3 FAITH FORMATION FOR ADULTS, YOUTH & CHILDREN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION OFFICE: OFFICE HOURS: MONDAY : 1 PM TO 3PM TUESDAY : 1 PM TO 5 PM WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY: 9 AM TO 5 PM CLOSED ON FRIDAYS The home is the first school of Christian life and a school for human enrichment. Here one learns endurance and the joy of work, fraternal love, generous even repeated forgiveness, and above all divine worship in prayer and the offering of one s life (CCC, 1657). Classes will not meet this week in observance of the Columbus Day holiday and Los Lunas Schools fall break. Year I Confirmation classes have a mandatory Pro- Life Day event on Saturday October 13 th from 9am to 11:30. Students must be accompanied by one parent/ guardian. The Parish and Religious Education Office will be closed on Monday, October 8 th in observance of Columbus Day! We will re-open on Tuesday, October 9 th at 9:00 a.m. LITURGY CORNER October is the month of the Holy Rosary. Holy is the greatest prayer with the Rosary being second. The Rosary, also called crown of roses, is a prayerful reflection on the life of Jesus, which involves contemplating certain Gospel scenes, the mysteries, in the company of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To recite the Rosary is nothing other than to contemplate with Mary the face of Christ. (Saint Pope John Paul II) The Rosary beads were used for centuries to keep track of the Psalms and other prayers. At the end of the 12 th century, the Rosary beads were adopted to ensure easier and more attentive recitation. In other words, by having the Rosary beads to keep track of our prayers, we are less distracted and can become more contemplative. The insertion of the mysteries into the recitation of the Rosary followed soon after the use of the Rosary beads came into practice. Saint Dominic and his friars are credited with spreading the praying of the Rosary. At both Lourdes and Fatima the Blessed Virgin Mary encouraged people to pray the Rosary. The Rosary is made up of 20 significant events or moments in the life of Jesus and Mary. They are grouped into four series. The Joyful Mysteries, the Mysteries of Light, the Sorrowful Mysteries, and the Glorious Mysteries. Have a good week in the Risen Lord, Gay Snell Have a great three-day weekend!

Dakin This presentation provides the audience with a complete clarification and reflection for the history and practical benefits of praying the Holy Rosary. Many propositions and informational concepts are provided by the speakers from their personal experiences. If you are able to help with these items, you can drop them off at the Parish Office during business hours. Vocations Chalice Praying for vocations is the most powerful way to support vocations. A vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift from God that is nurtured in prayer. When we pray for vocations, we lift up to our Father those men and women whom He is calling to follow Him in a very special way. This is a great way to pray together as a family. We meet almost every Sunday from 6:45 8:30 PM in the. All teens are welcome to join us. 7 San Clemente Parish began Phase II of the building campaign for a new parish hall, classrooms, office space, auditorium and an Adoration Chapel in April of 2018 and the parish would like to report that as of September 30, 2018, Phase II has 429 donors to the campaign with a total of $511, pledged and $120, paid in the last six months. The parishioners of San Clemente Parish are a generous community and we wish to thank everyone for their dedication to this important project. Everyone must be patient and remember this is a long term fundraising goal. Please pray for the success of the project. FIVE FACTS ABOUT THE LIFE of St. Vincent de Paul St. Vincent de Paul spent the first 20 years of his life seeking fame and wealth. St. Vincent was born to a peasant family in His family thought that becoming a priest would bring fame and fortune to his family. He became a priest at the age of 19. St. Vincent de Paul was captured by pirates. Vincent was returning home by boat and was captured by pirates and was made a slave where he remained for two years. While a slave he prayed to God, telling Him that if his life would be spared and he was freed, he would devote the rest of his life to the service of the poor. St. Vincent de Paul was a community organizer. After his release, Vincent served in a church in rural France. The poverty in the area was overwhelming as people could not find work to buy food and consequently die of starvation. He organized the community to go out seeking furniture, food and clothing from the wealthy to help the poor. St. Vincent de Paul was a legend in his own time. As time went by, Vincent realized the mistakes of his young life, especially his focus on wealth and fame. After this realization, he founded an order of priests, the Vincentians, who would devote their lives to serving the poor. Later, along with Louise de Marillac, he founded the Sisters of Charity. St. Vincent de Paul did not found the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was not founded until more than 150 years after St. Vincent s death. Frederic Ozanam founded the Society and named it after St. Vincent de Paul.
