St. Therese of Lisieux LITURGY CORNER Receiving Holy Eucharist is a privilege we should never take for granted or take lightly. In the Catholic, we are able to receive every day and should receive every Sunday and Holy Day. To receive Our Lord in Holy Communion, several conditions must exist. One is our having prepared for and received our First Holy Communion. Secondly, we must have fasted at least one hour before receiving (only water or medication other drinks, food, gum, or even cigarettes within that hour breaks our fast). Thirdly, we must be in a state of Grace. So what does being in a state of Grace mean? Being in a state of Grace means not having committed any mortal sin and, if so, having gone to Confession and receiving Absolution for that sin. A mortal sin (CCC ) destroys charity in the heart of man by a grave violation of God s law; it turns man away from God, who is his ultimate end and his beatitude, by preferring an inferior good to Him. Mortal sin attacks in us charity or love. We in essence turn our back on God. To be mortal three conditions must be met: Mortal sin is sin whose object is grave matter and which is also committed with full knowledge and deliberate consent. In other words, it is a serious sin, we know it is a sin, and we do it anyway. For example, in His Commandments, God tells us to keep Sunday Holy, meaning to attend Holy. We know this; we know missing is a serious or grave sin; we decide not to go. Hence, the next time we attend we must first go to Confession before receiving the Eucharist. This extends, of course, to all of the Commandments of God. Have a good week in the Lord, Gay Snell Vocations Chalice Praying for vocations is the most powerful way to support vocations. A vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift from God that is nurtured in prayer. When we pray for vocations, we lift up to our Father those men and women whom He is calling to follow Him in a very special way. This is a great way to pray together as a family. St. Vincent de Paul helped develop a precursor to our modern day Seminaries. He and his community have directed as many as 53 Seminaries. There are nearly 4,000 members and priests in 86 countries. In addition to his order of priests, St. Vincent co-founded the Daughters of Charity along with St. Louise de Marillac. St. Vincent was 80 years old when he died in Paris on September 29, St. Vincent is sometimes referred to as The Apostle of Charity and The Father of the Poor. We would like to thank the parishioners for their Generous support through either monetary, food or in-kind services. We are currently seeking someone who is willing to serve as our Thrift Store Manager. We are also seeking people who are willing to make home visits. The home visit team consists of a male and female that can visit the clients in their own home and make the determination whether we are able to help them. All are welcome! We need a volunteer to co-facilitate the Gabriel Project Parenting Class Program. We also need volunteers on Thursday afternoons to help with meal preparation and childcare. We help anyone who is pregnant and young families who are in need of baby equipment throughout Valencia County. We are in need of diapers sizes 2, 3, 4, & 5 and baby wipes. A Call for Artists - The Norbertine Community of Santa Maria de la Vid Abbey (5825 Coors Blvd. SW, Albuquerque, NM, 87121) hosts Art at the Abbey s Puentes de Compasión: Reaching For Hope, an exhibit of works from artists and members of our community reflecting encounters as bridges, built on foundations of compassion, openness, and love, connecting us as we move forward together in hope. The art exhibition will run from November 17 December 20. We invite artists of all religious and spiritual backgrounds, from and representing multiple generations, to create and submit works which reflect personal interpretations and experiences that contribute to the dignity of the theme, Puentes de Compasión: Reaching For Hope.
