2 Page 2 Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord April 14, 2019 During Holy Week each year, we enter most deeply into the foundation of our Christian faith the mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus. The Season of Lent ends on Thursday of Holy Week. Then the Church remembers the death and resurrection of Jesus during the Easter Triduum. The Easter Triduum begins on Holy Thursday with the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper, is continued through Good Friday with the celebration of the Passion of the Lord and on Holy Saturday, reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil, and concludes with Masses on Easter Sunday. These three days are the most important time of the Church year. Please join us for these holiest of days. Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper On Holy Thursday we remember the Last Supper and that Jesus gave himself in the Eucharist. We recall that Jesus chose his apostles to serve and lead the Church. Remembering that Jesus washed the apostles feet at the Last Supper, the priest washes the feet of members of the congregation. The evening Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday is a beautiful and joyful celebration. Because Holy Thursday is a feast day of the Blessed Sacrament, there is a procession of the Eucharist after the Mass to an altar of repose set up in the Parish Hall. Thursday, April 18th (No morning Mass this day) 7:00pm Mass of the Lord s Supper Eucharistic Adoration 8:00pm-12:00am in the Parish Hall Good Friday of the Passion of the Lord On Good Friday we remember the death of Jesus. According to an ancient custom, Mass is not celebrated on this day or before the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. The celebration of the Lord's Passion and death takes place in the afternoon. There are three parts to the liturgy of the day: the Liturgy of the Word; the Veneration of the Cross; and Holy Communion with Hosts consecrated on Holy Thursday. Friday, April 19th (No morning Mass this day) 12:00pm Stations of the Cross English / 1pm Stations of the Cross Spanish 3:00pm Liturgy of the Passion of the Lord English 7:00pm Liturgy of the Passion of the Lord Spanish Holy Saturday Easter Vigil On Holy Saturday the Church meditates on the suffering and death of Jesus. Then the Church gathers to celebrate the Easter Vigil. Those in our RCIA program will receive the sacraments at this Mass. Our celebration of the Easter Vigil takes place at 8pm and begins with a gathering on the Church steps around the fire. Religious Education News: There will be no Religious Education Classes on Wednesday, April 17th or April 24th. Classes will resume on Wednesday, May 1st. Youth Ministry News: There will be no Youth Ministry meeting on Tuesday, April 16th, but students are invited to come that day at 4pm to help set-up for Holy Week. This can count toward any community service hours they need. There will be no Youth Ministry on Tuesday, April 16th and April 23rd. We will meet again on Tuesday, April 30th. The Divine Mercy Group is leading a Divine Mercy Novena in Spanish beginning on Good Friday after the Spanish Passion Liturgy. See the schedule of dates and times listed on page 6 of the bulletin. Everyone is welcome. Today is Palm Sunday and we don t have class for Confirmation. We hope that all young people attend the Triduum Masses during Holy Week and that they help with the needs of the parish to prepare for Holy Week. Monday, May 6th at 7pm is the Confirmation rehearsal with their sponsors. Tuesday, May 7th is Confirmation with Bishop Robert McElroy at 6 pm. Youth should be in the church at 5:30pm with their sponsors. After Mass each candidate will have the opportunity to take one picture with the bishop and their family.

Hosanna is a joyful Aramaic exclamation of praise which was commonly used to express joy and praise for a victory won or expected. The Gospel to be read or proclaimed this Sunday is the account of the Passion and death of the Lord according to St. Luke. St. Luke presented Jesus as the suffering servant of God who relies on God alone. Jesus accepted death, even death on a cross. When we listen to the account of Jesus judgement and death, let us not become silent spectators, but rather active witnesses of the Gospel. While some of Jesus friends left and others watched him from a distance, let us take our stand and stay close to Jesus and take responsibility so that we too can stand with the Lord in his Resurrection and glory.
