We will journey with Jesus for many Sundays to come, and along the way he will teach us about the demands of discipleship. His instruc ons may seem harsh and unreasonable to our ears. His response to legi mate requests to postpone the journey reminds us that there are always jus fiable excuses to defer the journey or put off the responsibili es of discipleship. Other important ma ers compete for our a en on. Some of us must make heart-wrenching choices, but there is urgency about Jesus mission to bring forth God s kingdom. His demand is that we proclaim the Kingdom of God now. Is this our first priority, or do we have other priori es?

Liturgical Commission Gospel: Luke 9:51-62 I will follow you wherever you will go. Question for Children: To follow Jesus means to do what is right. Name a time this past week when you followed Jesus by doing the right thing you were asked to do, the first time, without an excuse. Question for Youth: The people in the story had lots of reasons why they couldn t follow Jesus. What makes it hard to be a disciple of Jesus? Why do you make the choice to follow Jesus even though it is hard? Question for Adults: Sometimes we are like the people in the Gospel and have many excuses for why we cannot follow Jesus. However, that task that I loved Has had to be left behind due to an injury. I wept as I realized that one of my creative Contemplative practices was over, leaving a Hole in my life. We all have these kind of Holes or voids that cause hurt and dismay. The good news is that other doors open. God Does unexpected things and the void is filled With wonderful ways not thought of before. The text today, of sitting the hand on plow and Not looking back reminds me that there are many Good ways to fill the void. As the saying goes: Keep your eye on the prize. In my case, that is Keep calm and carry your cross. Trudy Bledsoe St. Vincent de Paul "West Side Changing Lives Forever Bridges out of Poverty Note: We will NOT be collecting donations at St. Chris in July until after the festival. Many of our efforts involve helping people with short term solutions to their needs instead of helping to eliminate their need. One way to provide long term help is a learning opportunity we call "West Side Changing Lives Forever - Bridges out of Poverty. It is a joint effort with Saint Anthony, Saint Christopher, Saint Gabriel and Saint Michael SVdP Conferences. This training is a Facilitator supported, group based, study program conducted by 12 "Investigators". The Investigators are people who have decided to improve their lives in any of eleven areas including financial, spiritual, mental, etc. so they can move away from government and other assistance. The most recent class started Monday April 18. We still need Mentors, meals and childcare volunteers for the class. The training lasts about 18 weeks. For more information about becoming a mentor please check out These people need our help. They have decided to improve their lives, how can you help? Is God calling you to share your skills or time? If you would like more information on how you might be able to help please call or text Paul Guenin at or padeceje2@aol.com. SVdP Help Line Donation Line Mon - Fri 8:30-4:30 Thank you for all the past donations. The pantry is currently in need of cereal and peanut butter, common summer staples for children at home during the summer break.
