Today is the First Sunday of Advent. We begin now to prepare spiritually for the blessed event we call Christmas. Let us engage in sincere worship and vow to walk daily with God. Poinsettias for the church during the Christmas season may be purchased in honor/memory of loved ones to the congregation. We will have 16 white ones available and 2 larger red ones. They can be purchased for $10 and $12 respectively to be picked up after the Christmas morning service. Persons interested in purchasing can see members of the visual focus committee: Farrah Koogler, Dorothy Shenk, Rachael Harnish, Roy & Phyllis Early. Bake it up! Talk it up! It's that time of the year again for Weavers' Walk through Bethlehem event. You know what that means don't you? That's right, cookies are needed! Four to six for each of the guests attending the event. So, start baking, freezing and planning for this valuable community outreach! The event will be Dec. 17th & 18th. -- The Cookie Monster Rehab Services from Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg will be holding a "Lunch & Learn" event as part of "Older Driver Safety Awareness Week" (December 5-9, 2011). This event will take place in the Cecil Gilkerson Community Activities Center in Harrisonburg (Westover Park) and is open to seniors and their

3 3 of 5 12/2/2011 6:01 PM families in the community. We will meet from 12-1:00 each day during the week to discuss different issues facing older drivers (see list of topics below). Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch and take part in the conversation. In the last half-century, a growing number of North Americans have been inspired by an Anabaptist-Mennonite vision of church and mission. Often coming from outside the Mennonite mainstream, they've formed communities with others of like mind and sought to live out their radical faith. But in the process, they often bump up against the institutional church that has housed the radical vision for generations. The stories and reflections offered in Widening the Circle explore that creative tension. The result is a rich showcase of Jesus-centered discipleship-windows into what the future church can look like. The upcoming EMU theater production, "J.B.," will open on Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m. Additional performances are Dec. 3, 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m., and Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. All shows are in Lee E. MennoMedia, formed last July as a merger, is a ministry of Mennonite Church USA and Mennonite Church Canada. On Saturday December 3rd from 5-7 pm Broadway High School's World Language Honor Society will be hosting their 9th Annual International Dinner for the community. 100% of the profits will be donated to Heifer International. Heifer internationals mission is to end hunger and poverty in the world. Their strategy is to pass on the gift. They start by giving an animal to a family and once it reproduces they share with another family. The dinner tickets are 5 dollars per person. It is an all you can eat buffet. Tickets are sold at the door or see Jessica Hiter or Joy Showalter to get a presale ticket so you don't have to wait in line. Thanks for the support! EMU's Shenandoah Valley Children's Choir will hold its annual Christmas concert on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m., in Lehman Auditorium. Serving excellent food from 5 to 8pm. 25% of proceeds go to help La Gonave, a community in Haiti, where folks usually eat one plate of rice every other day. 3) Purchase hand-crafted boxwood wreaths for your front door that have been created at Our Community Place. Large for $30; small for $20. Part-time job opening at Gift & Thrift: Available immediately - part time furniture supervisor. Applicants must be able to move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, drive the company box truck and perform tasks associated with loading and unloading. This is a book for those who take their faith, Scripture, and 21st-century science seriously. It is a theological discussion of human sexuality and the image of God.
