Worship June 10, 2018 Preparation for Worship The Greeting Leader: People: The Lord be with you. And also with you. The Call to Worship God calls His people to worship PSALM 67:14 May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations. Let the peoples praise you, O God; Let all the peoples praise you! Let the nations be glad and sing for joy! Hymn of Praise We praise God for his goodness ALL CREATURES OF OUR GOD AND KING HYMN 115 Invocation We seek the Lord s presence among us 2

Doxology We respond in praise OLD HUNDREDTH Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below. Praise him above, ye heav nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen Confession of Faith We confess our faith together The Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. * The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *While Jesus didn t literally descend to hell, he did endure the torment of hell on the cross and remained under the power of death until his resurrection. **universal 3

Confession of Sin We acknowledge our sin Almighty and most merciful Father, we are thankful that your mercy is higher than the heavens, wider than our wanderings, deeper than all our sin. Forgive our frivolous attitude toward life, our callousness toward suffering, our envy of those who have more than we have, our obsession with creating a life of constant pleasure, our indifference to the treasures of heaven, our neglect of your wise and gracious law. Forgive us that at times we do not stand in awe of your greatness and goodness in creation and culture. Forgive us that often we do not fellowship with you and enjoy you as we enjoy everything you have abundantly provided for us in this world. Help us to further change our way of life so that we may desire what is good, love what you love, and do what you command, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Assurance of Forgiveness The promise of good news PSALM 103:813 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. 4

Psalm 121 I will lift up my eye to the mountains From which shall my help come, My help comes from the Lord Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip, He who keeps you will not slumber, Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper, The Lord is your shade on your right hand, The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night. The Lord will guard you from all evil, He will keep your soul, The Lord will guard your going o er and your coming in, From this time forth and forever. I will lift up my eye to the mountains, From which shall my help come, My help comes from the Lord. Words adapted by Darwin Jordan; Music by Darwin Jordan 1981 Darwin Jordan Music 7

Communion Prayer of Thanksgiving The Encouragement Pastor: People: Pastor: People: Pastor: People: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. Words of Institution The Confession Pastor: People: Pastor: People: Pastor: Let us proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed for us. Therefore, let us keep the feast. The gifts of God for the people of God. Statements for Communion: The body of Christ for you. The blood of Christ for you. You have new life in Christ. You have full forgiveness in Christ. (We do serve wine in the communion trays but you can also find grape juice in the center of the trays.) 9

Understanding Holy Communion For Christ our passover has also been sacrificed for us, therefore, let us celebrate the feast. 1 Corinthians 5:78 Because we believe the Table belongs to the Lord, it is vital that you come this morning on His terms: 1. You must be in communion with Jesus Christ by faith and repentance, trusting Him alone for your salvation. 1 Corinthians 11: You must be in communion with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Matthew 5:2324; Ephesians 4: You must be in communion with the church (any Biblebelieving church) as a baptized member in good standing. Matthew 18:15 18; Hebrews 13:17 4. Because we seriously heed Scripture's admonition in 1 Corinthians 11:2829, We invite children who are ready to make a public profession of saving faith to complete the Communicants Class materials available at the book table, arrange a meeting with the elders, and thus become regular communicants at the Lord s Table. "But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 1 Corinthians 11:

Prayers for Those Not Communing For those searching for truth: Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth and the life. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Give me the ability to follow you no matter what it might cost me. Give me an understanding for you that is coherent, convincing, and leads to the life that you promise. Amen. For those who desire to profess faith in Christ: Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever believed, but through you, I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead and are now representing me at the Father s right hand in heaven, I turn from my sins and receive you as my savior. Amen. A prayer for those struggling against sin: Lord Jesus, give me the ability to see in you the fulfillment of all my needs and desires, and help me to turn from every false source of satisfaction to feed on you, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely to me, and run with perseverance the race that you have set before me, looking only to you, the author and perfecter of my faith. Amen. A prayer for covenant children who have not yet made a profession of faith: Lord Jesus, thank you for giving me the opportunity to grow up in a Christian family where I am surrounded by the good news of the gospel. Help me to grow in my understanding of who you are and what you have done for me on the cross. Help me learn what it means for me to turn from my sins and trust in you alone for my salvation. Teach me what it means to follow you as one of your disciples. Amen. 11

Closing Hymn We respond in faith and song This I Believe (The Creed) Our Father everlasting, the allcreating One, God Almighty, Through Your Holy Spirit, conceiving Christ the Son, Jesus, our Savior. I believe in God our Father, I believe in Christ the Son. I believe in the Holy Spirit, our God is three in one. I believe in the resurrection, that we will rise again. For I believe in the name of Jesus. Our Judge and our Defender, suffered and crucified, Forgiveness is in You. Descended into darkness, You rose in glorious life, Forever seated high. I believe in life eternal, I believe in the virgin birth. I believe in the saints communion and in Your holy church. I believe in the resurrection, when Jesus comes again. For I believe in the name of Jesus. For I believe in the name of Jesus. Words and music by Ben Fielding and Matt Crocker 2014 Hillsong Music Publishing 12
