1 1 Parish of the Precious Blood June 11, TRINITY SUNDAY God so loved the world that he gave his only Son." We are used to this profound idea, so used to it that we often glaze over the incredible reality: God the Father has a Son who became man and dwelt among us! Too often we blithely make the sign of the cross in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, without realizing what a radical theology we are announcing. Only Christianity proclaims a triune God. Only Christianity professes that we have one God in three divine persons. Only Christianity declares that the very nature of God is to be relational and literally "personal." Why does this matter? Because we are made in God's image, as the opening chapters of Genesis tell us. We, therefore, are made in the image of this Trinitarian God who is love. We are built to be like this God! Just as God the Father loves God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, we too are called to love one another. In fact, we are not fulfilling our nature and design when we don't. And just as God loved the world (that is, us!) so too we are called to love him in return. God gave us freedom so that our love can be real, but this means our choices really matter. We can decide not to reflect God's interpersonal love in the world. We can opt not to return the love that God pours out to each of us. But this can only lead to disappointment in the end. After all, God sent his Son so that "everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life." Ultimately, this means spending eternity in the Trinitarian embrace of love. 4 4 WORSHIP & SPIRITUALITY (cont.) Who is a Deacon? A deacon is an ordained minister of the Catholic Church. There are three groups, or orders, of ordained ministers in the Church: bishops, presbyters and deacons. Deacons are ordained as a sacramental sigh to the Church and to the world of Christ, who came to serve and not to be served. The entire Church is called by Christ to serve, and the deacon, in virtue of his sacramental ordination and through his various ministries, is to be a servant in a servant-church. First Friday services will be held July 7th at 6 PM at Holy Rosary Church. H.O.P.E. SOCIAL JUSTICE & PEACE Sip N Paint with Father Alex Enjoy an afternoon of sipping and painting with Fr. Alex. Teen ACTS retreat is being held July at the Christian Life Center in Frenchville. Cost is $100 for the whole weekend including room and board and all the meals and materials for the retreat! All incoming freshman to high school seniors are invited to attend. Come join other youth from across the county for a retreat like no other, you will be glad you did! The Parish JH/HS Youth Ministry are having an ongoing BOTTLE DRIVE through July 10th. Drop off locations are in Caribou at Holy Rosary by the ramp leading to the offices, in Presque Isle by the garage and in Fort Fairfield by the Rectory garage. Again, thank you for your support of our efforts to attend Summer conferences. CHURCH & FAMILY LIFE PAPER DRIVE D. of I., Presque Isle For the month of June, the Presque Isle Daughters of Isabella will be collecting Toilet Tissue (TP) to help G.I.F.T. There is a large box in the Narthex to collect clean donated items. This is an easy way for our Church and Parish to help our neighbors in need. Please be as generous as you can. CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. & Mrs. George and Ann Moreland on the celebration of their 50 th wedding anniversary. The Rosary Group at St. Mary s will not be meeting during the Summer. They will resume meeting again in September. MIZPAH again will be celebrating 1 st Friday of the Month Masses starting with June 2 nd followed by July 7 th, August 4 th, September 1 st, and October 6 th. The Mass is at 1 PM (American Time) 2 PM (Canadian Time). There will be coffee and donuts served after all 1 st Friday of the month Masses. Welcome Herman Legassie to our Staff We are proud to announce that on June 1st we hired Herm Legassie as the new custodian/ Caretaker for St. Mary s church in Presque Isle.
