The first and second readings are bold and victorious. We see Christ coming on the clouds for the final judgment of heaven and earth. The Gospel sets a very different tone. Jesus is under arrest and facing death before Pontius Pilate. We know how this story will end. So if Christ is King, what does it mean? Is he a glorious conqueror or a suffering servant? "My kingdom does not belong to this world." Here is the heart of Jesus' reign. He is a king -- and his "subjects" are alive and well on earth -- but, ultimately, Jesus' kingdom transcends our earthly concepts of power. Jesus faced down the temptation of a solely earthly kingship. At the close of his 40 days in the desert, the devil offered him the kingdoms of the world. Jesus only had to sacrifice his heavenly values and worship Satan. The same temptations to distort the kingship of Christ are present to us today. Jesus' invitation also endures. "Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." It is important for us to belong to the full truth of Christ's kingdom. First, our own hearts must be transformed. Our own rebellions in favor of selfishness and against holiness must be conquered by God's grace. Second, we must work to transform the world as best we can in our own corner of it. Like Jesus shows us by his life and death, this doesn't mean domination. It means service, sacrifice, respect, and love. Our lives must "testify to the truth" of Jesus Christ, who lays down his life for his people. That is the true beauty of Christ the King! Liturgical Publications Inc.

4 4 Beard a Bro Challenge The PPB Youth Ministry program is having a beard challenge for the month of November. The PPB Youth Ministry program is raising funds that will go towards retreats (such as Journey), March for Life, and local youth events. What better way to bring attention to than to grow a beard! When folks ask you why are letting your whiskers gets long, you can tell them all about our youth and how you are helping bring them closer to Christ. Yes, it s true. by not shaving you are leading others closer to Christ. The options are endless. You could sport a goatee or a spade shaped beard. Perhaps you are more the Abe Lincoln beard type or how about Moses? It s up to you. Challenge your soon to be bearded friend wisely. Here is how it works: YOUTH MINISTRY $5 to challenge a friend for a weeks worth of whiskers $10 with give you two weeks $20 ups the growth to three weeks $40 for 30 days worth lot of luscious locks. If you like the clean shaven look we have an added bonus. For just $15 you can get beard insurance. $15 beard insurance (assures you will not be challenged) Challenge forms will be available after Mass at St. Mary s, Holy Rosary and St. Louis or contact theresa.bonner@portlanddiocese.org. Mission Diaper Brigade CHURCH & FAMILY LIFE COMMISSION ADVENT FAITH SHARING GROUPS Advent is a solemn season of reflection and preparation for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ into our hearts and homes at Christmas. If you would like to participate in a Faith Sharing Group during the Advent season please call the rectory to register at There are several groups meeting throughout the Parish. Materials are based on the scripture readings for the coming Sunday. THE GIVING TREE is up at the front/side entrance to the Church, it is decorated with gift tags. Please take a tag, purchase a gift and return it wrapped with tag attached no later than Friday, December 14th. The gifts will be distributed with good baskets. Daughters of Isabella of Caribou Discount cards will be sold the weekends of 11/24/25 and 12/1 and 12/2 at the weekend Masses. This is to benefit the parish fuel fund. The gift that keeps on giving every day of the year as they can be used daily at the eighteen vendors on the card. The Caribou Choral Society presents its 42 nd annual Christmas Concerts REJOICE & SING Sunday, Dec. 2, 3:00 at St. Girard s Church in Grand Isle. FOLLOWERS OF THE CROSS Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Parish Center in Caribou is the monthly meeting of the Followers of the Cross, a program of spiritual and social activities, including Rosary, Confessions and Saturday Mass at 10:15 a.m., followed by refreshments and a social get together. Everyone is invited, especially those who are home-bound, sick and suffering and/or physically or mentally challenged. DID YOU KNOW? The Mass Is The Same Sacrifice As Calvary The biggest mistake that many Catholics make is treating the Holy Mass as just another church service, similar to those held by other religions. In the Mass, Christ s Sacrifice on the Cross is made present, its memory is celebrated and its saving power is applied. The Council of Trent teaches that Christ left a visible sacrifice to His Church in which that bloody sacrifice which was once offered on the Cross should be made present, its memory preserved to the end of the world, and its salvation-bringing power applied to the forgiveness of the sins which are daily committed by us. When we attend Mass, we are mystically transported to Calvary, where we can unite ourselves with the Lord s Sacrifice to the Father!
