4 I WILL WALK BEFORE THE LORD IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord, Happy 2 ND Sunday of Lent! A favorite scripture verse of mine comes from St. Paul s 2 nd Letter to the Corinthians. The verse speaks of the glorious reality that awaits us in heaven, and that which we yearn to foretaste even now. In that letter, St. Paul writes, All of us, gazing with unveiled faces on the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as from the Lord who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians, 3: 18) On this 2 nd Sunday of Lent, where we ponder the Mystery of Jesus transfiguration on Mount Tabor, it is good to remember that we too are joyfully anticipating a similar transfiguration of our own lives at the Final Resurrection. In our Responsorial Psalm, today s psalmist offers a complimentary prayer in our sung response of Psalm 116. The psalmist sings, I will walk before the Lord in the Land of the Living Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his faithful ones in the courts of the House of the Lord, in your midst, O Jerusalem. The reference to the city of Jerusalem refers to not only the earthly city, but also the New and Eternal City, which the Lord is preparing for our everlasting dwelling. These past two weeks our bereavement ministry has shifted into overdrive. Last Friday, we laid to rest a faithful helper of our Easter and Christmas liturgical set up, Sonny Jerome. Last Saturday, the affectionately loved Mom of Golden Dreams Jewelers, Josephine Chilcott, had a fond farewell. This weekend, a charter member of our Parish, Joan Broerman, was presented to God, the Most High. Moreover, a young man of our parish, Drew Donoghue, a talented soccer player and cherished son, recently went to God. He has been cremated and the funeral arrangements are pending. Adding to these deaths, the tragic loss of life from recent school shootings and our personal loved ones who have gone before us, this week s message of Transfiguration is all the more necessary and timely. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. 5 ST. ANDREW LIVING STATIONS OF THE CROSS Our parish will present the Living Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, March 30, at 7:00pm. Practices will begin on Sunday, March 11, at 6:00pm. ANDREW HOLY HOUR & STATIONS OF THE CROSS Every Friday evening in Lent prior to Good Friday, our parish will hold a Divine Mercy Holy Hour from 5:30-6:30pm, immediately followed by the Stations of the Cross. All are welcome. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL LENTEN FOOD DRIVE February 14 March 25 The Food Bank is experiencing a never-ending demand for food. To help replenish supplies, SVDP is sponsoring a Lenten Food Drive. It Is Good That We Are Here As Jesus was transfigured in dazzling white with Moses and Elijah on Mount Tabor the Apostles do not want the moment to end. We can only imagine what it was like to see Jesus in splendor and glory and can also understand the Apostles desire to stay there forever. After all, isn t it what we anticipate heaven to be like? Yet, days before, these same Apostles wanted nothing to do with Jesus telling them that he must suffer and die and that they must take up their crosses and follow him to be his disciples. Do we, at times, want all the glory without any of the work and suffering? During this Lenten season it is very good that we are with Jesus in his suffering, so that we might be with him one day in his glory. The same is true of our journey On Mission for The Church Alive! While there may be great challenges in forming new, vibrant communities of faith, the new life possible for our parishes will shine brightly and be reflected in our lives. May we remain devoted to prayer, fasting and good works this Lent so that our hearts will be made ready for all that lies in store for us.
