Liturgical Commission Gospel: Matthew 17:1-9 His face shone like the sun. Question for Children: How do you show that you listen to Jesus? Question for Youth: How does your faith in Jesus as the Son of God affect your life? Question for Adults: When have you had a transfiguration experience? What was it like? Transfiguration of the Lord And he was transfigured before them. What awesome, mysterious words! Through unfamiliar to us, early Christians would have recognized the idea of transfiguration. In Jewish apocalyptic tradition, concerned with revelations about the end of time, the verb metamorphoo pointed to the miraculous change of form to be experienced by God s faithful in the age to come after a time of intense earthly suffering. This joyful celebration will take place August 27 at 2 pm at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Msgr. William F. Stumpf, followed by a reception across the street at the Catholic Center in Assembly Hall. The event is free of charge, but registration is required. The deadline is August 14. He was elected to serve as the 49th Mayor for the City of Indianapolis on Nov. 3, The event is Friday, Aug 18, at the North Side Knights of Columbus. Mass starts at 7 am and the program will be finished by 9 am. Cost for the program includes a great breakfast and is $15 in advance for members and $21 for non-members. Registration is required. Aug. 22 Nov 14, the Scripture Study at St. Christopher will explore these SHORT but enlightening books of the Old Testament along with portions of Second and Third Isaiah in ten classes on Tuesdays from 7:00 p.m.-8:45 p.m. in Damascus (There are 3 no class dates). The Spring Session of the Scripture Study will focus on the Gospel of Mark which also looks for God in a time of crisis. Following Mass, all will prayerfully proceed to the nearby abortion facility and say the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet. The devotions conclude between 10:30-10:45 AM. Archdiocesan Pro-life events, newsletter, links: Go to: SVdP Systemic Change Retreat SVdP is having an overnight retreat Oct. 14 th - 15th at the Benedict Inn. This retreat is for anyone interested in learning about how to change systems to reduce poverty. This is also for anyone who is a mentor or mentor to be. If you can t do both days, consider attending Saturday to participate in the Poverty Simulation that will be held Oct. 14th. This is a great opportunity to better understand the culture of poverty. Joby Abraham will be here Aug 19/20 to talk about the mission diocese of Imphal in Northeast India, home to 35 tribes of Mongolian origin. The first Catholic baptism in the diocese was recorded in 1952, since then the Catholic population has grown to 100,000. The growth of the Church has been accompanied by various challenges and persecutions during the past decades. In spite of the many challenges, missionary efforts are yielding an increase in vocation to priesthood and Religious life. The proceeds of the 2017 Mission appeal will be used to train Catechists for the parishes School Year St. Christopher School is currently registering students for the school year. 5 Religious Education Program CCD for Classes are for children in public schools - ages 3 years (Pre-K) to 5th grade Please do not wait to register your child until it s time for their First Communion - students must attend at least one year before beginning to prepare to receive the sacraments Classes meet Sunday mornings, 9:30-10:20, in the school building There is a fee for the program (to help with the cost of books and Materials), no child is turned away due to financial reasons Registration forms for both returning and new families are available in the back of church.
