Perhaps there is no better time to reflect on this story than in those prayerful moments at Mass when we return to our place after receiving Holy Communion. Those few moments give us an opportunity to reflect on our stewardship of Christ s presence within us. We have a chance to practice hospitality by inviting Jesus into our hearts to walk and talk with us about our own Emmaus journey. We can relive once again the time when he broke bread for the disciples. And just as they did, we too can recognize Christ in this meal we have just shared with others. All priests, deacons, employees of parishes, schools & agencies of the archdiocese, & volunteers who have contact with children should complete the training ASAP, even if they have taken Virtus or other child protection programs. The course is available in English & Spanish 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at It takes about 45 minutes to complete & can be done in parts over a series of days. Confronting Death - A Christian Approach to the End of Life - May 20, 2014 A wise pastor was asked what he would recommend as the path to spiritual maturity. The pastor responded without hesitation, "You must learn about death." Fr. Robert Botthof O.P. a Dominican Friar at St. Paul Catholic Newman Center, will facilitate a 2.5 hour workshop at the Catholic Center, 1400 N. Meridian Street on Tuesday, May 20 from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm. The program will include a video presentation, "Confronting Death: A Christian Approach to the End of Life" with author Walter Wangerin, followed by group discussion upon "learning of the serious illness of a loved one and the events that follow". Grief Ministry Teams, Hospice Personnel, Clergy and Archdiocese Parishioners are invited to attend. There is no charge for the workshop. Registration is not required, but an RSVP is appreciated. Sometimes a detour is placed in the way, and in the most unexpected places with the most unlikely people, Jesus is in our midst. The smile of a stranger, a wink, A tear drop on a cheek. The cry into our ear on the phone. The unexpected hug. The tiny fingers of a newborn wrapped around your little finger. Through joy and sorrow, Jesus is alive, working through us. Anytime Jesus is burning our hearts Just as the Precious Blood burns the throat. Our very own volunteer, Kurt Smith was nominated for and is receiving the St. John Bosco Medal Tuesday, May 6, 7pm from Bishop Christopher Coyne at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral. This medal is the highest honor bestowed upon a volunteer by the Catholic Youth Organization and is designed to honor those who have truly contributed to the physical, psychological and social development of youth. From his nomination letter: Mr. Smith is a fine example for our youth and always ready to serve. There does not seem to be any limit to his willingness to help young people.
