2 Page 2 Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 11, 2015 All is possible for God You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me. Mark 10:21 How wonderful to receive an invitation like this! But the man Jesus invited was rich, and his wealth prevented him from doing what Jesus asked. This Gospel story prompts us to ask if there is something that keeps us from following Jesus. Perhaps Jesus asks us to let go of our anger or our fear or our selfishness. These are all things that would keep us from following him with free and loving minds and hearts. The rich man refused Jesus invitation and so lost the chance to change his life. Of course, it would have been hard for him to give up his wealth, just as it may be hard for us to give up our particular attachments. But Jesus tells us in this Gospel that what is impossible for us, is possible for God. Living with Christ Lord, I trust in your power to help me follow you as you will. Next weekend our parish will celebrate World Mission Sunday Your ongoing support of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith is vital to the missionaries serving in 1,150 dioceses throughout Asia, Africa, parts of Latin America and Europe, and on the Islands of the Pacific. Your generosity makes it possible for local priests, religious, and catechists to reach out to communities, families and children in desperate need, bringing the light of Christ to the darkest of circumstances. Please keep the Missions in your daily prayers. Please come prepared next weekend to give generously in the collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Take some time this week to pray about how you can be of help to those in need. There are special collection envelopes in the pews. Please take one home today and return it in next weekend s collection basket. Awesome opportunities to learn and grow in faith this week at St. Didacus! Prayer Class Tuesday, October 13th at 10am in the Parish Hall We ll be looking at meditation as a form of prayer. Meditation is a form of reflective prayer which engages thought, imagination, emotion, and desire. This is a great opportunity to deepen your prayer life with new ideas and techniques. A world at prayer is a world at peace. This weekend, we join all the parishes in the Diocese of San Diego in offering up rosaries for peace in our troubled world. Lasting peace is only possible through prayer. Learn more about the life of St. Teresa of Avila Thursday, October 15th 7pm in the Parish Hall This year marks the 500th anniversary of St. Teresa of Avila's birth. We ll learn more about this Spanish mystic and reformer of the Church by watching a short DVD about her life. Everyone is welcome to attend. Don t forget about the Celebration of the 5th Centenery of St. Teresa of Avila with the Carmelites at the Church of the Immaculata on the campus of USD on Saturday, October 17th at 10am. We can make a difference by praying the Rosary. We can save lives through this powerful devotion. October is a month dedicated to the rosary. Make some extra time this month to offer up a rosary for peace. Blessed are the peacemakers!

5 Page 5 Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Pope Francis September 1st announcement that priests world-wide will be able to absolve women for the sin of abortion will have little effect on pastoral practices in the United States and Canada, where most priests already have such authority in the sacrament of reconciliation. Don Clemmer, interim director of media relations for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops said that it is the fiat of the local bishop whether to allow the priests in his diocese to absolve those sins and most bishops granted such permission when giving priests faculties to minister in their Local Church.
