It has been so good to work closely with volunteers, parishioners, and team members, representing people from all across the church. Your heart for worship and your reverence for the Scriptures is obvious to my family and I as new folks at the church. We are expecting this to be a new season of fruitful growth, powerful responses to the Word of God, and reaffirmed commitments as a disciple of Jesus Christ. We have our work cut out for us in the next several months as we prepare our hearts for transition and change in I want to ask you to take part in a season of prayer and renewal over the next three months. Would you consider attending several Sunday nights of teaching and prayer, followed by a Prayer and Renewal retreat on January 11 th and 12 th? The details are listed below for your review. During this sacred season of prayer we, as the people of God, will engage in vibrant worship and renewal, godly leadership, and in becoming a redeemed community. Our leadership teams are praying Paul s prayer in Ephesians 1:17-19a for you, praying: 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. The four sessions are Sunday evenings from 6:30-8:00 PM, on October 28 following Trunk-Or-Treat, November 11, and December 9th and 30th. The renewal retreat is Friday, January 11, from 6:30-8:30 PM, and Saturday, January 12, from 8:30-3:30 PM. May God s blessings be with you and your families, Pastor Joel

3 Page 3 Issue 256 N OVEMBER EVENTS Annual Church Conference Our Annual Church Conference will be held on Sunday, November 4 at 4:00 p.m. at Epworth UMC (4855 Central Ave.) This annual meeting is held to review and evaluate the total mission and ministry of the church and to receive and approve annual reports. Everyone is welcome to attend. Only members can vote. All Saints Sunday Sunday, November 4 during the morning service we will be remembering those persons who have passed away in the last year. If you would like to have the name of a loved one read during the worship services as a remembrance, please submit their name, a picture and their relationship to you by at office@cotcumc.com by Wednesday, Oct. 31. This series of four prayer and teaching sessions will culminate in a weekend Prayer and Renewal Retreat in January. The four sessions are Sunday evenings from 6:30-8:00 PM, on October 28 following Trunk-Or-Treat, November 11, and December 9th and 30th. The renewal retreat is Friday, January 11, from 6:30-8:30 PM, and Saturday, January 12, from 8:30-3:30 PM. Hope to see you there. Cash donations accepted for Thanksgiving turkeys also. Bring your donations to the church and place in the basket by the Adult Ministry Corner.

4 Page 4 Issue 256 CREATION MEETING - ECHOES OF THE JURASSIC! Echoes of the Jurassic! Creation Meeting: Monday Creation Meeting: Monday evening November 26 at 7 PM in the Gathering Area. Have you heard of the discovery of dinosaur soft tissue? It is true! In 2005, Dr. Mary Schweitzer and her research team reported one of the greatest paleontological discoveries in history. The scientific community was stunned, and many argued that it is not possible for there to still be soft and pliable tissue remaining in dinosaur bones. They claimed it was contamination or bacterial biofilm merely mimicking soft tissue. However, during the last decade discoveries have continued, and the evidence clearly demonstrates that this is original dinosaur tissue. See the evidence for yourself in this powerful DVD presentation and understand why this is such a challenge to the evolutionary dogma. Giving praise and thanks for God s work in son and daughter-in-law s lives. Praises to the Lord God who sustains me. Praise and thanks to God for saving our daughter during a health crisis. Praises for God service. Daughter arrived safely on site for medical mission trip. Continued praises for God s guidance and prayers answered. Husband is more settled now in new living situation. Daughter and son-in-law of a grant for paying off medical school loans. Praise that daughter-in-law got a job. Praise and thanks for His blessings to me over the past years. C ONGREGATIONAL NOTES 55 & Over Luncheon The November 55 & Over Luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 21 at Longhorn Restaurant (459 Dussel Rd.). Sign up at the Adult Ministry Corner or on the Connections Card. Crossfire Deadline The deadline for the December Crossfire is November 15. Please submit articles via at office@cotcumc.com or drop them off at the church office. Thank you for meeting this deadline. Ugly Quilts Ugly Quilts for October will be on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 10:00-2:00. A light lunch will be provided. Please contact Dolly Ryan at if you are able to attend and for any questions. Congratulations to Kim Huber and James Beauregard who were united in marriage on Saturday, September 29 at Heatherdowns Country Club. Pastor Keith Luke officiated the ceremony.
