They are simple phrases. They sound Christian-like something you might find in the Bible. We've all heard these words. Maybe we've said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways.join us in searching for the whole truth by comparing common Christian clichés to the message and ministry of Jesus. 2 Honoring our Neighbor s Faith A Lutheran Perspective on Faith Traditions in America 32 Week Adult Forum Continues Hundreds of Christian denominations and dozens of non-christian traditions have followers in the United States. How do we view this wide variety of beliefs and practices? How does the Lutheran tradition compare with others? Honoring Our Neighbor s Faith deals with these questions by deepening our understanding of various faith traditions - as well as our own - making it a valuable resource for group study or personal exploration. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Adult Forum normally meets Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in the Resource Center but will take a hiatus during the month of July. Classes will resume August Have a question? Wonder about something? Want to stump the pastor? Enjoy campfires and time with friends (new and old)? Join Pastor Nate for What's 1.1.1? ONE Hour, ONE Question, ONE Drink. Bring one drink to Pastor Nate's home (428 Turnberry Dr.) along with one question of faith/church/god/life and join in conversation for one hour on Wednesday, July 13 at 7 pm Youth Group Late Night Snacks Youth Group members are invited to meet at the church at 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 7 for a trip to Over the Top in Pleasant Hill. Bring money to buy snacks. With parents permission, kids will be dropped off at home when we return. OWLs Luncheon All Older and/or Wiser Lutherans are invited to meet for lunch a Dutch Treat Lunch at Old West on Fleur on Friday, July 15 at 11:30 a.m. Cubs Baseball On Sunday July 17, the Youth Group has plans to attend an Iowa Cubs ball game. All youth are invited - bring money for snacks. Please RSVP to Pastor Nate or Lance Taylor by July 15. We ll meet at church. The game starts at 1:05 p.m. Girlfriends in God Social Event The Girlfriends in God group is planning a social outing to the Valley Junction Farmers Market Thursday, July 21. Meet at the church at 5:30 p.m. to carpool. GIG meets in the north basement of the church every 2nd & 4th Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for Bible Study. 3 Pub Theology You are invited to meet with members of Norwalk Christian Church to discuss the question of Life Long Spirituality? at 804 Main at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 7. No experience or prior study needed. FootGolf Ready for a little fun and friendly competition? Come out to Warrior Run Golf Course on Wednesday, July 27 at 7 p.m. and join your fellow NewLifers for an evening of Footgolf. Everyone is welcome! Church Council Meeting The NLLC Council will meet on Sunday, July 24 from 3-4:30 p.m. followed by a family picnic at Ed and Diane Kuhls home (9301 Happy Hollow Drive) at 5 p.m. Executive Committee will meet on Tuesday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m. Celebration of Baptismal Anniversaries & Welcome New Members On July 28 we will celebrate Baptismal Anniversaries of those baptized in July and welcome into membership anyone who has expressed interest in joining New Life. If you've been visiting for a while and would like to become a member of New Life, please speak with Pastor Nate or contact the church office. Thank You!! Thanks to Robin Knerr for his hard work and carpentry skills in removing a portion of the wall to expand the nursery and to Emily Blom for her efforts in painting and decorating. Our Nursery looks awesome and is a much more pleasant environment for the kids as well as the volunteers! Building Evaluation On Wednesday, July 6 members of our Executive Committee and Council will meet with a consultant from Mission Investment Fund to evaluate our church building in relationship to our growth and future needs. 1 Service 1 Month 1 God Sundays in July Worship at 9:30 3

4 Thanks for a Great VBS! Cave Quest Vacation Bible School was totally awesome! Everyone had a wonderful time learning about Following Jesus the Light of the World. The kids will be sharing some of the great songs they learned at worship on Sunday, July 3. Thanks to all the volunteers for their hard work in making this year's VBS a fantastic success! July Campers The following young people will be attending Riverside Bible Camp in July: Grant Fletcher July 17-22, Gracie Geist & Darian Sleeth July and Brooke Kimball July 31 - August 5. If you know of anyone who will be attending camp this summer, let us know the dates so we can lift them in our prayers while they are gone. Join us Sunday, July 3 following worship for a time of fellowship and celebration of Pastor Nate s 10th Anniversary of Ordination. Pastor Nate was ordained at Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookfield, WI on June 24, From Conflict to Communion Lutheran-Catholic Common Commemoration of the Reformation in 2017 You are invited to St John the Apostle Catholic Church on Sunday, July 31 at 11:15 a.m. to join our Catholic friends to celebrate our oneness in Christ and share the many things we have in common. Pastor Nate and Father John Ludwig have been working with a group of other pastors and church leaders in preparation for what is a pretty big deal in the life of the church: the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. What will follow these beginning conversations is a year-long intentional relationship between local catholic and lutheran parishes in the Des Moines Area. This fall, we ll gather at St. Ambrose Cathedral for a worship service and later in the fall of 2017, we ll gather again at St. John s Lutheran Church. More information about these two worship events will be coming later. Our Norwalk gathering on Sunday, July 31 at 11:15 a.m. is meant to bring the conversation to the local level. We hope that in meeting for an hour or so we can plant some further seeds to bring about the unity that we believe Christ himself wants for us.
