Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time In today s Gospel, Jesus challenges the social structure of the Pharisees and teaches his hosts and their guests some profound lessons in humility. Pharisees maintained deep social divisions between who they considered holy and unholy, rich and poor, honored and despised. They didn t invite someone to a banquet or dinner who couldn t reciprocate. And the lowly, the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind had no capacity to reciprocate. Good stewards realize that if they embrace a humility that allows them to be generous to those who cannot repay them, they give evidence of having the kind of heart that will enjoy the Lord s intimate friendship. This week let s reflect on our attitude towards those who cannot repay our generosity. What is the extent of our hospitality toward others? Question for Adults: Who are the people living near you that you would find it most difficult to invite to a meal in your home? Or to invite to be part of your life? Memorial Mass Monday, September 19, 2016, 6:30 pm Saint Anthony & Saint Christopher communities will celebrate a Memorial Mass to remember those who have passed. All are invited. There will be a reception to follow in the lower level of the church with light snacks. Location: St. Christopher Catholic Church Attention Eucharistic Ministers & Servers It is time for a new schedule! This next schedule will be from October 1/2 to January 28/29. The new schedule will be available for pick-up the weekend of September 17th Around The Archdiocese This year's Catholic Radio Annual Dinner will be held on Tuesday, Sep 13th at the North Side Knights of Columbus Hall near 71st and Keystone. The reception begins at 5:30 pm, dinner is at 7 pm and includes a reception, dinner, silent auction and a live auction. Fr. Vince Lampert, Exorcist of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, will be the featured speaker. Tickets are $65 per person or $450 for a table of eight. 3 FAITH FORMATION Annual Church Cleaning Come join the fun! Saturday, Sep 10th: 8-11 am Cleaning supplies are provided. Many hands make light work. In the wake of racial tensions & tragic moments within some of our communities, the USCCB has called for a National Day of Prayer on Sept 9th, the feast of St. Peter Claver. The Archdiocese of Indianapolis Day of Prayer to promote unity & peace will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle at 4052 E. 38 th St. It will begin at 6pm. ARCHDIOCESEN PRO- LIFE EVENTS, NEWSLETTER, LINKS Go to: Caregiver Support Group The role of a caregiver can be challenging & overwhelming at times. Whether you are new to this role or have been a caregiver for a while, St. Christopher s Parish would like to begin a support group for caregivers. During the monthly meetings caregivers will experience support and learn new insights, resources and practical suggestions to assist in helping meet the emotional, physical and logistical demands of caregiving. Before committing yourself to this group, you are invited to an INFORMATIONAL MEETING on Monday, August 29, 7:30 PM, Damascus Rm. This meeting will explain the special six-part video and sharing series. The support group will be facilitated by an experienced and trained Caregiver. You are encouraged to pre-register so we can be adequately prepared for the attendees by contacting Sr.Kathy at kmorrissey@stchrisindy.org or , ext This support group series will assist the caregiver to not only to remain healthy themselves, but to provide proper care for their loved ones as well. Let others walk alongside you in your caregiving journey as hope and help is available for you! St. Vincent de Paul Thank You to all the Volunteers that share their time, talents and/or treasures to support our efforts to assist people living in poverty. When you do something to help someone else it makes you feel good inside! The rewards of volunteering satisfy a basic yearning of the human heart: to be needed, valued and appreciated. There s no better place to remedy this spiritual hunger than the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. We are looking for a Beggars for the Poor Volunteer Coordinator at St. Chris Responsibilities include: Purchasing supplies to be passed out, you do get reimbursed Coordinating the 4 th Saturday of the month trip downtown at 7:30 with a group of St. Chris, Our Lady of the Greenwood and other volunteers. The food pantry alone is A wonderful blessing to Those in need, and to those Who do the work. We have had many opportunities To participate in several works of Mercy in this community. Just read the bulletin and listen To your heart to find the Mercy of mission work that Speaks to you. 5 Ministry Fair & Welcome MINISTRY FAIR & WELCOME to our new Associate Pastor Fr. Matthew Tucci September 10 & 11 After all Masses in the Gym (PAC) In Emmaus Way after the 5:30 Sunday Mass Coffee and donuts will be available after the morning Masses on Sunday. Cookies will be served after the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday Come on out & meet with our new Associate Pastor, Fr. Matthew Tucci as well as other parishioners. This is a great opportunity to meet others within our faith community & to find out what goes on at St. Christopher Parish. Learn more about becoming involved in parish ministries AND in groups who are seeking more members for participation for faith enrichment. THE SEARCH IS ON! We need keyboard accompanists for the 5:30 Saturday and 8:30 and 10:30 Sunday morning liturgies. Keyboard accompanists are the backbone of any quality liturgical music program. If you are a pianist and / or organist with accompanying experience we need your help. If you would like to participate in a very significant way, please contact Nancy Links. ( ). Saint Christopher Youth Choir (SCYC) Come lift your voice to the Lord and join the SCYC! Singers are 3 rd grade to Middle School ages. Rehearsals are every other Sunday 9:35am -10:25am. (Children are excused from their CCD program attendance to come to rehearsals.) The SCYC Choir will sing once a month at one of the 5:30pm Sunday Masses.
