Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ - June 6/7 Today s Gospel gives St. Mark s account of Jesus gathering his disciples for a last supper, revealing to them a new covenant established through his own sacrificial blood. Every time we participate in the Eucharist, we make a pledge to renew and deepen our participation in Christ s covenant in practical ways. For the steward, that means making daily, personal sacrifices to strengthen this covenant relationship such as deepening our relationship with the Lord in prayer, supporting our parish, and giving comfort to the poor. Now is a good time to reflect on what we can do to strengthen our covenant with the Lord and our community in practical ways. -From the Catholic Stewardship e-bulletin ( catholicstewardship.com/) Altar Servers June 13-5:30 pm - June 14-7:00 am - June 14-8:30 am - June 14-10:30 am - June 14-12:00 pm - June 14-5:30 pm - E Jost / L Pabon J Flagler / K Matter N Kutcher / J West A Ballou / A Blastic D Eke / K Krieger A / B Duffy

That was when suits and ties and covered heads Filled the church. Noise was forbidden. Today we greet one another and smile as We gather to celebrate the gift of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Blood, the source of all life, Pumping through us by the heart center. Warming us as only love can do. Caught in a chalice, the loving cup Freely offered. Broken bread, food for the soul. Given to us to fill the void within, and for a time, To feel the arms of Jesus wrapping, holding, loving us. The only thing asked of me is that I give to others The gift of unconditional love and forgiveness Given to me in the breaking of the bread. -Trudy Bledsoe

5 Dear St. Christopher Parish, Message From Father Dan This weekend is an important weekend for me. For many reasons. First of all, this weekend marks my one-year anniversary of priesthood. And what a year it's been! Festivals, Christmas concerts, school auctions, camping trips, graduations, and of course, the Greatest Spectacle in Racing! There have been funerals and baptisms, weddings and first communions, and more homilies than I can count. I have put down roots here, and I feel at home here. And thanks be to God, it looks like I have at least one more year here in the racing capital of the world! But this weekend is important for a few other reasons. This weekend, my one and only sister is getting married! In true fairy tale fashion, Anna fell in love with a humble, unassuming farm-boy who turned out to be her prince in shining armor. She is getting married in our home parish, where her mom, her grandma, her great grandma, and even her great-great grandma all were married. Ever since I can remember, Anna has wanted to be a wife and mother. Now those dreams can begin to come true. But wait! There's more! Also taking place this weekend is the Ordination Mass for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Three of our seminarians are being ordained to serve as priests this weekend. Each has their own unique journey by which they reached this point, but all three of them share a common love and devotion to our Lord. On Sunday, I have the rare and privileged honor to preach the homily at soon-to-be Fr. Adam Ahern's first Mass as a priest. Fr. Adam, who spent eight years serving our country as a member of the Army, now desires to serve both God and country by enlisting as a chaplain for the armed forces. Service. Devotion. Courage. With all this going on, is it any wonder that my thoughts and prayers are focused on vocations this weekend? And I'm not just talking about the vocation to priesthood. I'm talking about the sacrifice of giving one's entire life to another so much so that new life is born and loved into this world. I'm talking about leaving one's home to enter a cloistered convent where every waking moment is spent praying for God's people, whether they know it or not. I'm talking about devoting one's life to something greater than themselves; losing one's self in the overwhelming peace and joy of having and knowing a destiny. The world needs vocations. Now more than ever. It desperately needs men and women who are willing to dedicate themselves to the task of raising families, spreading the good news, and uniting the human race by the bonds of love. It desires...no...requires what was once so common and ordinary, but which now seems surprising and extraordinary: a married couple who is still in love after fifty years of marriage; a young priest who turns away from the glamour of the world to perform the sacraments; a young woman who decides to make Christ her husband and her all. For some of us, we have found that vocation. Now it s a matter of living it to the full. Now its time to rekindle the old flame and breathe new life into it! Now its time to hand our destiny back over to God and allow him to work through us. And it s our turn to help the next generation discover their unique vocation. For those who are seeking their vocation, know that you do not seek it alone. We are the Body of Christ, as we celebrate this weekend of Corpus Christi. We are united to each other and each others' vocations. I am called to priesthood, but I would not be here without the vocation to marriage. Nor would I have discovered my vocation save for the prayers and help of nuns and priests. We are all connected. We are all connected in God. And so, to mark and celebrate this glorious weekend, I implore you to pray for vocations. Pray for those getting married. Pray for those being ordained priests. Pray for those taking vows as religious. And pray for all God's children, that they may live that life of holiness and happiness to which we are all called. Amen. Yours in Christ, Fr. Daniel Bedel Sed Lux Lucet In Tenebris
