Remember that we are on the same road walking with Jesus. Today we come to Mount Tabor. We climb and there is Jesus transfigured before us. The light emanating from Him is the brightest we have ever seen. We hear, This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him. The Father gives us a glimpse of the divinity of His Son. Brilliant light symbolizes God. Mountaintops symbolize God. Pure white symbolizes God. Finally, surrounding Jesus are Moses and Elijah, the great heroes of the religious tradition. During Lent the Church encourages us and reinforces our faith, as Jesus strengthened the faith of the Apostles who stood trembling and in dismay before the divine sight manifested on the mountain. Of course, it is a story of God s power and supremacy. Also, however, it is a revelation of God s plan of salvation. Jesus had come into the world, as a human as well as Son of God, to reconcile sinners with God, God with sinners. Yet, Jesus did not drag anyone kicking and screaming into the kingdom. We all must enter the kingdom willingly. But God supports us and guides us. He gives us the revealed word in Second Timothy and in all the Scriptures. Thank you for accompanying me on my journey. Together we move on following the Lord to Jerusalem. As we go on our journey, let us be charitable to one another. Don t forget your rice bowls as a reminder of our call to charity. Fr. March 16 at St. Mary, Presque Isle at 6:00 PM. Fasting from meat on Fridays during Lent helps us acquire a mastery over our instincts and freedom of heart. (CCC 2043). Fasting is meant to free us. It helps us feel our physical hunger, and in turn, our spiritual hunger for the infinite love found only in God. FAITH FORMATION & YOUTH MINISTRY CHRISTIAN LIFE CENTER: Fr. James Plourde will be offering a spiritual reflection on the Creed at the Christian Life Center during the Lenten Season. The reflection sessions will be held on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. and repeated on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. There will be three reflection sessions on Wednesday, February 21, 28 and March 7. You are welcome to attend any one of the sessions or all three. These reflections sessions can be attended via teleconference in Caribou and Houlton. Join us for a Spaghetti Dinner at Holy Rosary Church on Saturday, March 3 rd from 5:00 to 7:00 with all proceeds to benefit the Alter Project. Our meal will consist of spaghetti, roll, salad, beverage and dessert for $7.00 a plate or $20.00 for a family. Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowls Join our faith community- and nearly 14,000 Catholic communities across the United States- in a life-changing Lenten journey of encounter with CRS Rice Bowl. Pick up your family s CRS Rice Bowl located at your church entrance. During the 40 days of Lent, as companions on the journey, we will encounter our neighbor. (Don t forget to try the recipes found in each bowl!) H.O.P.E. ~ SOCIAL JUSTICE & PEACE Thank you to everyone that generously donated to Souper Bowl weekend. Because God has given himself for me, I respond by giving myself to him in every way that I can. It is not that I owe him anything, or that he needs in a particular way anything that I have. It is simply that I, in sheer gratitude for his many gifts I want to return these gifts, in someway, by giving of my time, talent and treasure. We as Catholics have been given the greatest gift ever.
