The prophet had warned of God s judgment against people for the feelings of selfimportance they found in their possessions, and condemned them for various forms of economic injustice such as exploiting the poor and immigrants. Good stewards know that Isaiah s message is as compelling today as it was in the time of the kingdom of Judah: Do the right thing. Offer justice and compassion toward others. Be honest in all your dealings. And remember to observe the day of the Lord. --From the July 2014 Catholic Stewardship e-bulletin ( Please welcome the following newly baptized into our Parish: Evelyn Sophia Buell Altar Servers Aug 23-5:30pm - M Berghoff / I Rocca Aug 24-7:00am - J / M Quinn Aug 24-8:30am - K Deken / E Fleischman Aug 24-10:30am - E McKee / A Opincar Aug 24 - Noon - S / K Ramljak Aug 24-5:30pm - A / B Duffy

4 Christian Services How can I Help?? The 4th Saturday each month - August 23 - Help Feed the Hungry. Pass out food and clothes to homeless people. Meet in the St. Chris parking lot at 7:30 am. You can also meet us at the SVdP Distribution Center East Maryland Street - by 8 am, we return to St. Chris around 10:30. We need help every Saturday at the SVdP Food Pantry (3001 East 30th Street) and Distribution Center (1201 E Maryland St). The hours are flexible to fit your availability. We could really use some help driving the Distribution Center trucks to help pick up furniture. What is Beggars for the Poor? Despite all your help the Pantry is running low on a lot of different foods. The following items would be much appreciated: Peanut butter, pasta sauce, canned fruit, ravioli, and dried beans. Thank you in advance for your help! Parish Life Saint Vincent de Paul This ministry of SVdP directs it efforts to helping people with no homes at their most basic level. We provide donated food, clothing and toiletry items each Saturday to about 100 people in downtown Indianapolis. The food is a hot meal along with food that the Clients can take with them - bananas, crackers and peanuts. Drinks include, bottled water, coffee, milk and orange juice. Clothes includes pants, shirts, socks, underwear, shoes, coats, hats and gloves. Personal care items - soap, toothpaste, tooth brushes, deodorant, shampoo and body lotion. All the personal care items are travel size. It is part of the homeless Clients routine to receive these items each Saturday morning at 9 am and use them during the week. The Clients who receive these items are very grateful for your donations. If you would like more information on how you might be able to help St. Chris SVdP please contact Paul Guenin, , padeceje2@aol.com SVdP Help Line SVdP Donation Line Answered Monday through Friday 8:30-4:30 Men's Basketball We have moved from Tuesday nights to Wednesday nights at 7:30pm. There is no change to the Saturday 8am basketball schedule. Cost: $2/parishioner, $3/guest Any questions please contact Dave Partridge at RESPECT FOR LIFE CHERISH LIFE - The following is a quote from then Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio (now Pope Francis), homily for the feast of St. Raymond Nonnatus, patron saint of expectant mothers & newborns, August 31, 2005: All of us must care for life, cherish life, with tenderness, warmth to give life is to open (our) heart, & to care for life is to (give oneself) in tenderness & warmth for others, to have concern in my heart for others. Caring for life from the beginning to the end, what a simple thing, what a beautiful thing.so, go forth & don t be discouraged. Care for life. It s worth it. LIFE FACTS - An unborn baby s heart begins to beat at 21/22 days, & can be detected on an ultrasound. An unborn child can suck his or her thumb beginning at 13 weeks. By the third month, a child s face is well-formed & is 3-4 inches long. By month 5, the child s finger prints are already formed. During pregnancy, a woman s heart physically grows larger in order to accommodate the growing child within her. HOPE AFTER ABORTION - The following is a quote from a mother who lost a child in an abortion: After the abortion, I never would have believed things could get better. But, amazingly, since my post-abortion counseling, I have experienced hope & healing & self-forgiveness. (Visit hopeafterabortion.com if you or someone you know has been affected by an abortion.) PRAY FOR: Those suffering from the effects of abortion: That they may find peace in the love of Jesus Christ. Medical professionals: That their work may be rooted in a deep respect for life from conception to natural death. Married couples experiencing difficulty having children: May God comfort them in their suffering. NURSING HOME VISITATION MINISTRY Please contact Flora Villanueva at floravillanueva89@yahoo.com, if you would like to join us. Even if you are not interested in attending Respect Life meetings, you can help with this ministry. Scraps I have lots of scraps. Scraps of fabric, yarn, and paper. My scraps of fabric have become little dresses sent to Haiti. Some of the fabric becomes cat and dog toys. The yarn scraps have become hats, mittens and scarves for Food Pantry clients. Some yarn scraps become Prayer Shawls and baby blankets. The paper scraps become "handmade cards" for family and friends. Scraps of nature: Leaves, berries, twigs and roots become handmade paper. So much more of value are the precious scraps of Blessing falling from the hand of God, Than all the other scraps of this earth! The smallest drop of Precious Blood Will heal the whole world. Trudy Bledsoe
