1 1 Parish of the Precious Blood December 30, The Holy Family "After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers." As we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family, this Gospel exposes us to a strange tension. While this family is one we can look to for an example, they are not quite the same family unit as everyone else. There is an otherness to Jesus, something profound. And yet, perhaps on second thought, are our families so different? When Mary and Joseph encountered Jesus in the temple, "they were astonished." But at what? Mary's response is surprised. They're not astonished that Jesus is preaching in a place for respected teachers. They're not astonished that their son has captured the attention of the wisest men of the time period. They're astonished at his seemingly disobedient behavior! "Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety." All our children have an "otherness" about them, something that makes them unique and different. They are distinctly not "me." What will our own children become? What temple will they wander off to? 4 4 YOUTH MINISTRY Mission Diaper Brigade! Diaper Mission Brigade The PPB Youth Ministry is on a mission, a SERVICE MISSION, during the month of December. We need your help to successfully complete this mission. The PPB Youth Ministry is collecting items for the Pregnancy Care Center of Aroostook County. This Pregnancy Care Center life affirming ministry serving the pregnancy related concerns and educational needs of women and teens. The PCC offers emotional, spiritual, and material support to both our clients and their families. Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to help PPB Youth Ministry collect size 5 & 6 diapers, wipes, desitin and baby wash. Donations can be dropped off at all Worship Sites as well as the Holy Rosary and St Mary s Rectory offices by December 30th. PPB Youth Ministry Happenings: Youth Masses are held at 9am at St. Mary s January 20 February 10** (second Sunday due to school vacation week) March 17 April 14 ** (second Sunday due to school vacation week) May 5 ( last Youth Mass for academic year) You ve asked for it! Theology in the County begins January 2019! Theology in the County is a pilot program that will provide an opportunity for Catholic fellowship in a casual forum where adults gather for challenging and relevant presentations on our faith and how it applies to daily life. It gives adults the opportunity to network with one another and be part of the larger Catholic community that extends beyond their Parish setting. Each session will begin with a social followed by a presentation given by a guest speaker and time for an informal discussion and Q&A period. Participants are welcome to enjoy food and beverages at during the session (bring own money). Time is approx. 1 ½ to 2 hours. Theology in the County will take place at The Warehouse in Caribou at 6:30pm on the following dates: CHURCH & FAMILY LIFE COFFEE & CONVERSATION Join us after Mass on Sunday s at St. Mary s Church in Presque Isle during the month of December for Coffee and Conversation. ST. DENIS 125 YEARS OLD THIS SUMMER St. Denis will be 125 years old this summer. The St. Denis Church Council is looking for volunteers to serve on a committee to plan a celebration. If you are interested in helping please contact Irene Ellis at iellis@maine.rr.com or at ADULT SERVERS NEEDED for WEEKDAY MASSES St. Denis is in need of adult altar servers for the weekday Masses and for funerals.
