What is hard for you to do to follow Jesus? Question for Youth: In order to follow Jesus, we have to do hard things, to carry our own crosses. What is a cross that you are carrying right now? In what ways can you ask Jesus to help you with your cross? Question for Adults: Jesus gives us the core truth to life and eternal happiness the cross. Name the cross that you carry. How is it bringing you closer to God? Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time In today s Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples, Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. At the end of the reading Jesus suggests there is great hope in the cross. Today s followers of Christ recognize they are stewards of his entire legacy, including his cross and that through their mutual sacrifices God s glory is revealed. They don t live their lives in Christ only when it is convenient for them. They make a decision to take up their cross and carry it, no matter what the cost is to themselves. Reflect this week on the cross you bear in order to reveal God s glory. How do you embrace that cross? How, at times, do you shirk that cross when it is not convenient? COME AND CHECK US OUT! PARISH LIFE Ministry Open House Make plans to attend the Ministry Open House after all Masses, Sept. 16 & 17 in Emmaus Way. At the Open House you can learn about Parish Life Ministries, such as the 55 & Over Group, Athletic Programs, Support & Social, and Parish Registrations. The area of Christian Service involves St. Vincent de Paul, the St. Chris Food Pantry, Sick & Shut In Assistance, Funeral Meals, Nursing Home Visits, and the Respect Life Group. Resources & Development Ministries include Bingo, Building & Grounds, Parent Teacher Partnership, Mid-Summer Festival, and 3 rd Source Income for St. Christopher School. Come to the open house and learn about the opportunities for service and faith enrichment. YOUTH CHOIR CALL-OUT! Come lift your voices and lead our prayer! Singers must be in 3rd to 8th grades. Rehearsals are every other Sunday morning, 9:35-10:25 am and some Tuesday evenings. (Children are excused from their Sunday CCD program class to come to rehearsals.) The Saint Christopher Youth Choir will sing once a month at one of the weekend Masses, we will go caroling in December, sing the 4pm Christmas Eve Mass and the First Communion Liturgy in April! SAINTS IN THE STREETS A neighborhood clean up day started in 2008, to celebrate the richness and vibrancy of the near Westside of Indianapolis. This year s event is Sat, Oct. 7th. The day begins at 8 am, with prayer and work assignments at St. Anthony s (337 N. Warman Ave). The teams will spread out in the community to clean the streets and alleys, and provide yard maintenance for elderly neighbors. The teams will work till noon when lunch will be provided at the parish. Together, may we sweep away that which separates us so that we may live in unity Please join us to make a difference in these near Westside neighborhoods. YOUTH MINISTRY Sep 10, 11:30-6 pm - Team building day at Camp for both youth groups. Sep 17, 9:30-10:20 High School Group - Biltmore House Middle School Group - School Room 1 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS! NCYC (National Catholic Youth Conference) is coming up Nov (Miss one day of school!) More info to come. If you know you want to go you can sign up online (link is on the parish website). Our hearts and prayers go out to the families that have lost loved ones and to all who have lost homes and businesses along with their sense of peace and normalcy. Our prayerful and financial support is urgently needed. Help needed at the Distribution Center Referral Desk We have an urgent need for volunteers to work the Referral Desk at the SVdP Distribution Center. It involves processing client paperwork to claim items they ve been approved for by the Conference home visitors. Most critical are the 1-4 pm shifts on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and the 9 am-noon shift on Saturday. If you are uncomfortable using a computer, we also have tasks that don t require computer skills. We also need volunteers willing to serve as substitutes in the event a regular volunteer can t be here for his/her shift and would be available to sub on short notice.
