6 NOTES Throughout Lent, we will pray The Lord's Prayer as part of confession and assurance. Each of the five Sundays of Lent, we will pray a different version. In praying a variety of translations, notice what comforts, annoys, disturbs, and motivates. - Worship Committee Wednesdays in Lent: Since God is a "We" God, calling us into community, to do life together, the sermon is a we venture as well. Wednesdays during Lent, you are invited to join me at the Peace House from 8:30-9:30 am to explore the passage for coming Sunday. Wednesday, April 5 is Luke 19: In our conversation, we'll: listen for God's invitation, love, and challenge through the words/stories of the scriptures. ask questions of the text including what do see, hear, taste, feel, and smell. consider how the text could connect to our lives. Please let me know if you have questions. Join the conversation once or every week. In the faith of Anabaptist that scripture is accessible to all of us, no experience or scholarship is necessary, only a willing spirit and open heart. You have those covered! There is no right or wrong. - Renee Kanagy Has anyone else, like me, found that their faith/religion has evolved and been deconstructed over time and is now sitting with all the pieces, unsure of what to do with what is left (or even what pieces are really still worth holding on to)? Out of conversation with Renee, we decided to read the book Out of Sorts: Making Peace with an Evolving Faith, by Sarah Bessey. Neither of us has read it yet, but we decided to read it together and go from there. Does anyone want to join us - starting with some sort of conversation about the book? She picked up a few copies in case anyone wants one. Really - I'm not sure how this will unfold but I'd like to see who wants to join and then decide how to proceed. - Kristen L Have you signed up for the Annual CMF Easter Brunch yet? Please check the foyer for the sign-up sheet we still have lots of openings! Meal Planning asks that all items be brought baked, assembled, and ready to serve. They also noted that the CMF kitchen will not be available for food prep or assembly on Sunday morning. Thank you! 6

7 Did you know that CMF has a group subscription to The Mennonite? If you d like to start a subscription and get the group discount price of $37 for the year, let Violet know in the office as soon as possible and she will add you to the church s list. She has a brief window of opportunity to add new members; it s renewal time! Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center is hosting an open potluck "Revolution of Values Potluck." Tuesday, April 4 6:30-8pm at 215 E 14th St, Cincinnati. On April 4th, 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King gave an impassioned speech before a crowd on the steps of Riverside Church in New York City condemning the atrocity of the Vietnam War. He called for people to be obstinate in the face of the evils of warfare, and said that, We as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. We must rapidly begin the shift from a thing-oriented society to a person-oriented society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered. It has become grossly apparent today that these inhuman triplets of despair have shown their stubborn implantation within the very fabric of our society. To honor Dr. King s charge to help our society embark on a revolution of values, IJPC will host a potluck to reflect on Dr. King s speech. There is no better way to foster discussion, invite open-mindedness, and bring about awareness than by engaging in humanity s oldest expression of good fellowship: a meal. IJPC invites you and your friends to join us to listen to excerpts of Dr. King s speech, discuss its meanings and the pertinence it has within our society, while enjoying a community potluck. FAITH TALK Matthew 26:1 5, 14 30: The Last Supper Here are some ways to nurture faith at home based on this week s story. (1) Read Matthew 26: What did Jesus offer to the disciples to symbolize his body and blood? (2) Silently tell God things you are sorry for. Receive God s loving forgiveness by saying to each other, God loves and forgives you. (3) Eat pita bread and drink grape juice to remember Jesus last supper. Add hummus or falafel and plain yogurt. Did you know? What Jewish festival did Jesus celebrate at the Last Supper? (Passover) Prayer for the week: Thank you, God that you forgive us no matter what we do. We rest in your love. Amen. 8 PRAYERS FOR FAITH AND LEARNING Please pray as our students as they continue their studies at every level of education..prayers FOR THE MENNONITE MISSION NETWORK Ministries among refugees are a significant part of Mennonite Mission Network s engagement in Australia, Turkey, the United States, Southeast Asia, and Western Europe. Pray for peace in the world, safe places for all people, and that mission workers will continue to share Jesus love in culturally appropriate ways. Book Club will meet on Sunday, April 23 after church at the home of Joy and Jim M. The book to be discussed is "The Plot Against America" by Philip Roth. Please bring a dish to share.
