SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME GOSPEL REFLECTION RECONCILIATION Parish Center Conference Room, Saturday: 3:15-3:45 PM When you think of being Catholic, what do you think of? Perhaps you grew up with your only associations being fasting, nuns with rulers, and "Catholic guilt." Our faith can sometimes have the connotation of restriction and absence, not abundance. Who is God in your life? Is He the divine law-giver, the judge punishing the rulebreakers? These are certainly attributes of God. But the laws don't exist for themselves alone. They exist to help us love one another as God loves us. And this loving God is the author of abundance and joy. ANOINTING OF THE SICK After the 4:00 PM Saturday Mass; or contact Parish Office. BULLETIN NOTICES should be proposed, by if possible, to the Parish Office by Monday morning. Did you hear today's Gospel? "There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee." Here at this wedding, Jesus would perform "the beginning of his signs...and so reveal his glory." This first sign isn't a miraculous healing. He didn't raise someone from the dead. He kept a party going! "There were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons...the water...had become wine." The wine has run out. Jesus creates somewhere between 120 and 180 gallons to help his friend save face. We may not have such momentous miracles in our lives, but God is watching out for us. The string of green lights when you're running late. The sale on the replacement appliance you need. The friend who calls at just the right time. These are the little moments of God's abundance. We just need to look for them! Not only does Jesus surprise, but the guests point out to their host: "You have kept the good wine until now." The divine wine is better than the earthly variety. God's goodness is better than what we can grasp at for ourselves. Isn't that how it always goes?

We are by no means second or afterthoughts of God. As the master artisan, God takes delight in every fabric of our being and every single component of who we are. We are intentionally and lovingly designed! God gets much joy out of every child He creates, and He does not abandon us. God is definitely in charge! God can take a painful past or an apparent dead-end and turn it into a glorious future. He can transform nothing into something and is always eagerly ready to give us the gifts of faith, hope, and love. We are never bound by the past and never without options. All we have to do is listen to Him. Are we willing to give up the controls and allow Him to do what He does best? 5 GRADES 1-6 January 27/28: Classes February 3/4: Classes February 10/11: Classes February 10: 10:15 First Eucharist Parent Meeting, meet in Church! Did you know that the very first miracle of Jesus was at a party? Jesus, Mary, and some disciples were invited to the wedding of a friend, in the town of Cana. We are not sure who had just been married, but tradition is that is was one of the apostles. Sadly, the wine had run out, so there was nothing left but washing water! Jesus wasn t ready to show others who he was, but Mother Mary knew it was time, and so Jesus, as a good obedient son, obeyed his mother, and changed the water into wine. By doing this, the Groom and Bride wouldn t be accused of being poor hosts, and not providing enough refreshments for their wedding guests. When we hear this story, we learn of how Jesus can change water into wine, and later we know that he changes wine into his Blood, and bread into his Body. YOUTH MINISTRY Please pray for the High School Teens attending a leadership retreat next weekend in Charlton MA. This will prepare them to provide guidance and direction for young people from Parishes in Lexington, Wayland, Natick and Wellesley during Holy Week when we come together to fast, pray and serve at the annual ABIDE retreat. They will learn best practices for leading and persuading others Build their self-esteem as a leader and individual, so they feel equipped to make a difference and succeed in all areas of life They will be able to apply leadership skills directly in helping to plan the Abide 2019 teen youth conference, which last year raised over $11,000 for Catholic charities, and the middle school Stand event Finally and most importantly they will strengthen their faith, build friendships, and have fun! 7th and 8th grade students meet at the regular time this week.

6 ST. FRANCIS HOUSE WINTER : The St. Francis House Winter Clothing Drive is underway. St. Francis House serves approximately 35 clothing appointments per day, 175 full sets of clothing per week! Please join us in helping our brothers and sisters by donating clean, practical clothing. Your efforts and generosity are appreciated by the thousands who come to St. Francis House each year for a fresh pair of clothes in times of need. Items in highest demand are as follows: men s pants [especially jeans], footwear [boots], sweaters and sweatshirts, coats, hats, gloves and scarves. New, unused socks [still packaged] for men and women, tǧshirts and women s plus size clothing of all types are much in de. Ǧ off bins are located in St. Julia Parish Center Lobby and in both churches. This important clothing drive runs until January 27th. All items must be clean, in good condition, at most, gently used. Both men s and women s items are always needed, but the biggest demand is MEN s ITEMS. Seminarians from Pope John XXIII Seminary will come and share their interesting journey to the Priesthood. All are welcome. January 22nd is the annual Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. In all dioceses in the United States, this day is to be observed as a day of penance and prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life.
