His sons and his partners, James and John, suddenly left their post and followed Jesus. So there he stood in the boat with a crew of employees, but not one of his sons. We can't help but wonder whether Zebedee was in favor of this promise that his heirs would become "fishers of men." Most likely, this event was the cause of some familial tension. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus instructs us to love and serve others for the love of God. But the Lord also makes it clear that our devotion to him is meant to trump our devotion to anything-or anyone-else. For our part, we are called to allow this divine allegiance to exist in those we love, even when it means a sacrifice for us as well. Parents for example, like Zebedee, are called to encourage their children to follow the Lord's call. A son or daughter's vocation to religious life certainly exemplifies this kind of sacrifice for a parent who might have had a different plan in mind. But in truth every son and daughter has a vocation from God and parents have the opportunity to support and assist their children as they seek to hear and follow God's special plan for their lives. We don't know for sure how Zebedee responded to the vocation of his sons, but we know that James and John were counted among the Twelve Apostles and that their devotion and dedication helped to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Regardless of what he might have thought as he stood in that boat, we can be quite sure that looking back now, Zebedee can rejoice heartily in the choice of his sons to leave their nets and follow Christ. LENT Begins Feb. 14th Over 80 parishioners participated in Small Faith Sharing Groups during Advent. Several are continuing to meet. Word Among Us: The parish will no longer be offering the Word Among Us as a freebie. If you would like to continue receiving this at the discounted price of $20 a year- compared to $ please call St. Mary s rectory and ask for your name and contact number to be added to the list. Presque Isle Daughters of Isabella will be marking the anniversary of Roe v. Wade on January 21 at noon at St. Mary s in Presque Isle. We will ring the bell marking the unborn lives lost and then say a rosary together. Line-Up For Life ~ Jan. 21st The Pregnancy Care Center of Aroostook will sponsor a Line-up For Life event at 2 PM Sunday, Jan. 21st in front of the Northeastland Hotel on Main St. in Presque Isle. Signs can be picked up inside the hotel. Please join our efforts to call attention to the millions of unborn lives lost to abortion. H.O.P.E. ~ SOCIAL JUSTICE & PEACE H.O.P.E. Meeting Jan. 23 at 4 PM The Jan. 13th meeting for H.O.P.E. was cancelled due to a snow storm. The meeting is rescheduled for Tues., Jan. 23rd at 4 PM in the Parish Center. FAITH FORMATION & YOUTH MINISTRY Third Trimester! MAKING DISCIPLES OF ALL CHILDREN FUNDRAISER Estimated Due Date middle of March 2018! The Parish of the Precious Blood Youth Ministry Build a Child Fundraiser was born was to help spread God s Good News by investing in the youth of our parish. This fundraiser is growing funds in order to send teens to such events as E.P.I.C. (Empowering Young People in Christ!), LEAD (Leadership Evangelization and Discipleship), Steubenville Conferences, and World Youth Day where they can encounter Christ in a personal way, spend time with other Catholic teens, and to come back to our Parish with new knowledge of their faith and ability to spread the Good News with their communities. You have a wonderful opportunity to assist in and nurture their spiritual journey. This fundraiser grows for nine months, so you have time to think about which part of the child you might like to sponsor, pray about it and save for it. We are currently in the third trimester of this nine month fundraiser. See donation amounts and payment forms in the back of the church or by contacting the Parish Office at Thank you. WORSHIP & SPIRITUALITY *Daily Mass at Holy Rosary is held in the Parish Center during the Winter months. Altar Server Training - Jan. 21st A Refresher/Training & Reverence Class will be held from 2-5 PM, Sunday, Jan. 21st hosted by St. Denis Church in Fort Fairfield. A light meal will be served at 4 PM. This class is extended to all Altar Servers (adults and children), current Extraordinary Ministers, and those who wish to become Extraordinary Ministers. This is a mandatory class within the Parish of the Precious Blood. PARENTS (at least one guardian) MUST attend this training with their Altar Server. Children under the age of 10 should not attend this meeting unless they are current Altar Servers. Children over the age of 10 who are considering becoming Altar Servers may attend with one of their parents/guardians.
