, Marian prayers, and DVD s. The basket is in the church hallway, along with a sign-out sheet. Take the basket for a week. Return it to the church hallway for the next family to use. HOLY HOUR FOR PEACE A Holy Hour for Peace will be held at 7:00PM on Monday, April 4, at St. Paul Church. Prayers for peace, vocations, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and Benediction will be included. 4 ROLL AWAY THE STONE! Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord, Happy Easter! Christ is Risen, Alleluia! After our forty-day Lenten journey of confessing sins, completing works of mercy, fasting, almsgiving, and carrying our cross, we now rejoice and give thanks that Jesus rose from the dead. He dies no more and has opened the gates of heaven for all in Christ to live with the angels and saints in an eternal banquet of Divine Love. I admit a new favorite Easter song of mine, which I ve enjoyed learning the past two Easters here at St. Andrew, is titled, Roll Away the Stone. The song contrasts the verses of They have been saying, which contain the arguments of non-believers, skeptics, and secular points of view, with the refrain that boldly resounds to roll away the stone and see the glory of God. In Today s Gospel, St. Luke remarks that when the Galilean women took spices to the tomb on the first day of the week (the 8 th Day), They found the stone rolled away and behold, two men in dazzling garments appeared to them saying, Why do you seek the living one among the dead? The definitive dogma of Christianity is that our Founder is not simply an effective preacher, prophet, or a kind and holy person, but Jesus is God, and unlike all other religious leaders Jesus rose from the dead! Jesus Resurrection took place the day after the Sabbath, the 7 th day of the week, to reveal that His Resurrection broke through our measurement of time into the everlasting life of eternity. A joyful challenge this Easter Season is to see the Risen Christ present in our daily life. The Real Presence of the Risen Christ is found in the Sacraments, Sacred Scripture, wonders of nature, and in the heart of every person we meet, starting with ourselves. Do not seek the Risen Lord in the shortcomings of yesterday or the worries of tomorrow; find the Merciful Heart of our Risen Lord today among family and friends gathered for Easter. Commend to the mercy of God the souls of those who have passed on to the eternal banquet. St. Irenaeus, an early church father, has stated, the Glory of God is man fully alive. Glorify God by living your life to the fullest. Roll away the stone, be bathed in the light of His Resurrection, and become fully alive by seeing all creation through the lens of the glory of God. EASTER BLESSING OF FAMILIES Today, Easter Sunday, March 27, Bishop David Zubik together with his brothers Auxiliary Bishop William Waltersheid and Retired Auxiliary Bishop William Winter will welcome families of the Diocese of Pittsburgh to the Annual Blessing of Families at St. Paul Cathedral in Oakland at 2:00PM. All are welcome to receive the special Blessing imparted by our Bishops as they also take the opportunity to thank families for the beautiful witness of love and faith that they share with us. EASTER PRAYER We praise you, God, for raising Jesus from the dead and for the times you raise us up through your grace. When we are weak; when we refuse to forgive others; when we forget that you strengthen us; when we are too weary to follow Jesus as we should, raise us up. Thank you for giving us new life in Jesus and for his presence among us now and always. May the Risen Lord sustain you in your faith, grant you His peace, keep you from harm, and place in your hearts the joy of this Resurrection day always! Father Nick
