2 Sixth Sunday of Easter It often seems that the more schooling we have the less able we are to handle ambiguity of Christian living. The logic of scientific thought encourages us to focus upon one concept at a time. The poetic language of the scriptures leads us to hold in a healthy tension concept which, at first glance, seem mutually contradictory. God calls us to a way of life which makes demands, yet God s ways frequently seems to contravene the way we have taken. This was certainly Peter s experience. Peter thought that only those born in Israel could come to Christ, but the manifestation of the Spirit s gift in the life of the Gentile Cornelius shattered all his comfortable notions. Christ s resurrection shattered all notions of how God might work among us. It destroyed all barriers which might hedge in the possibilities of God s power working in human history. Christ s victory showed forth the power of love: God s love which could draw forth from death the servant who had gone to death in obedience to love. For the makers of greeting cards love might be sentimental and soft. For Christians, love is strong and as real as the demands made by friends who are willing to die that the other might live. That gives greater cause for singing alleluias than do fuzzy fantasies about some sort of love which can be reduced to pastel holy cards. REQUIESCAT IN PACE Ms. Leina Dinkel, who was the Parish Secretary at Saint Therese for 24 years passed away on April 10, A memorial Mass was held on Monday, April 16 at 12 noon here at The Shrine of the Little Flower. She will be missed by many for her kindness and generosity. Leina, from your new home in Heaven, watch over your St. Therese family. How very softly you tiptoed into our world, almost silently, only a moment you stayed. But what an imprint your footsteps have left upon our hearts. Rest in Peace, Leina St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVdP) SVdP is a person-to-person ministry supported through the financial donations of our parishioners. We visit the homes of our parishioners and to those who live within our parish boundaries offering spiritual aid and temporary financial assistance. Most people are reluctant to ask for help. If you are, or know of someone who is experiencing a sudden loss of income due to illness, death, job-loss or any other lifechanging event, please call, or encourage them to call the SVdP Clearinghouse at Home visits will be scheduled accordingly. SVdP also sponsors food distribution to those in need at the St. Therese School Gym on the third Monday of every month at approximately 9:00 a.m. If you would like to become involved in this rewarding ministry, please call the St. Therese Parish Office at , leave your name and telephone number, and we will schedule a time to discuss more about SVdP with you.
